Ivermectin - No Longer The Recommended Treatment For Mites?
No didn't take any birds with me. We used to be regulars at that vets when we lived in that area and still had an account there. Apparently this is just a new spray that they prefer to treat mites with?

New Aviary
Good luck. The budgie bug is very contagious, my boys gave me one for Mothers Day last year and now we about about 40 We built an avairy 4 metres long x 2 metres wide, it's a good size for us.

Ivermectin - No Longer The Recommended Treatment For Mites?
The vet is about 30km for me, our local vet is more into large animals are we are in what you call a rural area the last time I went there with a bird they just scratched there head. I rang some other vets and they won't sell over the counter Ivermectin either and the one I went to was where Maesie got hers from?

That must be a different type of Avitrol. I don't want to use it at all now.

Quails
She's only laid the 7 eggs in the last 10 days and been sitting on them for 2 days, but doesn't seem to be sitting on them constantly?

Advice Needed For Baby Chicks
Thanks Michelle, she was my favourite budgie - very special as my boys gave her to me for Mothers Day last year. We have already named the little chick Valentine, I call it my funny little valentine.

Ivermectin - No Longer The Recommended Treatment For Mites?
That was my concern also, I don't like the idea of a spray - it says don't spray it anywhere near there eyes and nostrils (won't be an easy task) that's why I wanted the spot on Ivermectin but there aren't any other vets that have it.

Ivermectin - No Longer The Recommended Treatment For Mites?
Today I went to the Vet that Maesie had recommended to me awhile ago to get some Ivermectin as I've had an outbreak of mites. The vet told me that they no longer recommended Ivermectin spot on treatment as it can be quite dangerous if not administered by a vet and I'm not taking 40 birds to the vets. He told me that this is what they recommend now, it's called Avitrol. Has anyone else heard of this?

No it feels smooth not grainy Yes I give him a mix of boiled egg, grated carrot and silverbeet. Also soaked seed every second day.

Quails
Yes this is exactly like them. Sad news is that the lacewing cock that was sitting on the quail eggs this morning I have found dead on the aviary floor this afternoon with his head pecked in?? Not sure if it was the male quail or another budgie?

Quails
The man at the shop said they were king quail but also said they were both male so??? The one sitting on the eggs is brown and the other one is a bluey/grey with white and black around it's face. I will try and get some photos but they run to fast and I'm not very quick at the minute...(Laughing out loud) The other thing is when I checked the avairy this morning I couldn't find our lacewing cock bird so went searching and found him sitting on the quail eggs while he quail was out for a run?? Is this strange?

Advice Needed For Baby Chicks
Yes it's 19 days, it hatched on Valentine's Day. As I said it seems very small for it's age, didn't seem to grow much at all for the first week and it seems to be doing much better in the last maybe 4 days.

Quails
Could someone tell me how long quail sit on eggs for please? We got 2 quail for the bottom of our avaiy, were told they were both male (never having had quail before don't know how to tell male and female just thought they were different breeds). The brown one has laid 7 eggs and is sitting on them for the last 2 days.

Advice Needed For Baby Chicks
Just an update on the chicks. Unfortunately the youngest died, the cock kept pushing it out of the nest. The oldest one is 19 days old but seems very small, has just opened it's eyes in the last few days and only has the fluff feathers. Sometimes it's crop seems so full it looks like it is going to burst. Not sure if it's okay or something wrong with it being so small. I don't know what's going on with photobucket I have kept reducing the size of these photos, went down to 160 x 120 and they're still coming out to big on here?? sorry.

Advice Needed For Baby Chicks
Thanks for all your responses. So far the Dad is doing an excellent job of raising the 2 chicks, he stays in the nest with them most of the day only leaving for food. The older chick seems to be doing better than the youngest one but so far so good. My other question is the youngest chick is going to have red eyes. The hen was a violet opaline cinnamon wing and the cock is a grey green opaline. Does this mean that the cock is split for an ino?

Advice Needed For Baby Chicks
Could someone please tell me if a cock bird can successfullly raise 2 chicks alone? This is my problem, my hen was sitting on 5 eggs, (2 fertile and 3 clear) The first hatched last Thursday and on Saturday morning I found the hen dead on the cage floor, she had been fine not shown any signs of illness? The cock has been feeding the chick by himself and yesterday the other one hatched and he is trying to feed both of them. I can see some food in their crops but they aren't over full. I had put down 4 breeding pairs but this was the only pair that had any eggs so I can't foster them to another hen.

Help Needed Sexing Budgies
These chicks all had black ceres and beaks when younger and now I'm finding it hard to tell what they are, I think they are all girls: They are 10 weeks old now. Also does purle cheek patches mean violet and blue cheek patches mean blue in colors? 1 and 2 both girls? 3. Girl? 4. Girl? 5. Girl? 6. Girl? 7. Girl? Second lot of chicks now 9 weeks old: 1. Girl? 2. Boy?
