  7. Is it possible Adelaide university may be interested in being involved... I agree, not too many people would actively search for a pet that they know has an extremely short lifespan.Hi krosp darling, i am very interested in what various members might consider short a short lifespan, as i myself advance,,, Their days are numbered from the time they leave the box. As you know, Quilla started out great, but didn't cope well with weaning and was gone before he was 6 weeks old. The average age they live to is only 12 weeks old. Some have been known to make it to 2 years under exceptional care and with companionship with another. A friend of mine had one who lived for 2 years with a french moulter companion who would feed it it's every meal. When the FM died, the Duster died within a week

i have one the same... a male budgie who kisses up the boys and humps the wire etc. he is in a breeding cabinet with a hen at the moment and just looks at her like " Ummm I just ain't that into Chicks"
  9. I hope we dont get any more... thats for sure, but i know some trusted people who could give them the care they need if needed
  10. If we get any more in the future I will let others enjoy and care for them as i will run out of time too. Given the proper care and attention, these little guys make adorable pets.
  11. WOW!! Looks great!!!! Love all your trophies and prizes! B)
  12. Thats what i am doing macka
  13. I am looking forward to following this thread
  14. Thank you GB... what a beautiful post. As they are coming out of their baby cuteness, i am noticing they are very bonded to each other. They seem to really thrive on companionship. They lay on top of each other when sleeping, feed together and preen each other to the best of their ability. They also really love human contact. when i put them back in the cage after a play, they stand at the door calling out to me to play again. The main concern.. which is fairly minor really... is keeping their feathers looking lovely and silky. Because they live on the cage bottom, their feathers on their breast and in the mask are dull and a bit dirty. But their other feathers are silky and glossy, so its just from dirt and food rather than a dietary issue.
  15. Lut?? Really??? her eyes are black. i bought her from an auction last year as a Yellow DF spangle... but i guess they could be wrong. And if she is Lut, then the cock is split lut as they have two all yellow daughters.. Two of their daughters... A DF spangle hen?? An opaline spangle hen
  16. WOO!! bring on the photos :happy-dancing:
  17. These are his parents :happy-dancing:

I mean he is masking recessive pied Kaz... He is a full recessive pied that is being masked by the lutino gene. Same as they can mask opaline, cinnamon, spangle, dominant pied etc etc etc. when you get an albino, lutino you have no real idea of what genetics the bird has, other than the ino gene.
  19. I hope he recovers quickly... He is stunning!! I use pepper too! its brilliant!! I agree that near the eyes and nose would be rather irritating though *AA-AA-AAAHHHH-CHHEEOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW*.
  20. Thank you.. he is only very small though.. He's the runt of the clutch
  21. **Liv** replied to *libby*'s topic in General Discussions
then pair to a split recessive pied Otherwise some of the cocks will show the split to recessive spot on the head
  22. **Liv** replied to *libby*'s topic in General Discussions
Ino can mask all other varieties, so he might be masking something too. can you try breeding him to a normal hen and see what pops out in the cocks??

I wonder if he is a recessive pied under all that ino?? Parents could have been recessive pieds, or split to it.
  24. This little guy came from a DF spangle hen and an opaline spangle cock. I suspect that this chick is just badly suffused... but i just want to check. There are faint spangle markings on the wings. Do you agree he's a DF spangle??
