Thanks for the ideas, I thought they were too young, but they really spread their wings when I hold them and not much room in box to do that. My nest box slides out of the cage but I will make a lid of wire to place on it to keep them cooler and more air. Thanks Kel

Is it okay to move babies out of nest box and let them live in the nest cage so they have more air and room. They are 2-3 weeks and they seem to be poking their heads out of the box hole alot to their mum and dad. When I get them out they have a good move around etc. Could I put them in nest cage bottom during day then in nest box at night or still too young. It is all in the same cage and would not be moving parents, ( it gets warm and humid in box during day, Townsville) Thanks

Well things are going well, Number 5 hatched today and I have not had to feed them since yesterday. Their crops are getting bigger each day and mum seems to be feeding them the mixture i made up, Thanks for the recipe!!! The difference between number 2 and 5 is huge, they grow so quickly. They still cannot really lift their heads, but they huddle up so tight in their box. I will get around to photos, hopefully tomorrow, but thanks for your help and wishes! This is so exciting, I have become obsessed! :feedbirds:

They are only 2 and 1 day old. I am just worried if she is not feeding them they may get hurt if she doesnt want them. One had nothing in its crop, looked flat and wrinkly, the other had a small crop with seed like dots. The first one died at 3 days, none of their crops look full like the ones in pictures, If anyone has any photos of newborns crops that would be great thanks. I fed them and they seemed to want it, moving head around and standing up to me. I really dont want to loose any more. Thanks No my other 2 are not breeding. Thanks anyway, I will keep an eye on them and see what happpens, she is still going in the nest with them but doesnt seem to be feeding them much or at all, Thanks for your help

HI If the parents do not seem to be feeding the chicjs, should I move them out of the aviary to prevent them getting hurt?? or should I just leave thema nd see if they get the hang of it. I have not seen the father go in the nest at all. There are still 4 eggs to hatch I think only 2 are fertile. Thanks
  16. Thanks They have seed, carrot and millet mix i also made up some egg and bisket for them. I noticed the babys have air in their crops, should I just wait and see how it goes.
  17. Hi I woke up this morning to go and check if I had any new chicks and sadly my 1st born one has died. It was 3 days old and I thought it was doing well. It was getting bigger and stronger each day. My question is when the parent feeds it and you can see it in the crop what should ot look like, you could see black spots and loooked like seeds. Shouldnt it be broken up a bit more. Could someone please tell me what I should be seeing, any pics would be great. Thanks and merry xmas.

Hi This is my hens first clutch and she is up to her 7th egg. I am really concerned about the eggs getting the attention they need with so many. Can I remove the new ones as she lays or will she keep going. Any advice would be appreiciated.

I am very excited to say I have 6 eggs now laid. It is so exciting! This is her 1st clutch and I am a bit concerned about when she will stop laying eggs.( all up there has been 10 eggs laid in aviary) 2 weeks ago I found 3 eggs on the floor, I had 2 pairs in an aviary, one of the hens laid eggs in the food as well so I out in a nest box and put the eggs in there, The next day I came out and the eggs where broken on the floor and one hen in the box. I assumed it was this hen laying. So I removed the other pair and left that pair alone to make their babies!!!! . Sadly the pair I put into the other cage must of also been breeding as hen became egg bound and died a couple of days later, ( I did seek help and follow advice but sadly no luck). So this brings me to now!!! I feel sad for my male left in the cage on his own as im sure he is lonely, But not sure if I should move back to aviary as the other hen has the 6 eggs. should I Just wait untill the babies flesge to move him back in? any advice would be good. Thanks

I have 4 budgies in an aviary. They have all paired off together. I had 2 that where showing signs of breeding and all looked good. Then the other pair stole their nest box. ( I had 2 in there) I have moved the 2 out that stole it and put them in a cage of their own with a nest box. My concerns are Is the cage too small, they have come from an aviary to a standard bird cage ( like you wouls have inside) it looks so small and they cannot really fly with the nest box in there. How long should I leave them in there? if they are showing no signs of breeding. How do I know if they are happy? They are chirping away and keep standing on each others tails, ( not sure if they are trying to get close as they are scared or for another reason( if you know what I mean!!(Laughing out loud)) and jumping around. If they are inside the house and are used to being outside will they get scared of the noises. Will seperating them from the others disturb what breeding they have begun. any advice would be good. Thanks :dbb1:

HI I am new here and new to budgies! I had 2 budgies and things were going great. I bought 3 more and one of the budgies has bright green and white poo which is quite runny. Could this be just a change in diet ( as the breeder had his on a differnt diet) or is there somthing more. Any help would be appreciated. Kel
