  1. Great news!! I have really tame birds who still wont let me scratch their necks
  2. I have been a colony breeder for years. I am home a lot so i was there to nip any trouble in the bud - it was a lot of work and supervision. I am in the process of starting cabinet breeding instead so i can better select the pairs and have better babies
  3. Congrats on bub 3!! Looks to me that the egg pictured in the middle, will hatch soon

Try this link -----> Safe/toxic wood
  5. Fingers crossed you get it
  6. I can't personally see how a basic seed diet with lettuce could cause malnutrition. I know it's not idea, but Trill has added vitamins and shell gritt too. I used that brand for years, and i have only just changed off it because they are adding too many filler seeds (seeds that the budgies can't eat to add weight to the the mix ) seeing as you have already been to the vet, i would assume they have ruled out mites or skin infections. Some non medical reasons for feather plucking - Is he bored? Is he home by himself a lot? Is he really bonded to you and possibly frets when you leave the room? Perhaps it's an allergy?? You have 2 budgies, are they living in the same cage? Is there and social issues between them? Is it your other budgie doing the plucking??? Sorry to bombard you with options.... hope you find your answer soon. It is horrible when they start to pluck out their feathers
  7. One on the order list for Tam got any colour ideas?? :hap: Now that's an idea. If she could do that, I would put a bucket in the aviary and get her to teach the entire flock to go "potty" :hap: - We can dream hehe They are little characters! I love the way each budgie has their own personality and their own manerisims hehe
  8. As long as neither starts flying around I'll be happy to keep them in their little nest!No...they're not green - more brownish, and basically a little pile of mush. Occasionally a little more solid, and sometimes less so. You can also put them in an uptruned icecream container (with bedding) in the bottom of a cage to keep them contained when they get adventurous hehe
  9. You say his eyes are infected too... It really sounds like Psitticosis to me too. Why has the vet not diagnosed it as Psitticosis to be on the safe side???? If it is Psittacosis, he is highly contagious to you and your family. as MB said, dont breath in the dust from his feathers, touch poop, eye discharge, saliva or nasal discharge. two of the most common symptoms of Psitticosis in birds is infected eye/s and runny (green) poo. as well as the other symptoms of fluffed up appearance, nasal discharge, lethargy, etc etc. I would recommend continuing the antibiotics for the full Psittacosis treatment time. If you only do them for 10 days and it is Psitticosis, you risk getting a bacteria which could become resistant to the antibiotics.
  10. Awww they are lovely I feel they are too young to be leaving a nest and going into a cage. Keep them in their nest for another week or so. The runny poops can be a concern, but also could be the change in food. Are they bright green????
  11. although, I have to say i get heart broken when i see those, "As New, Only a few months old" Empty cages of budgies who suffered worse outcomes than being sold on ebay
  12. don't people read the rules!!! I reported that one before hehe. I find i report budgies for sale every week or so - People just dont get it
  13. Hello and welcome :hap: I have beautiful smoochy babies who love to be petted and adored. They were parent raised but I removed them from the aviary as soon as they fledged and let the parents finish raising them inside. that way i could handle them lots and they would get used to humans. I have not hand reared before, so i cant give you an opinion on that, but i have heard of a lot of love their hand reared budgies I think its one of those topics where its more about personal choice, rather than facts :hap:
  14. Awww!!! They love a bath don't they I hope you find your cable soon!!! I am really looking forward to seeing Molly
  15. Will do MB :hap: Latte has a sister who i plan to breed with next year. Lets hope that cleaning gene passes though hehe I will happily swap cleaning budgies with every member
  16. I have a hen who is spotless and tirelessly empties waste (and nesting material) out onto the cage floor. She is a brilliant mother Another hen of mine, is not clean at all. Poop gets stuck to the bubs and i constantly had to pick off all the muck and empty her box for her. Lazy little miss hehehe I think, just like us humans, birds have different parenting skills and values too
  17. I have a hen who tends to loose a tail feather at the end of a clutch. I take it as a cue that she needs a rest from breeding.
  18. Ah HA!!!! Now thats a thought. :hap:
  19. WOW look how they have grown!!!!! They look brilliant! stick a postage stamp on Frodo and flat pack him to cousin Liv please
  20. WOOO HOOOO!!! Congrats on your Egg
  21. I agree about the hole. I hope you get some fertile eggs soon. I don't breed this time of year... too cold for me, so i use the cold months to rest my birds ready for spring. Could the hen be having trouble keeping the eggs warm enough for them to develop????

You could improve the layout of this cage until you can get a new one. The 2 parralell perches i can see running from side to side, need to be turned so they run from front to back, and moved up into the wide (rounded) section. This simple change will give Lizzy lots more room
  23. I don't think she is eating it... yuk!! She has torn a hole in the corner of the paper and drops it down hehe
  24. Hehe! It is very funny to watch. :hap: as long as its not a cause for concern, then i will let her keep her house nice a clean
  25. Hello and welcome. Well done for taking on these two little cuties :hap: We love pictures too if you can post some sorry i cant give any advice. I have not hand reared any birds myself, but it sounds like everything is going well
