Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
No still putting on 2011 rings , even though they will be young I am still trying to breed something for the young bird shield next year. Anything with 2012 can't go to the young bird shield until 2013. So I am using all the 2011 rings up first still have 30 I think. And the way it is here at the moment birds I have will be to old for young cap shield and the ones I put down last week will be to young. I am talking from my best nest.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
Thanks Robyn all young birds looked okay today, NO deaths thank god. Hatched 2 more chicks, I think that makes 30 now, but just before I was checking a nest parents to the young one that died yesterday, she has 4 fertile eggs, well there was a hole in one and I couldn't here any chipping or chirps so I chipped away at it because the membrane was broken anyway it was dead. It still had a bit yolk stuck to it's tummy. I put the other 3 fertile eggs under another hen who has the same cock with here, the cock is in with this hen. They are 2 light greens, the hen where the chick died is grey. So I am hoping that if the chicks hatch they will be grey green, and the other hen will be light green even sky. Anyway I prefer to have the chicks and not no the parents than have no chick at all. Why I took the eggs off the hen is because she looks like she is going out of condition, her cere is turning blueish and I don't want to loose here. Plus that gives me another breeding cage too.

Bird Of Prey- Discouraging Measures
We have rotten Goshawks and peregrine-falcons hanging around and they are deadly, more so when they work in twos, Greg has racing pigeons and it is horriable when you one of those hawks attack them in the sky. last week we had 2 Wedgetail eagles hanging around. The hawks haven't really bothered the budgies but we have magpies nesting in a tree in the next doors back yard and they chance the hawks away, they are worth having around. We also have sparrow hawks but they are not deadly. Peregrine falcon

Pink Budgie Nest 2011
Sorry to hear that you have lost some chicks and your hen Maddy, I really know how you feel. I found a young bird dead on the floor yesterday, one of my fist I bred this year, she was about 10 weeks old. I have no idea why she died. and I had a yellow belly death too but at least it was in the same nest as the yellow death last week.

Cross my fingers for you Dave. lol

My 2011 Breeding Journal
I had a bit of a set back today, I hope it is isolated to the one bird. To start with one of the nest hatched a chick and it was dead this morning yellow belly, the same nest as last week with yellow belly. I did treat them with moxi T. But my worse shock was in the baby aviary, my grey green hen was dean on the floor, have no idea why, she looked perfectly healthy yesterday, and when I found her, her bum was normal, she hadn't lost weight. I have no idea why she died. Anyway I just hope no more die or I will be off to the vet for an autopsy. It is annoying because first I lost my little chicks and now my older chicks. This chick is one of the first I bred. Well she survived or the deaths but who knows maybe their system is poisoned.

My Baby Mauves/purples/violets
They don't work.

Mid 2011 Breeding Journal
I keep my cocks and hens in separate aviaries and when I put them down I sometimes have hens lay eggs within eight days and they are fertile. So yours could be okay Dave.

Light Green Line
The suffusion is because of the dark factor. Chookbreeder said that you have to try and keep the dark factor out of the clear bodies. And anyway if the bird is good and has heaps going for it why can't you bench it , they just take points away for faults. To breed dark greens, put a cobalt hen with a light green cock and you will get some dark greens, I bred heaps the other year doing that. It probably works the other too.

Watery Poo
Does it smell and what colour is it. But then maybe you should be ringing a vet.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
The son is really darker than that to Taylor, it's the dumb camera, washes the colour out. I took one of my grey green a couple of weeks ago and it came out looking more like a grey yellow face instead of grey green.

This is closer to his true colour and his son, a chip off the block i think. I have 25 chicks now and very pleased things are going better.

Waterers
I use what they call automatic drinkers, a small round dish with a bottle turned up side down in the middle of it. I can change the size of the bottle I use. I change water everyday. I use boiled water for my birds. I have the guinea pig drinkers but my leak or drip, make an awful mess. But I do like them , If I can get one that doesn't drip I would use them for sure.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
Well the mum is a .....dark green spangle her parents, Violet hen and yellow Df spangle Dad is a ..... violet You can see he has violet on both sides , he actually looks more like a dark grey green, he is probably olive actually. he has the dark factor on both sides. But I call him my violet green. Some one can explain it heaps better than as I am not really into the genetics. it does my head in.

