Ivermectin Question.
Hey all long time no post, been working a lot like 6 days a week so ive had zero time to post here. Unfortunately one of my budgies got scaly face while my a.v.(avian vet) was away on vacation and her office closed, but luckily for me she was willing to take a few emails from me and some pics of the infected bird and made the diagnosis of scaly face. She told me where i could buy some ivermectin online and said to just follow the doseage directions on the bottle. So i finally get it in the mail and theres two different directions (its invermectin .08g/per l (grams per liter) with slippery elm). One set says apply 1 drop to the skin of the neck for 5x days the other says 1/2 teaspoon per quart of water 1 day a week for 6 weeks. At this point where shes going she cant get emials from me and the vet who is taking over for my regular is only skilled in emerengcy care and told me he wasny sure but either one should be okay....anyone have a better doseage or know which one i should use????? Thanks much. Oh by the way before i forget lucky for me she is a new bird and still in quarentine so hopefully no mass treatments needed..just incase anyone was wondering.

Is there such a mutation or thing as a half english budgie? What i'm guessing would be from an English and Australian?

Iodine?
Just got back from this amazing new bird only store, they must have had over 200 birds there from finches to amazons! They set me up with an avian iodine solution so we'll hope it works! They had a huge selection of bulk seed, so im thinking about making up a blend any suggestions? ( if this question is off topic ill move it to the propper one )

Iodine?
Are you refering to the standard mineral blocks or even the cuttle bones with the mineral suppement around them....?? Well my guys n gals get a basic seed diet with about 25% pellet mixed in and daily purple leaf lettuce and what ever else i can get em to munch on broccoli, carrot tops (but they wont touch the orange part for some reason) assorted sprouts i.e alfalfa, bean and thats just in their main feeders in any little mirror dishes or smaller dishes they get a vitamin + mineral enriched blend (by 8 in 1 i believe its a moulting blend)......

Iodine?
What (if any) are good ways to get iodine in to my budgies' diet. As a few of them have had breathing issues (and were brought to the avian vet). But all the tests have come back negative and they really dont look nor act sick. My vet mentioned that sometimes iodine deficiancy can cause a swelling of the thyroid gland which can push on the esophagus and cause a wheezing or clicking.....but its kind of rough with her because with out the back up of a test(that would show a positive for any peticuar disease) shes real reuctant to diagnose anything with my birds as she keeps citing that Budgies are notorious for hiding illnesses and even harder to diagnose. Its all kinda frustrating because i cant afford to keep bringing them back for every single sniffle to be told it could be anything and then to get put on a broad based antibiotic and not really get any effect. I mean dont get me wrong im thrilled none of my flock have the dreaded psittacosis (or any other bacterial probs w/ all the antibois they have been on) but i would like to know what to do for them to get em breathing o.k, because being a person who had severe asthma when younger i know exactly what its like to have issues breathing and wouldnt wish that on anything...

Two New Budgies!?!?!
Hey all Hope you had a good St. Pattys day. :wine  Well i thought i was done an even dozen birds, but nooo I just had to come across these two beauties and after a checkup (as well with a clean bill of health (no pun intended Ha!)from the breeders) Numbers 13 and 14 found there way in to my flock. Heres Hurley what i believe to be a male goldenface olive green with possible mauve as well hes quite odd colored?? and Houdini Frostilicus whos a male violet opaline with grey wing....I know the names a bit haughty but my finace named him Frostilicus (some odd off Simpsons refrence) and I insisted he be called Houdini as he is what promped the checkups when he learned how to escape from his cage more than once!! so forgive all my chatter heres the photos... oh and as usual since im kinda new to the budgie game I appreciate all input especially on genetics and mutations as one day I hope to breed. Hurley Hurley reading me the riot act so this was the last picture i took as he just came home today see the odd colors? H.f (houdini frostilicus)trying to hide in the wrong color camo..... Hmmm mabey this blanket is my color?? I'm not giving up!! (the flash is making him look a little lighter than he really is is true color is more like the neck area) My own personal remote guarding attack budgie With his new gal Moxie hes kind of a ham and let me take a bunch of shots of him.. Heres a great one my fiance' Christine got earlier today, Sing to me!! (dont mind the crappy looking ceiling in the backround the cages were on a high table momentarily while I was vaccuuming underneath...) This is how Pixel sleeps every night what a weird bird! I've allways wondered what mutation my Jack is i got him from a pet store about a year ago so no chance on finding the parents i was thinking yellowface 2 dom pied opaline with possible greywing and i only say greywing because of the grey sideburns and suggestions? and another of Jack.. And ones last of Moe and Sumo who seemed to pair off this week too (must be spring time as almost everyone was solo in my avairy till bout 2 weeks ago and now i have 6 couples (gulps!)and ill be keeping an eye on them too! HOpE YoU eNjOy!!! :feedbirds: :glare:

Odd Behavior?
Well i have 13 of the little guys n girls so they go through the destroyables pretty fast (about 4-5 days even on the big ones!!) so nothings in one spot for too long and about once every 2-3 weeks I change their setup (dont want anyone getting too comfy and havin lil ones yet) Which is a 2 cage setup (stacked) about 4' tall and 4' wide and since their clipped (only about half are fully tame the rest step up and dont bite just arent talkers yet) they have plenty of out time as their cage is open the entire time some ones home...and the extra cups are attached with that lame bent piece of wire...(im getting new ones as we speak...sometimes it takes someone pointing out the obvious for you to stop and just go Duh! i should get better feeding cups (Laughing out loud) thanks!)....so sounds like im on my way to rambling for bout an hr about my budgies and buyin some new cups ill try and get some pictures up soon Thanks again Lovey..

Odd Behavior?
Hey all sorry I havent posted anything in a while,(been working tons), but i have a quick question. Ive noticed one or two of my birds love to play demolition crew not just destroying their edible toys, I get them these vegan pinatas that are big woven shapes they can shredd and this thin braided (what looks like palm fronds) ribbon that i thread through the bars of thier cage...no with all that these two still knock down or over any feeding cups i put in there or their cuttle bone/millet holders and one even seems to take great joy in flipping any small baths i put out for em....any ideas and more importantly is this normal?
