Yes Kaz there is a a lump (egg sized) by her vent that's what I was trying to say. So it is going to lay and egg and how long and the hen is 1 1/2 years old. I had one clutch from the hen and have kept one baby budgie with them and now this is begining to strees the hen the baby took a peak inside the box today and the hen came and poked it out, I was thinking to remove that baby budgie and give it to my cousin who has 4 budgies and take it back after the chicks are weaned but will this affect the hen when I seperate the baby from them

How do I know when a hen is going to lay an egg will she be fat ? How fat, where? and can a hen produce an egg whenever or for all budgie hens every where is a season?

Hi Lankan, Welcome…if you put budgies together to breed they can have eggs in something like 10 days, but sometimes it may take much longer & with some pairs for some reason it may not be obvious. I have had some pairs that have been together for months & even the hen has spent all day in the nest, with still no eggs. In cases like this something is wrong, you can try changing the mate or trying another cage or a different nest, but sometimes it will turn out that something must be wrong, probably with the hen, in which case she will be of no use for breeding. Re feeding the egg, this can be a good idea, but I usually mix other things with it, I don’t know if similar things are available for you in Canada. To one egg I mix one arrowroot biscuit, one shredded wholemeal biscuit & a similar amount of dried breadcrumbs, rub the egg & other mixture together to mix well, if too dry a small amount of water, but not too much, it’s good to just be slightly crumbly. If too dry or too wet they wont like it. Don’t feed too much at once, it can be kept in the frig for a day, but always flesh is best & remove any old egg & biscuit that’s not eaten. what can be wrong with the mate, they have layed one clucth before all hacthed and should i remove that mate or add more birds

Hi my pair of budgies were mating for about 30 sec today. I am new to breeding budgies and they were mating for sevaral days before about 2months ago and no eggs yet but the mom was fat those months but now it is skinny like a male budgie but tried to mate today. The male will make sevaral attemps to get on top of the female but female won't let him but today she let him. THe mom was peeking into the nestbox for sevaral days. HOw long does it take for them to lay an egg after mating. I also took a whole egg with shell and hard boiled it and grinded it into small pieces and gave it to them is that healthy Can you guys answer my question please and thank you

HI there to all the budgie lovers and I currently have 3 budgies mom dad and child. 3 months ago I bought them expensive food 1 bag is $20 then I bought 1 bag $2.80. NAd the expensive one finished and currently feeding the cheap one and lateer after 1 month of feeding them cheap food their feathers are all falling out and wondering if they are molting and can i know the exact definetion of molting and my birds had sex 1 month ago but still no eggs and do birds coaperate with dogs since i'm getting one thanks can someone answer the questions.
