New Pet Budgie (mind Change)
I have a similar little boy I ended up naming Jezza (after Alex Jesaulenko, if anyone knows their AFL!)

Little Sprinter
okay, can someone please tell me what is going on with my little girl? I know she is supposed to be an opaline, but she is getting darker and darker as she is getting older, both her back and her face . . . . .

And Another Featherbaby Joins My Flock
No, he is in quarantine at the moment, these pictures were taken while he was still in the cage at the Queen Victoria Market . . . thank you for your concern anyhow, it's nice to be reminded of such necessities every now and then. :fear

And Another Featherbaby Joins My Flock
Everyone, I would like to introduce you to the newest member of my feathered family. . . This is M.J. The name may be either temporary or permanent, I'm not sure yet. When I put him in my transport cage, he took a ferw steps forward on the floor of the cage, and theh he proceeded to MOONWALK! Hence the initials M.J! When I saw him down at the Queen Victoria Market, I just wanted to pick him up and cuddle him. You know that look when they 'look' fluffy, but aren't 'sick' fluffy? Yeah, well . . . Anyhow, you all know I am also very partial to the yellowfaces, although the only ones I have at the moment are type 2's . . .

Little Sprinter
Yes, my littlest girl isn't so little any more, but, of course, just as flighty as ever. But she has changed - she has gone from this to this Any thoughts? I thought she was an opaline? Is she just very heavily marked now she has been through her 6 month moult? This is her mother, Olive (actually a grey-green) and as for the dad, we were sure it was a non-green spangle opaline, and the only one in the aviary at the time was Jezza . . .

B.o.m October Entries!
Name : Kylie Ann Chappell Location : Melbourne Australia Email : kylie_gary@ihug.com.au Cobalt is a cobalt Australian Banded Pied budgie that I have had for a couple of years. I went through a phase of naming after colour/mutation and gemstones. Hence the name . . . Cobalt is an English budgie, and quite a docile bird. I was originally trying to set up an aviary with no green series birds (which didn't happen, obviously) as at the time I wasn't overly keen on your average green budgie - but they grew on me! But this picture took ages, because he's such a fast mover!

Possible Outcomes
Kylie Chappell replied to Kylie Chappell's post in a topic in Budgie Mutations, Varieties and GeneticsWhat? No spangle opalines? But they're my favourite!!!

Possible Outcomes
What are the possible outcomes for either of these pairings? Moody Blue (Cobalt Spangle Opaline) with Stoney (Normal Mauve) Yes, he really is THAT dark! OR Moody Blue (Cobalt Spangle Opaline) with Cobalt (Dominant Pied) Come to think of it, in that picture I just realised he is clearflighted . . . and just for fun, here is another picture of Cobalt that I like . . .

Good English?

***oops ! ***no Nesting Boxes In The Aviary ?!
Hehehe, that pair looks familiar . . . Introducing a newly bonded pair, Lavendar (Male - Rec. Pied) and Jerri (Female - Sky Cinnamon) I have also caught them in a photo, 'doing the deed', but Lavendar seemed unphased by the camera and kept going! Decided not to put the picture on the forum though, but if you scout around my photobucket album you'll find it . . .

Almost Due To Fledge

Pictures Of My Young Ones
As a postscript, I'd better put in that the 2nd green (Wriglet) went to a new home and is adapting very well with another budgie friend to play with. Also, Mumbles' nestmate, Snuggles, the grey SF spangle, somehow escaped from the aviary a couple of weeks ago. No idea how, but being only a few moths of age, and where we are situated (Fawkner/Glenroy), there are a lot of crows, etc around, and really do not hold out much hope for his survival. :fear

A New Addition To The Feathered Family
This is a new addition to the family. I'd had my eye on her for a week or so before I lost Fluoro, at the local Pets Paridise at Broadmeadows. I knew I had to have her when she was still there on Saturday, as rough-looking as before. She looked a little picked on, looks relatively healthy otherwise, but will stay in quarantine for a month anyway. At The Seed Dish On My Perch See My Poor Scruffy Chest? Close Up! Who Couldn't Love This Face? I believe her to be a YF Type 2, as she has blue underwings, and the only feather she lost whilst I was putting her in the cage was a cobalt blue colour (Though I can't hold her long enough to get a picture of that yet). PS - "How did she get the name FeBi?" I hear you ask. . . . SHE BIT ME THROUGH THE BOX!!! :fear: Sooooo, she is a little Feisty Bi***!

Red Budgies
I think the closest you can get to this (at the moment) is the black faced anthracite (but can't get either mutation in Australia). Anthracite : http://www.budgieplace.com/c_anthracite.html Black Face : http://www.budgieplace.com/c_blackface.html I was talking to a friend tonight, and he told me that when his father bred budgies years ago, he bred an albino that had pink feathers under the wings . . .

What's The Difference
I noticed a few things . . . Yes, the grey is a nicer feathered bird, but I believe it has dropped wings, as well as having a 'bump' on the lower back, as the green bird has a much nicer stance. As for the 'looking at the trees' comment, I believe the perches in the grey's cage are too close together, therefore not confoming to the cage standard, and may had been disqualified, perhaps?

Got My First Creamino:
Yeah, I have a creamino that was given to me as the hen was attacking due to wanting to lay another round. This is Squirt, and this is the only picture I have hosted at the moment, all the rest are on my computer at home. Will try to get some 'early days' pics, when he came to me all scrawny and with hardly any feathers. . .

New Around The Aviary
Sunshine hasn't had a mate yet, but I would really like to pair him off with Olive, mainly for size reasons. Fluoro was bonded with a cobalt opaline hen named (what else but!) Opal, who has sadly since passed away. paired with They produced one chick - Wriggles I'm sure it was love at first sight when he met his futune 'wife' when he was just 6 weeks of age! His wife was named Cheese, and so far they have has one clutch of 3 chicks, Moody Blue, Wriglet, and Fuji. As for naming the chicks, Moody Blue was giving smooches when she decided I needed a lip piercing and wouldn't let go, Wriglet is the spitting image of his father, Wriggles, at the same age, personality and all, and as for Fuji, let's just say it involves a reverse cycle air conditioner. . . .
