Hi Flyer, I have budgies that are about the same age as yours. I have decided that mine are "randy teenagers" There is one male in particular that like to get on top of a female. He really doesn't know what he is doing though. Two of my hens have chocolate brown ceres, but they are too young to be allowed to beed yet, so I haven't put in any nestboxes. I think green chilli is like my bird that keeps 'acting it out'. When he is with one female, another one comes over and almost acts jealous. They are all just playing because they are way too young and not ready to start a family. Hope this helps. Feathers
  3. She is very pretty, Nathan.
  4. Hi Nathan, It is great that you want to hand train your budgies. Just don't worry if it takes a long time... some take 3 - 4 weeks, some can take 3 - 4 months. The important thing is to go slow, never frighten them and be very very patient. They have to get used to your hand first. So like Rainbow said, move slowly and deliberately and tell them what you are doing when you change their food and water. Every day just put you hand in the cage and don't move it at all, just talk to them all the time. Get them to trust your voice and trust your hand. Once you have done that for a week or two introduce them to millet. Once they know what it is, hold some as you put your hand in, but don't try to force them to eat it. Let them come to your hand if they want to... Once you have them completely trusting your hand, come back and ask about what to do next. Have fun with your new feathered friends. Feathers.
  5. Well, there you go.. you learn something new every day, especially in a nice friendly forum like this one You are just too good Bea. Mine never get prepared foods. They get fresh chopped or grated vegies. When I had (human) babies, I used to process vegies and other foods and freeze them in ice cube trays.. little ready to go meals... just had to thraw a cube of meat and carrots or tatoes or whatever, and we were ready to go :ausb:
  6. Hi Cheeta, I was going to ask if he came from a Cannington store.. all their birds a little while ago had the colour Milo has on his tail. It came from the material they were using on the cage floors for a while. If it is the same store I am thinking of, that is where I got Melika from on Thursday (yeah yeah, got another one before christmas). I specifically wanted a female. I commented to the girl that it was a shame that another pied, similar to mine, but with violet patches, wasn't a female. The girl told me she was, "she has a pink nose" :ausb: They sell any with any pink as a girl and those with any blue as a boy. At least they give some sound advice about quarantining new birds then.
  7. My avian vet said that some birds are more resistant to scaly face mites than others. I would probably quarantine her til she gets to the vet, as the longer she remains with the other birds, the more likely it will be that it will spread. My daughter's budgie had scaley face at about 4 - 5months old. So younger budgies can get it. The vet gave us a bottle of the treatment (ivermectin) so that I could repeat the treatment in 6 weeks, and I treated all my other budgies (just once) too. Hope this helps.
  8. Your birds have a great "corner" set up there. Good luck with the eggs.
  9. You have 2 of the same cages that Lovey and I have. I was going to see if I could get another one of them. Great birds.
  10. Just dropping in to say "hi", Kali, and to welcome you to this great forum.
  11. So cute... I love the second photo... Lemon looks so indignant.
  12. Fantastic photos.. she has grown into her spots very nicely indeed.
  13. I love the first YF skyblue baby and I'm still totally in love with honey and luigi's bub. My new baby that I got today looks just like atlas, except that mine has a little more wings markings than Atlas. Before I get serious with aviaries I really am going to have to check your's out, Kaz. But that won't be for quite a while yet.
  14. Oh, I am really sorry to hear this. I have a little soft spot for Baby, because she is so special, being such a grand age. I do hope that she will be okay. She has gotten through a lot to get to her wonderful age, so I'm hope this will just be another little bump in her road.
  15. That picture with her eyes closed is just amazing, you can feels how much she is enjoying herself. What a gorgeous girl!
  16. Calico really is sweet, such strong head markings, it is almost a shame that he will lose the bars. As for the pieds, they are looking great too. Shhh, don't tell Cheeta, but I did it again. I said I wouldn't.. till at least christmas I now have a lovely female white and skyblue danish pied.
  17. He is lovely, Cheeta..
  18. I just love the 6th photo and the caption to match. They are all such lovely budgies
  19. Hi Reitbauer, I am really dissapppointed about the impression you have about this forum. I am a pretty new member, having joined after reading it for about 5 - 6 months. I joined because I found the opposite to be true. I found that most people were really friendly and helpful. Unfortunately not everyone always agrees on different issues and it seems that just lately, there are a couple of people who seem to go out of their way to shove their opinions down everyone elses throats in a nasty way. Thankfully these posts are not the norm. If I see one I just don't read or respond to them. Annnyyway, to address the real reason behind your post. Budgies in the wild use holes in trees as nests, and they usually only seem big enough for one or two babies heads to stick out from. The hen wouldn't have laid her eggs there is she didn't think it was good enough. I think I would probably leave them, see if they hatch and monitor their progress. If they run into problems you may need to be prepared to hand rear them, so read up on that in the meantime and keep some rearing mix on hand. I am glad you are here! Feathers
  20. I can relate to how scary it can be when they get out. But it normally works itself out in the end. Mine all enjoys their daily flight time now.... some days they want out, some days they don't.
