  3. It sure has happened! many times before infact Some escaped birds have come back home, even as late as after 5 days. Put a cage outside with seed in it and the door open. Put it in a position where she will be able see and/or hear her partner. Good luck and i really hope she returns.
  4. Hello and welcome. I am so sorry you lost your hen I agree with Neat The dad will do fine on his own :hap:
  5. haha - you will have to do better than that to grose us out
  6. Provided the feathers above the cere are not damp or stained, there is nothing wrong with budgies sneezing
  7. Your opaline spangle is the youngest one
  8. You have 2 female normal greens 1 male spangle 1 female opaline spangle
  9. I am with Kaz on this one too. I am not fond of pellets Perhaps your seed mix has a high percentage of hulled oats in it - its the hulled oats that bulks up budgies. Sunflower seeds also put on weight, but are not very common in regular budgie mix.
  10. What a scare I hope everything will be okay.
  11. I don't think I have read anything from Mr Binks before. very impressive!! I also like the way he writes. I will have to get one of his books
  12. A seems great to me but 15-20 mins cooking is overkill. 3-5 mins is ample to kill any bacteria. :fear
  13. So sorry you have had a bad day :fear Are you able to supplement feed the little babies while the parent learns? I had to do it with one of my maiden hens - it took her 24 hours to feed on her own.
  14. Sure is Blue babies can come from any green parent provided they are split for blue :fear
  15. What a cutie. From the colour of the cere in the photo, Sunny looks like a boy to me So pleased Sunny escaped the jaws of the snake :fear A YF1 the yellow face colour is restricted to the face only YF2 the yellow bleeds though the body feathers and sometimes though the wings and tail too. some YF2 genes can turn a blue budgie completely green.
  16. i never find myself saying "Okey Dokey" OMG! it cracks me up when people say that
  17. Thanks Jwancia and Trish . she is my favorite from this round. Shhh! Don't tell the others hehe Thanks Dave for clearing it up for me - this little girl had me confused
  18. yes it would if you put it in the aviary. I remember a member saying once that s/he had a bucket of water outside the aviary and they would find drowned mice in it all the time
  19. There is also a bucket of water too. Actually there is a trick with a bucket of water for catching mice.... i cant remember what it is .... but there is something you put in the water and they jump right in and drown themselves.
  20. cool :bump: try your best and use a macro setting to reduce the blur.
  21. I always thought it took a few days to work :bump:
  22. can you take photos of the wound??
  23. I normally put the chicks back in the box at night for the first night or two - 80% of the time they jump out again, but there is no harm in doing so if the parents are loving and not harming the chicks. You can put an upturned container on the bottom of the cabinet too for the chicks to sit in if you feel they are out a little early.
  24. What did you use?? if you get some white pepper for in the future it is really the best coagulant out there and it helps stop the birds pecking at the wound site for a while :bump:
  25. Budgies can bleed out quickly as they don't have a lot of blood in their tiny bodies. Catching a flighty bird can be hard. sometimes its easier to take out the perches and try and catch them on the bottom of their cage with your hand. You have to move fast with your hand and try and corner them if you are not confident catching them. Try using a cloth to catch him with. Try taking his cage into a dim room and catch him in the dark. if all comes to a fail, wet him with a spray bottle until he is so wet he cant fly. Use plain flour to stop the bleeding if you don't have any of the previously mentioned remedies . Put the powder on the cut (i dont know if baby powder is safe though) and aply pressure with a tissue for a few minutes until the bleeding stops
