Nice photos of Squee! Can we let her out next time I come down?!? There should be a 'motion' option in your camera which pretty much increases the shutter speed to take the photos in a shorter period of time (if it's a newer camera). Sometimes they have a little guy running as the symbol. Also try to have as much natural light in the room when you take the photos, as the less light you have the more the camera has to compensate by leaving the shutter open for longer and thus a longer time between pressing the button and the photo being taken. I've noticed a couple new cameras have this massive processing delay, so there is most likely a way to decrease/remove it if it is actually a set option.

She's even done that to me to an extent :hap: So cute! Always knew she was going to be an interesting one to tame from when we picked her up :hap: Good luck heheheheh
  6. Nice work, I'd like to think I would have put those same questions forward when it comes time for me to take charge of lil' finger-gobblers! And thanks for the answering, Chrysocome and Sailorwolf

All she needs how is laser eyes and a growth spurt and she'll be super Squee! :ausb: Very cute as always glad to hear she's finally had a chance to grace the outer-world with her presence.

Wow, slow down Running sentences give me headaches :budgiedance: A bird that's young is still growing itself, so to divert the energy going into growing it's own body to breeding would be very bad for the bird. Take a human of, lets say, 12 years of age. He or she could be physically capable of having a child, but imagine the toll on the child having to help grow a child inside them while still growing themselves! Not to mention how they would handle raising the child afterwards. So may I suggest what I plan to do when I get my first budgies: I don't intend to breed straight away, I plan on taking care of a number of budgies for a number of their ENTIRE life spans before I even consider breeding. This way I have hands on experience in taking care of the birds throughout their entire lives before I bring new ones into the world. In any case, it seems the overall consensus is that at least 12 months is probably the earliest you'd want to breed budgies, and even then you're pushing it for the budgie to be physically developed enough. Hope this helps you in your decisions.

Wahoo! Poop! :ausb: For starters it gives you an insight into the health of your budgie. If something is wrong (from what I know) you most likely will see it in a change in their poop before they show any symptoms themselves. Which is why I'm kinda sceptical about house training them, because I would imagine you'd want their poop to be as in sync with the natural running of their body as possible. That way it can give an adequate reflection of their internal health. To me altering when they poop seems to risk the ability to use this portent to better manage your birds health. I agree, teaching them where you would prefer them to go is probably the best thing to take away from that article, although I'd like it if the article went into a little more detail about the effects of house training, rather then just one sentence at the end.

The most important question for me though regarding housetraining birds is would it at all be detrimental to the health of the bird? Obviously it helps reduce the time it takes you to clean up after it and is another way of 'showing the bird who's boss' if you're into that sort of control. I just worry (from a fairly inexperienced point of view) whether forcing a budgie to defecate on command or forcing it to hold it in could be bad for its health. Can anyone allay my worry? :ausb:

Awwww, poor budgie!!! Hopefully it's better! Hopefully the rest of your budgies are safe if this one has caught something bad :ausb:
