They are great ideas!!! Looks like my husk blowing days are over! I like the pouring from one container to another idea - brilliant I am too worried about giving only one days worth of seed - what if something happened suddenly and I couldn't get home to feed them

how do you guys blow your husks??? I am getting over having husks in my face, in my hair and down my clothes from blowing them off the top of the seed dishes! Also, I feel like i am wasting heaps of good seed - Is there a way to separate the good seed from the husks in a more effective way??
  3. With our busy life styles and ever growing list of things "to do" - there is just not enough time in the day to do it all. So what are some of the time saving things you do to get though each day?? I hate cooking so I always cook 2 meals at the same time so i only need to cook every second night. I dry all my clothes inside on clothes areas so i don't have to move them until they are dry. I hang all tops and shirts (that don't stretch out of shape) up on hangers when wet and dry them hanging in the laundry. - this also makes them really easy to iron if they need it at all That's just a few i can think of that i do. I am a stay at home mum of 2 and i struggle to keep the house clean on a daily basis - I would be highly embarrassed if someone came to the door for coffee right now How do you domestic goddesses/gods with like 4 kids and pets and jobs etc etc etc do it - what is your secrets!!!

After he has settled in a bit you can have his wings clipped as it will help with the taming process a lot Pet shops are a pain in the butt as their staff don't know what they are talking about 80% of the time. We see so many people who get wrong advice or even deliberately miss led by pet shop staff

  11. I dont have any problems with wild birds. Just the odd sparrow and pigeon that visit the back yard - which is a shame, i miss my wild birds Can you hang old CD's around the aviary?? I see a lot of people using CD's to keep birds off their fruit trees.

Hello and welcome Rusky is adorable - he is a male and looks about 5 months old and I say he is a recessive pied, but i often get my pieds mixed up so dont hold me to it . He will be timid because of his age. if the pet shop said he was a baby then they were wrong. You will be able to tame him but it will take a lot longer than it would normally take with a baby of 6-8 weeks old.
  13. He is lovely I am so happy he is settling in nicely for you - he looks very cheeky
  14. I agree - pictures PLEASE
  15. I agree that your birds will be fine (and very happy) in an aviary. They are very hardy and handle the coldest winters just fine - Only the weak and unwell will not cope in the cold. Like AV said though, you need to let them adjust slowly to the cold. Also give them more foods to fatten them up a little to help cope with the cold. Add sunflower seeds and hulled oats to their regular seed mix. Any weak or unwell birds would be better off kept in the sheltered (not breeding) cabinets. Remember strict quarantine for your newbies - 5 meters away (or another room) from your current birds.

  20. You are so right, Liv. I looked for a place with mature trees and found one with a great big Maple in the front yard, and the back yard opens out onto a ravine with....you guessed it, lots of trees! That sounds beautiful We haven't owned a tree yet We have planted some baby trees but they are only small and need to do LOTS of growing. Again...you are right. I find the more cleaning, work I do, etc. the more it feels like MY house and not someone else's. (previous owner smoked too, so the smell was terrible in places and I scrubbed the walls and waxed the floors....bought some plants to clean the air. It's getting better. Fortunately, the walls weren't yellow or anything.) Ekkk!! Our first house was a tiny place, occupied by three heavy smokers and the walls, carpet, celings etc were literally dripping with yellow goo - we didn't have much money at the time and it was all we could afford being first home owners. It took us months to clean it up. it was lovely by the time we sold it though My friend has a bull mastiff, I have never seen a more lovable, placid BIG dog He lays in the sun on his back with all four legs pointing up to the sky and goes to sleep - SOOOO FUNNY Rotwillers are nice too, i have two friends with them and they are both great with the small kids too
  21. Thinking of you - hope all goes well today.
