Very Exciting News For Us
Our first baby has hatched today. Is it just my imagination or do fertile eggs look different to clear eggs? Last week our first clutch from another hen didn't hatch and they were a dull cream color. This hens are all a shiny white in color.

Blue Or Green?
Is this a Yellowface type 2 blue or green? Wings are a lemon color (not white) and black, cheek patches are violet

Strange Bird
We have been bird sitting this bird for the last 3 weeks and have just found out that we will have him for another 6 weeks so I have put him in the aviary instead of his small cage. Problem is that his owner wanted to cut his wings, but after cutting one didn't like the way it looked so left the other one, so he can't fly properly and tends to go in a circle and loses his balance. How long until the cut wing grows back. Also would someone be able to tell me what sort of budgie his is? He is also a very large bird. His wings have a slate/bluish color on them and his eyes are plum. I though he was a grey wing but not sure.

Out Of Quarantine And Not Sure On Colors?
Would this cock be better for her? What hen would I put the fallow with then?

Out Of Quarantine And Not Sure On Colors?
This is Samson and Delilah, out of quarantine and going into a breeding box to see how they go. Samson is a lemon color with mauve cheek patches and plum eyes?? Delilah is I think maybe a grey green spangle?? She wasn't very impressed with the photo, she was taking a nap.

Very Disappointed With The Breeder We Found :-)
Still, mate...it seems you have been sold "retirement" birds....not what you were after at all. Yes that's true. They're still nice birds and look great in our aviary, just can't reproduce.

Very Disappointed With The Breeder We Found :-)
I am very sorry, after re-reading my post my finger has slipped on the 2 instead of the 1, they cost us $100. That will teach me to check my posts before posting them...oops

What To Breed This Hen With
I have been told this hen is a Opaline Cobalt Dominant Pied and wondered what would be the best color cock to breed her with to get a similar budgie?

Very Disappointed With The Breeder We Found :-)
I think the breeder we found has given us a bum steer? We bought 3 hens and 4 cocks from him to breed with as he new because he asked us a lot of questions as to what we wanted to do with the budgies etc. Well 1 hen was out of condition, the 2 others have laid eggs and broken them all, 1 of the cocks only has one leg and a stump for the other (he chewed the foot off when his leg ring got caught on something), the breeder assured us that he could still mate and was very experienced at it - we found that he just sat in the corner of the breeding cage and when he did try to mate just kept fallling off. I have put them all out into the aviary this afternoon and checked the leg rings to log them into a journal and they are all 01 and 02 birds. Isn't this to old to breed from? I feel like we have really been had with these birds, especially since we paid nearly $200 for them. We won't be going back there again.

Nobody Claimed This Budgie So We Have!
Well he has decided himself by pairing up with a cinnamon opaline violet, they have been inseperable for the last 2 days and as we are only breeding to increase our own flock I thought I would put them together in a breeding cage. There has already been a lot of activity between them and she has been in and out of the nest box all afternoon. So fingers crossed.

How Long Do I Leave A Breeding Pair?
I have had a pair together in a breeding cage for 3 weeks. There is no sign that the hen has even been in the nesting box yet. Her cere is a really dark chocolatey brown, darking than some of my others that have already laid eggs. How long do I leave them together when nothing is happening? This is a photo of her, not a very good close up of her cere.

Weetbix
I was talking to a lady at the supermarket this morning and budgies came up (isn't that strange). Anyway she said that she gives her's a crumbled up weetbix every morning, is it okay to do that??

Our Avairy Almost Ready For Birds....yippee
We are in Golden Plains Shire. I rang the Council and the girl I spoke to new of no laws regarding bird avairys in our area and I asked her to put that in writing and send me a copy which she did. We also have a relation that works in a different department at the Council and will give us a heads up if anyone complains.

Hen That Has Stopped Sitting On Eggs?
I took the eggs out, cracked them all open. 5 were just yolks and one had some blood in it. I watched the hen and decided to put her in the aviary with the others, she is only 15 months old so I'll give her some more time and try her next year with hopefully a better result.

Nobody Claimed This Budgie So We Have!
This budgie flew into our yard about 6 weeks ago, he was very fluffed up with no tail feathers and couldn't fly very well but seemed tame. We put up flyers all over town and put an add in our local paper and newsletter but no-one came forward, so we've decided that he is ours now. I put him in the avairy this afternoon and he is flying wonderful with the other birds, still got no tail feathers. Could someone tell me what his color would be, he is a very pretty green - I would say a mint green.

Our Avairy Almost Ready For Birds....yippee
They still put down the concrete pavers for the floor, we also put sand on top of them. When we put the birds in there this morning they all had a ball on the floor with the sand they love it. I only had 12 budgies to put in there as the other 20 are all in breeding boxes, so they look a bit lonely in that big space. It's along our side fence actually. We have an elderly couple on that side, he's lovely (half deaf) but his wife already complains that our boys make to much noise so now she'll have something else to complain about.....hehehe