Hi
Hi Bob and welcome to the Forum. Sounds like you no what you are doing and have some good mentors to help. We have racing pigeons here, Greg races them. Greg has the pigeons and I have the budgies, lol this is a real bird place here. lol I really wish the budgies would return home when they decide to have a fly lol. Wouldn't it be could to watch them fly around the house with all their beautiful colours and then land on the landing and go back into their aviaries. How wonderful would that be. BUT no they just keep going, don't even look back. lol

How Do I Stop Young Hens From Laying Eggs And Sitting?
Just leave her in the aviary but make sure there is no nest boxes in there. If she is in a small cage, just make sure there is nowhere for her to nest, other than that I wouldn't worry about it to much. I have a friend who has had chicks under 3 months lay eggs in the baby cage, but then they don't sit on them though.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
24 chicks now. I broke a couple of eggs today and the chicks died very early on. I put more pairs down today but didn't take any photos, sorry. pairs yellow Df spangle cock / cobalt spangle light green dom pied / sky blue cinn hen lutino cock / lutino hen grey green cock / grey opaline spangle hen light green cock / green green cinn hen. there is another pair I put down but just can't remember what. But i still have my dark green opaline yellow face spangle to pair up yet but can't find a hen for him he is the one in my siggy , he is on the right hand side.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
Thanks Gb, the grey chick is a bit slumpy looking but he is young , just wouldn't sit probably, but the poor little thing along with the lutino hen have both had a bad run, I just hope their grow isn't stunted from when they were not getting fed probably. He the violet green keeps going like this, yes I am sure there will be some to spare next year. The violet green is the son of my violet I won the shield with and on his mums side,, dark green spangle hen and her father the yellow DF spangle..... so his mother is half sister to the white boy. So as you see I have the spangle coming into this and I think that is why the violet green is so good. GB I thinking of putting him with a violet hen too. That will be interesting.

"the Fancy"
I was actually to scared to clean the cage out and putting their in the cage was a nightmare. I swear as soon those hen heard the door on the cage move they out of nest and attacking me. And they would hold and rip pieces out of me. Last week I went to check a nest with one of those killers and forgot about it and put my hand in teh nest and quickly pulled my hand out with a piercing pain running up my finger and there was a bl..dy rotton killer hen attached, well she adventurely let go and flew around the bird room while I jumped up and screaming because she took a chunk out of my finger. Bi.ch. God I was just checking. So if any one is after this new bird of killer budgies and I do have some with the eagle look, real nasty bu.ggers they are just send me a email, I am sure I can oblige.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
Thanks Gb just hope it works out, the have the background you were after, the old violet hen, so you never no I could crack one. but I am worried they might be smaller putting 2 dark factors together. I am just hoping the white boy starts to fill eggs more. The violet green is actually a sex maniac. every hen I have put him with he is at it straight away and he doesn't care if they are not interested he will just take them anyway. lol love him because he is filling everything. And plus he himself is a stunner.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
I took some photos but the quality is poor, will have to go back to my SLR I think. White Double Factor cock. my grand Champion bird and grey opaline hen They had 2 fertile eggs earlier and only this one survive he is 5 weeks I am quite happy with this little chap so I put them down again today. This little fella was put in a foster nest and the hen stopped feeding him and my lutino hen when they were only 4 weeks old so I have been trying to save them, the lutino was excepted by another nest but the grey spangle was left to me to save, he is going okay but he has no weight on him at all. But he is coming along fine. This pair light green spangle cock / sky blue cinn opaline, they have 3 fertile eggs and one chick hatched yesterday and going fine. sorry crappy picture This pair.. clearbody cock and grey opaline hen. This pair.. violet green cock / sky blue spangle This is their chick from earlier round and he was the only that survived. I have eggs and chicks from the violet green with a dark green hen , No pics of the pair . but she laid 6 eggs and I put them under another hen and she continued to lay another seven and most look fertile. and here are some chicks

"the Fancy"
Gb is right their is not a lot of women in the hobby , well there is but men out do them by numbers for sure, Like my club I am the only women in it and when I was in the Riverina club I was the only women in that club too. very sad. Hey Daryl I breed killer budgies , true. I have a couple of rotten hens that once they get chicks they attack everytime I put my hand in the breeding cage, I have to go in armed with thick gloves and something think up my arm to cover my skin. They bite and hang on. I come away crying with pain every time. Big chunks out of my arm. So let me know if you want to start this new breed of killer budgies, I can supply a few of you, Mine are really nasty, Greg laughs at me but serious they are killers
