  1. YEP MB most of my cocks are split opaline and cinnamon BUT don't be too hasty not to use them as cinnamon gives you feather and opaline gives you size So not to use them would almost be suicide considering we are all after that illusive feather which I now have in my aviary using both of the above. ANd I also have size now.
  2. Your birds are lovely as for your baby she is stunning she probably would do alright at a show depending on size, she has a lovely long bib but she does need more directional feather and width of face. When I say width of face see how you can see her eyes when you look front on at her well that means she is narrow in the face and lacking width of face and directional feather. BUT she is not bad. I have seen worse and I have bred worse she is well worth keeping to see how she turns out. She could come into her glory once she moults. BUT it could be the photo that shows her narrow and in real life she could be great too.
  3. She looks opaline to me and she has no markings on the back of the neck so she is not normal spangle, I have some the same, My latest is a light green opaline spangle and she has the classic opaline colour which is not good and some black markings BUT my other opaline spangles are classed as well marked opaline as they have the black outline on the wings etc
  4. My Partner made his own stainer by using a icecream container and drilling holes of the size you want in the bottom which he stained corn out of his feed so maybe you can make one like that to strain out the sunflower.
  5. Well I guess you are right but I myself wouldn't risk it ,so you would be better off asking one of your members. Even if you can get some of the sunflower out the over seed might note be so noticeable. Good luck at the show oh by the way where is the show.
  6. I think you can be disqualified or marks taken off you if your seed isn't to standard
  7. I think the seed is meant to be a mix of the usual but I don't know about your additives try to strain them out, do you get the BCV mag it is in there somewhere. I know that you are meant to have good amount in the bottom of the cage like an inch thick at least. 9. Hen
  10. I put my with their soaked seed in the morning. For their veges I grate carrot, chop up celery and leaves, peeled but uncooked beetroot grated or vitamised, chopped up silverbeet and peas and corn the birds love it.

Hi BB 09, I had 19 cages going this year, 14 last year and next year I think I will go back to 14 or 15, just sold a back of 4. Yes I think the breeding room gets very messy with a large number of cages always cleaning, at the moment I have 4 cages still going and it is much easier only because I have had enough being breeding since end of March so can't wait to get the room empty. I agree quality is so much more important than quantity Good luck with your pieds as That is what I want to do but I can't seem to get hold of any good ones, I have put 2 pieds cocks down this year and no good pied babies but the normals that came out of the nest are great. Where abouts do you live? I know some good breeders around here of pieds but they are costly which I can't afford.
  12. How wonderful, Have a great time Liv
  13. I had a yellow face cobalt hen given to me when I first started she had splayed legs and the owner tryed to fix her as a chick but never really worked. So he gave her to me when she was 14 months old and laying eggs. She got around great, she could fly but she did have a few falls so I named her spalt and that's where my user name came from. Not that I really have to many falls but I am known to trip over my own feet sometimes. :bluebudgie:

Wouldn't you boil the goodness out of it if you boiled too long I grate mine uncooked and mix with their vegies and they love it but it does look like some one has killed some one by the red on their faces but at least you can see who is eating it.
  18. Tahnks Kaz, excellent information. GREAT !!!!!
  19. Have a nice safe trip Jimmy :hap: and enjoy yourself.
  20. Poor birdy clumsy thing, Hope he's okay though. Lovely parrots Kaz I use to breed Princess Parrots, Regent Parrots and a few more different types that would be over 15 years ago. Still love them though went out of them because of all the **** of writing down every egg they layed in the registered book. Some one told me it is much easier now. Actually I don't think you even need a licence for Princess Parrots now.
  21. Congratulations on your Wedding MRS MB , better late than never!! Can't wait to see the photos
  22. Mine have been jumping out before they turn 4 weeks, it's normal
  23. Another reason for cold chicks which is the most common for me is that sometimes when the hen gets out of the nest the or a chick might be caught in her feathers so it will fall to the floor. This has happened to me heaps of time and in full winter too -2 Degrees well in the morning when I have gone out to check them and feed them I have found babies ice cold on the floor and they have been saved by blowing my warm breath on them and cup it in my hand. It is really amazing when you see them start to breath again and have a little kick and a little stretch
