Budgie Farms
I have to agree and none of the members i know on here are budgie farmers either There is a pet shop about 15kms from my place which is always filled with FM budgies - has been for years. I can bet they come from a budgie farm as a caring breeder wouldn't breed FM budgies to excess like that.

Ventilation In Bird Room
Thanks for the tip!! I am in the process of doing a bird room and I like the whirly bird idea - especially blocking it off at night

My Beautiful Bg
Thanks Guys, It is really hard. My vet offered to eutanase him, but i couldn't do it. Not today and on the spot like that I can hear him eating... the warm lamp makes him feel so much better, but his eyes still show that he is not good. I also forgot to add that he had a full course of antibiotics for the upper respiratory infection for 10 days, But he has continued to deteriorate from then on - just in case anyone thought i didn't treat his infection The vet said that he has probably been discreetly having these infections for years and because he has gone without treatment in the past his lungs have been damaged too badly to heal. he breaths very heavily (not wheezing though) and is wobbly in his feet.

My Beautiful Bg
My beautiful BG who i have had for about 5 years (94 ring) has been sick for the last 3 weeks. He had a upper respiratory infection in autumn, but it came back 3 weeks ago - only two days after i took this photo (he's the one in the middle) I have been back and forth with him to the vet and spent almost $200 on tests and appointments, All his tests have come back negative, no infections, parasites etc. The vet has diagnosed him with kidney failure and lung damage due to old age The vet told me to keep him warm and comfortable and let him go quietly. she didn't give me any meds for him, she said they would just prolong 'it' I am keeping him comfortable with a warm lamp and watching his every breath - i had such high hopes for him - I had planned to pair him with Lady ( the spangle on the right of picture) in spring I am so sad - my poor beautiful BG!!!

Thistles!?
I know what Salvation Jane looks like, but that's in the flowering stage, it has an earlier stage they call the rosette stage, before it starts branching up & producing flower heads. I know lots of people don't like it but it's great for bees it produces 35% protein pollen & bees do great on it. Don't feed it to your birds but. i never knew that I always thought it was a spindly lanky looking weed. Thanks for that - I have learned something new today

Thank God For The Rain
Congrats on all your eggs. I am not a winter breeder myself - It's too cold and risky on the chicks. I really hope you have success and i look forward to hearing the news that they have hatched and are doing well What is your breeding set up like?? Last spring i rapped my nest boxes with towels to help insulate against the cold.

Hen Or Cock - What's Your Guess
Looks like an adult recessive pied to me which means its probably a boy. but I agree with Andrew, the photos are way to small to tell for sure. They allow large photos of up to 650px by 480px on here - a larger, clear photo of the cere will help
-
Longflights
That's very interesting - the difference in length is striking - I have never thought about flight length before, but from now on i will be looking at how long (or short) my birds flights are. Thanks for sharing. I bet its the birds with long flights that can still fly high after a full wing clip

Seed Storage
That is BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! Thank you so much sharing that idea!! I am so sick of lugging water! Do you use/buy spring water or do you just refill with tap water??? Andrew, Your seed will be fine. As long as its kept dry, dark and cool it will be fine just make sure you finish the seed before the use by date

Sky's Special Day
She is going in or out of breeding condition. If her cere was brown before it changed, then she is going out of condition. If her cere was a white/blue then she is starting to go back into condition. - both totally normal for a hen
