The Boys ... And Girl
That 'sexy picture' probably one of the best pics I've seen of Blinkie "blowing" his head. What a show off. Now, can he teach some of my exhibition budgies to do the same thing? The tiels are looking fabulous too. Feathers.

Budgie Shakes/shivers
Hiya, initially my birds were not interested in their vegies as I was shoving whole pieces through the cage wires. As soon as I decided to try it all chopped up, or grated carrot etc, they had no problem trying it. Usually if one starts the others will soon follow. Keep at it, as they really do need the extra vitamins and minerals they get out of this type of food. Feathers.

Is This An English Breed Budgie
Haha, I got laughed at when I said the exact same thing last November. Just 1 more. I had 6 at the time, now look how many I have just 4 months later. Be careful of that Bug, it is very contageous and can lead to things you never quite intended

Just Bought My First Big Aviary
yep, that's it. A place for all of your "stock birds". Was fantastic.. even my perches came from a discount shop, they were made from bamboo lattice. My 14 year old daughter was with me when we were buying stuff and it was her that spotted some of the brilliant gear and had the brainwaves! Another place that has a lot of stuff much cheaper than pet shops is here: http://www.thepaintedparrot.com.au/shop/ (new address for anyone that has The Painted Parrot bookmarked. Feathers

Recessive Pied Gender
From these pictures Charley looks like a male to me. If it was a female the cere would have well and truly changed colour by the age of 18 months. Feathers.

Just Bought My First Big Aviary
Hiya Neat, Natural sticks, branches etc are always a great idea. Lice spraying the cage is great if you are at all concerned about it, it can't hurt. As for feeding dishes, I use the suspended types in my aviary. I find that it solves any problems with the seed being soiled. I have also put a container over the top of the seed dispenser to stop the budgies from going in to play and getting suffocated. I am also a great believer of toys. Why should aviary birds miss out on the fun their inside cousins get out of toys. You can use all sorts of things.. I got a lot of stuff for my aviary from $2 shops (skippings ropes, dog toys etc). Most of their toys are at the front so that from one side to the other is clear for exercise from flying. The parrot ladder idea is great as a few birds at once can play on it. This is a small part of the aviary, full of toys - they love it. feathers

He Sat On My Shoulder!
Fantastic. A lot of budgies (once they work it out) seem to love that position. You can go about your business and they get a bird's eye view (pun intended). Feathers.

G'day From 40degrees South
Hi There, just wanted to welcome you to the board. Beware, if you keep posting cute pics, your Cosmo may well end up as one of our favourite forum budgies (we claim forum rights of ownership on all well published budgies - and 16 yr old's - Hi Baby ) Doing 'silly' things like sitting near cosmo's cage and reading can help them get used to you. Given that the is an older budgie it may have been quite some time since he has had any handling by a friendly, but scary looking human Feathers

Just Bought My First Big Aviary
HI Neat, love the new aviary. I just recently got one as well. I found that diluted vinegar a brush a and broom to clean down the walls and wire worked wonders.. came up like new. Have fun fitting it out, I know I did. Feathers.

Class Ranks
Good question, I have just had a quick look through "The Standard" (the Australian bible of budgerigar showing) and it doesn't say. I believe it has to do with the number of points you win throughout a season, and I guess if you took out Nationals in any particular level you would have to move up. I wouldn't like to move until my own bred budgies are holding their own in any class, then I would need to move for the competition. Feathers.

Tumours In Budgies
Hi Jac, I was saddened to hear about Buddy. It must have been awful to find him that way. He's flying free in budgie heaven now and in no pain. Feathers.

Hi Everyone
Hi Wayno, pleased to meet you. Firstly, yes budgies can colony breed successfully under the right conditions. I personally wouldn't do it though as there are too many things that can go wrong. Again budgies and other small parrots can get along just fine, just not always in the same cage Budgies can get very aggressive and are likely to attack the other species if they feel there is not enough room or feed to go around etc. I like your idea of having the aviary sectioned off. As for places to buy stuff in Melbourne, sorry, I can't help you there, I am only a casual visitor from time to time (about every 10 years or so :hap: ) There is a lot of information on this site with heaps of great advice regarding the first couple of questions you asked. Have a look for some 'pinned' topics in the breeding section. Good luck with your aviary design. It's great you are asking questions before and not after Feathers.
