  1. Thank you everybody for the advice! I haven't done anything yet, however the two hens have definitely realized their are also two 'boys' in the aviary! One Hen and one Cock have been feeding and grooming each other non stop this week, and I noticed today that the other two have decided to follow in their foot steps! Depending on whether they end up fighting over a next box will determine whether or not I separate them. But fingers crossed and I won't have too! I'm starting to get excited of the possibilities now, stay tuned to see how they progress
  2. Thank you Robyn, The two Hen's came from the same breeder and all four birds have only been in the same aviary together for about a month. This is the first time I have seen any kind of bonding between any of them, so I guess we can just hope for the best and pray that there will be minimal fighting and end up with all four pairing up (to the right sex) and rearing some beautiful young!
  3. I know that this question may be totally ridiculous. But I have 4 budgies in one aviary. Two male and two female, there are two nesting boxes and it seems the two females are checking out (going in and out together) the same nesting box. While the two males are just minding their own business not paying any attention to the females. Is it possible that the females have paired together and think that they can breed? Thank you everyone!
  4. this is a photo of one of the babies from the first ever clutch i had. He is about three weeks old and is a boy. hope this helps!

okay. i was planning on buying some more budgies soon. i was fixing my aviary yesterday and moved my only pair to a small cage. while i was hammering away on the new aviary my beautiful white budgie flew right past my head. and onto the fence. i spent half an hour trying to catch it but did not succeed. so unfortunatley, the pair i was going to breed has no dad. So it looks like no breeding for them. Which is a masive shame because i lossed another budgie last week after a butcher bird had scared it to death. so now im down to 1. I will buy her a mate in the next week and maybe a few more pairs, the only place i can get them from is pet shops. but boy i will never trust a pet shop again after when i got my hen (the only one a have left) wings clipped, and they have never grown back, so they must have cut the feathers into the veins or something? stopping the growth? so she is flighless. That pet shop has moved somewhere else now. any way, i'll have a look at the birds in other pet shops in town and i'll see if there is anything i like. Hopefully i will get a good looking boy for this well deserved hen!:hap:

thanks, umm before the egg was layed today there has been two more eggs laid like 2 and 4 days before that one was laid and the mum just cracked them open and threw them out is there a chance she knew that they weren't fertile because i looked inside them and there was just yoke?

my hen only laid three eggs and all were fertile they are in a warm room out of the cold now i will only allow 2 clutches and then will take the nest box out thanks.

I NEVER do 3 clutches in a row and wouldnt advise it. Where are you breeding the birds if the baby came out of a nest on a cold, windy and rainy night ? they were outside because pet shop lady told me it was more like nature but after my baby died i moved them straight inside so they are in a nice warm room
  21. kabel05 replied to kabel05's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
thanks guys i will do two and give them a rest. but this is another question their first clutch had three and 1 baby died bacause he came out of the nest on a really windy, rainy cold night. if they had three or less on the next clutch would there be a chance they could do a third clutch easier than if a pair had 6 babies both times? :ausb:

is it unhealthy for a pair to start another clutch right after the first one? what are the risks? are they high? could i do it?

My first breeding pair have recently had 3 babies one died 2 days ago and this morning when i went to take out the second oldest from the cage (been out of nest for 2 days) i got him out and jumped of my finger and flew straight over the fence. i was so worried but in shock that he is able to fly so well even though he has been out of the box only for 2 days!!! for half an hour i jumped fences climbed trees looking for my poor little guy. when i was about to give up i saw a butcher bird up high in a tree staring at something a bit lower i screamed and jumped over my next door neighbours fence then........................ swoop went the butcher bird at the budgie but amazingly the budgie was faster!!!!!!! (a 4 week old budgie against like a 4 yearold butcher bird???) my budgie flew straight over another fence only to be joined by another butcher bird to butchers sitting on a fence staring down at my poor babie budgie i scaled the fence and again.... swoop went the butcher birds at my budgie but again faster than them it landed on a shed gutter up went the butcjers getting in a good position for another swoop. i sprinted to the fence and slammed a net over my budgie "i got it" i screamed so the hole neighbourhood could hear now beautiful baby is in his cage with his parents and is fine!!!! :(Laughing out loud):

my first breeding pair ever hsve had three babies they are all out of the nest today all fully feathered! i took them out at about lunch time to give them a bath but i think i took them out during a feed and the two youngest had full crops and the oldest had an empty one!! the two youngest are eating seed and grass and the oldest is just nibbling the grass and food a little bit he is puffed up and eyes closed and he doesn't look good at all. iv'e put some eucalyptus leaves in there that might do something but will the baby survive the next feed or is it just plain sick. can i do anything? when the dad comes close hes at him to try and get some foood but the dad just flies away or ignores him!! please help me i dont want to lose him!!!!
