Cookie and Latte didn't think much of their dinner of egg and biscuit mix, vedgies and seed. I was getting worried about them so i put them back in the aviary. Barney, came straight up to them and fed them both!!! Colony breeding - I guess Barney is a potential dad too :hap:
  4. Thanks Tam :hap: When you are ready, if you let me know what colour or type you are interested in, i can try and breed one for you :hap: I will probably only be breeding one pair at a time so i will try for your chosen colours first in Spring
  5. Time for an update - I rang the R***A back last week to get some feedback on my complaint - they said that it had been acted upon but are not allowed to tell me any details (including the status of the sick bird :hap: ) Anyway with all the negative things i hear about the R***A i just expected that they were telling me what I wanted to hear. Anyways... GOOD News!!! I went into that shop again today and it has been completely cleaned up. Cages have been freshly cleaned and are actually spotless - Birds have been moved around into better (bigger) cages and everything is looking great :hap: - The sick bird was gone too - hopefully getting the treatment it needs. It seems the R***A here in SA are true to their word :hap:

Latte and Cookie are 5 weeks old and they both fledged yesterday. I have always put millet sprays in their nest box hoping to speed up the weaning process. Today i have them inside for their daily training and they are eating from the little seed dish i provide for them I watched them really closely and they are eating and not just playing with it. Is is possible for 5 week old chicks to be eating on their own enough to leave their parents??? They haven't really learnt to fly yet either - i normally leave babies with their parents until they are 6 - 7 weeks min. Should they stay out with their parents for a bit longer or is it okay for them to come inside if they are eating?
  10. He should have a violet Hue (tinge) around the neck/shoulder area if he is carrying the violet gene. I cant really tell in your photo if your boy has the hue or not - Violets are VERY Pretty - I have lots of them
  11. Some people say the sweetest things hahahaha
  12. She is very pretty I love YF opalines.... and with the added bonus of grey wing - WOW!!!.... Postage stamp on her please, or you can pop her in a Taxi and send her my way
  13. Your right sailorwolf. It's the other way around - Calcium can inhibit Iron absorption I have researched that consuming rust provides iron intake. My understanding is that birds should not have too much iron in their diet :budgiedance:
  14. Hello and welcome :budgiedance: Congratulations on your new budgie. Your fish sound really interesting too. We have a fantastic "off topic chatter" section where you can talk about anything that is not budgie :budgiedance: Would love to see pictures if you have any.
  15. Time for an update on BG's Bubs... Here is the now fledged Latte and Cookie These pictures show how big Cookie really is :budgiedance: And this look is why Cookie got the nickname of BOOF hahahaha Cookie has BG's length, so i am still sure he is Cookies dad :budgiedance: And the lil bub who is the last chick left in the box to fledge before all the boxes are removed - I think he is a boy
  16. Iron Metal will oxidize and rust, your birds could then ingest particles of iron which is toxic for birds. Iron will also prevent the obsorbsion of calcium which is vital for a birds health. Untreated wood (from non toxic trees) is always best
  17. They are lovely birds. Congratulations on your fantastic results
  18. What :hap: ? so they are available for sale? I have to get one :hap:
  19. You have lovely birds. I love your green opaline chick - VERY CUTE
  20. :hap:
  21. Awww They are lovely. I love chickens and the resident topknot pigeon hehehehe
  22. OH! WOW! That is really cool Deb!! Well done :yellowhead: You can make me one next - I need one for Scooter, Latte and Cookie hehehe :yellowhead:
  23. These are my last babies for a while... my aviary is full and because i am not actively selling any of my birds I need to take a break. I won't be colony breeding again either - one baby is left to come out of a box (Latte and Cookie's lil bro) and then all nest boxes are out :budgiedance: .
  24. thanks for that advice Neat So it's the boys that have the gene..... There is a yellow series bird there too... perhaps that one is a male. i saw so many birds yesterday that i can't remember. I hope to bring home one or two nice show types today hehehe - I tend to giggle at some things said here in relation to the 'male' budgies - some things really crack me up :budgiedance: - totally immature, but i can't help it... hehehehe
  25. Cookie (aka Boof hahaha) has also jumped out the box now!! - It's a really nice day here today so all the babies are coming out at once - That reminds me to update my fledgling post that I haven't touched in ages :budgiedance:
