  1. it's not my cup of tea - their way of talking is so exaggerated and yucky that it grates on my ears - i don't like the way it makes Australians look
  2. The finger tapping seed is a very successful method when weaning babies as they learn by mimicking what the parents do - good luck
  3. Could you have removed the hen and let the dad finish the job? Also fostering older chicks often doesn't work as the parents seem to know about it once the feathers are through. As far as hand rearing goes - that's not my area, but what you have sounds right - good luck Give the baby millet to nibble on in its cage. I would also try and not crop feed first. if it will take it from a syringe or a spoon, its better in the long run too.
  4. My son trained in a week (including though the night) so i had no issues with him. (I bribed him with an old laptop computer :hi: ) My daughter (2) is nowhere near ready so i think she will be a struggle this summer. My friends daughter is 4 and was still doing poos in her pants. she would do wee's on the toilet with no issues at all, but poo's she would hold and hold until she could do it in a pullup or undies. Se had tried everything and as a last resort she took her daughter shopping and said. "pick what you want". Her little girl chose her favorite barbie and her mum put it on top of the fridge in full display and said to her daughter "Do poo's on the toilet, and you get the barbie" It took about 3 days, but it worked a treat, and she (i believe) hasn't had an accident since. I like bribery too, but sometimes a lolly isn't enough to get them to take that first step over something they are scared of.
  5. i have metal millet clips - thanks for the warning! I am so pleased it doesn't seem serious. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

termites are a nightmare - always get a building inspection before buying a house - there are so many things that can be lurking. If you are going to get a home of your own, remember its not all about the cost as you need to make sure the house is something you'd be happy living in for a number of years (normally 5 years min for a good return on your purchase) and in an area that you feel safe in. Good luck

  11. The more bonded they are to you the quicker they tend to talk. You will hear it before anyone else, so its most likely that he is starting to mimic

I am very sorry to hear that you have not quarantined :sadsorry: Personally, i would go to the store today and get a new cage. I don't know where you are located, but here in SA we have perfect rectangular cages for $30 at "cheap as chips". Put Skye in the new cage and leave your new budgie in the old cage. It will be okay having them in the same room as most of the illnesses are not airborne. It is not to late to quarantine still Good luck with your budgies and i look forward to lots of photos and updates
  18. ummm... about 5 minutes ago - kids :sadsorry: when was the last time you had 7 hours solid sleep?

  22. Brilliant news!!!! I am so pleased you and Jake are feeling better
  23. so funny!!! Bombs AWWWWWAAAYYYYYY! Are the eggs cracked? They are possibly going to the ground to lay them...
  24. That is very impressive! the whole thought of hand rearing scares me and i am dreading the day i have to to it. That brooder is awesome!!! how do you get heat though.... it it from the light as i thought those lights were cool ones
  25. Congrats on your healthy babies The parents need lots of good food throughout the entire breeding process, so yes, give lots of greens (being peas, silver beet, broccoli etc) , yellows (being corn) and oranges (being carrots ) I don't think the egg and biscuit mix is adequate for hand rearing as it doesn't have all the essential goodness in it. hand rearing food is required. Egg and biscuit can be used as a soft food to feed the parents along with their fresh food
