  1. One of my hens has stopped sitting on her eggs. She has laid 6 and started sitting on them after the 3rd was laid. She rarely left the nesting box for 10 days and for the last 4 days she has hardly been in there?? She has moved the eggs out of the concave bit and lined them all up around the sides of the box? I am presuming the eggs will be no good? If this is the case how long should I leave them in there. The first was due to hatch this Wednesday.
  2. We have almost finished our aviary today, only a couple more things to do before the birds go in tomorrow hopefully. Getting the ground ready: The frame arrives: Finishing off: As you can see my youngest loves to be in photos
  3. I love the flight picture, it's awesome
  4. Good luck with your wishes
  5. That was my first thought Kaz, but when I re-read the post it says: "I have five budgies, the newest member was introduced a week ago today". I am thinking maybe (hopefully) the bird was quarantined before being introduced??

They are so cute. I can't wait until next week to see if any of our eggs are fertile and hatch.
  7. Yes, I'm hoping the lady needs some more work done because now I have 2 extra females and I like to have an even number of males and females (not particular reason it's just me) and seeing I've promised not to buy anymore that's the only way I'll get any...hahha
  8. That is very sad tolula, hope you find out the cause and it's not to serious.
  9. Lovely photos, can't wait to see more
  10. Not surprised you had so many prizes Kaz, they are really beautiful birds.

Yes there will be one built on to the side of the avairy. Still got lots to do on it yet.....My hubby keeps telling me patience is a virtue!! (Laughing out loud)
  12. You're very lucky to have such beautiful chicks.
  13. After I promised my hubby last week that I wouldn't buy anymore budgies today came home with 2 himself. He had been doing a job for an elderly lady who had several budgies and said that she would like to get rid of a few as she was getting past caring for so many. So my hubby offered to take 2 that he liked in lieu of payment for the job. She told him that the yellow was a cinnamon wing but I think it is a lacewing as she has plum eyes. The other has me stumped she told my hubby that it was just a pied but I'm not sure. Sorry they're not very good pictures through the cage bars.
  14. These are photos of the rescued budgies my son bought home and I'm having trouble telling which are male and which are female, especially the albinos. I thnk this blue is a male? The albinos together look to have different ceres. Albino 1 (I think this one is a girl?) Albino 2 (I think this one is a boy?) How'd I go???

Hahaha....I went out this afternoon and when I came home the avairy frame was there and my hubby and brother-in-law were being very smart (or so they thought) They'd put the back wall on, the roof and the front wire. I asked them why they hadn't put down the cement pavers first and they weren't very happy - I won't print what they said. Lucky the front sheets haven't been put on, now they have to put the pavers in through the front hole...(Laughing out loud)

It's all starting to come together now. Getting the ground ready to put the cement pavers down for the floor because the frame is coming tonight. Very exciting. My 2 year old is helping dig the dirt out, much to Dad's delight...(Laughing out loud)
  17. Thanks Kaz, I will give her a big rest. Our new large aviary should be ready next weekend (fingers crossed) and I will put her in that until next year. She looks a lot better today. She laid another egg this morning in her seed tray so I took it out and fostered it to another hen, was that alright to do??? Will she keep laying evr second day still?
  18. Daz has done a wonderful "How to set up a breeding cage etc" follow the link http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=11715

I'm sorry to hear that the beak is growing again, hope you are able to find a good home for him
  20. One of my breeding hens has started to pluck out her front feathers? She laid an egg on 15/10, that night she broke it and ate it (I know it was her because she had the yolk all down the front of her). Second egg she laid on the 17/10 she sat on that okay then she laid the 3rd yesterday (19/10) and she seemed okay and was sitting on that one also. When I checked her today she had broken both eggs and had started to pluck out her front feathers from her chest down to her vent? When she left the box to have some exercise and something to eat the cock in the cage would kick her back towards the next box - is this normal? None of my other cocks seem to do this when the hen comes out of the box. I have taken her out of the cage and put her under a heat lamp and she seems to have settled down a bit. Should I have taken her out or left her in the cage?
  21. Congratulations Kaz, great going :budgiedance:
  22. These are some of our birds, I'm not sure what sort they are and would be greatly appreciative of any help. Thanks. p.s. don't laugh at the names, my sons named them....(Laughing out loud) This is Pepper This is Betty and Jack - presently paired with 3 eggs This is Smokey This is Cinnamon and Sugar - presently paired with 6 eggs This is Daisy This is Max This is Matilda This is Jill
  23. They are coming along great thanks for asking. They never stop eating and they are so cute they all have to be around the dish to eat together. I haven't named them as yet, my sister in law wants one of the albinos if one is a male, but very hard to sex albinos at this age.
  24. Found out some news today regarding the death of the hen from the neighbour of my son's friend where he got these birds. It seems that the hen died trying to lay and egg from a second round, so these birds were already hatched when she died. Apparently the boy got a bit confused when tellling my son what had happened. Sorry for any misleading information in my first post but I was just going by what was told to my son at the time. I hope this clears everything up.
