Gone To The Birds
Hi Clare, I said hello in your other post as well. As has already been said budgies need flight cages - wide enough for them to be able to fly from one side to the other. They don't do very well in small, tall cages - they are better suited to canaries. Here is a link to see lots of different people's cage setups and how many budgies they recommend to keep in them: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=12609 Have fun here, Feathers.

Budgies Vs Mice
Hi Donjasjit, really nice to meet you. I'll have to look up where you live on a map of India. I think you are our only forum member from that part of the world. I hope Hath's solution fixes the problem for you. Feathers.

Greywing Or Dilute ?
Ferris was so funny, she does the absolute best budgie front hip circles I have ever seen. As a gymnastics judge I would have given her a 9.55 You did brilliantly, Kaz, and it WAS great to see someone who needed a show cage winning the raffle.. way to go. Feathers.

Well, personally, I think budgies have so much more character than cats (I have 3 but I'm not a cat person). I could sit and watch a budgie at play for hours, but imagine how bored you would be watching a cat. Hmm, sleeping.. Gee wow (2 hours later), it stretched, hmm sleeping again...etc :hap: With the brocolli and carrots.. try the carrots grated and finely chop the brocolli. Mine seem to prefer 'prepared' vegies, rather than whole pieces :hap: Feathers.

Geez! That is one BIG crop to fill, along with all the other babies Curry and Laila are looking after. They deserve a 5 star holiday when they have finished, that's for sure. :hap: Feathers.

How To Get Louy Down Low!
Most birds, especially little budgies, like to be up high. This is a natural instinct as it puts them in a position where they can see their predators and hopefully be too high for a predator to catch them and make a meal out of them. All you can do is try to make your budgie feel safe with you by offering treats, as you have been doing. Feathers.

Sitting The Eggs
Do you happen to know of any one else that is breeding budgies at the moment. If you did, you could try transfering the eggs to one of their hens to foster. [shrugs] It's the only thing I can think of, other than trying to incubate them yourself using a box and a lamp. Feathers.

New Budgies Wing & Beak Real Bad
I like your attitude, posting info so others are more aware of it. As Nerwen said "That's the way to think" At least knowing which of the two it is you can learn how to appropriately deal with it. Poor baby Well, at the very least, they have each other, so life in quarantine won't be so bad. Feathers.

These pics look lighter than the copies I got yesterday, so I take back what I said about her looking darker. She is going to be one beaut bird! And Phoebe... I like Mammoth - even for a girl Queen Mammoth of the Budgiebird Hilton Feathers.

When I posted the picture I was wondering if I would get asked that question again, Nerwen It is so difficult to get the violet to show up, especially on the darker birds. No apology required Especially after the time you spent in doing the outcomes. Feathers.

Yep, carrots are great. Instead of giving him the iceberg lettuce, which will make his poops runny, give him darker leaf lettuces, like cos. They are also fond of the chinese greens, like pak choy and bok choy and most of them love brocolli as well. I just noticed this from an earlier post. The budgies preening gland is under their tail. That's why he keeps rubbing that area. They do it to release preening oils which helf keep their feathers in good shape. It's fantastic that your partner loves him so much They are such sweet little creatures. Feathers.

Sitting The Eggs
Hi Snip, it may well be too late, but I am no expert, so don't take my word on it. Here is the FAQ regarding incubating eggs: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...d=59&artlang=en Feathers.

New Budgies Wing & Beak Real Bad
I'm in.... I was just going to say the same thing as Elly, and I said the other day, just make sure that you wash your hands after tending to these budgies. Especially if you tend to the other budgies afterwards. I can't think of the brand name, but you can buy waterless disinfectant hand gel (in a pump bottle) from chemists. It may be an idea to keep a bottle near the cage you are going to keep these guys in. I also have a couple of 'special needs' budgies, that I willingly took on. I lost one to a bad heart recently and the remaining 2 are my inside budgies that get extra cuddles. It seems heartbreaking now, but they so easily worm their way into your heart, you'll soon think less about the disease and more about giving them as great a life as possible. Feathers. edited to add the following............ and from a different thread.. Was it an avian vet that you saw, and did she say it was French Moult (Polyomavirus) OR Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD)? These are two very different conditions. Here is the Avian Biotech link Elly put up for PBFD: http://www.avianbiotech.com/Diseases/Polyoma.htm and this is the Avian Biotech link for French Moult: http://www.avianbiotech.com/Diseases/Polyoma.htm Feathers.

Newbie!
Hi Socks, welcome to the BBC forum. There is so much fantastic information available here. If you go up the top and click on "Budgie FAQ" you will find a lot of the basic information there. Good foods, the grit debate, safe and unsafe items around the house etc. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have as well. As far as the Trill question goes, I was feeding my birds Trill and I know other members here do too, and I found no problems with it. All my birds were quite happy and healthy. As I have a lot more birds now I get my seed in larger quantities, otherwise I would quite possibly still use it. Feathers.

Thanks for that... I didn't bother with the colours, just the other mutations. You've done well. She is very definitely violet. We had this arguement once before in a mutations thread. I doubted my own eyes until the day I met Kaz. Her very first comment upon looking at my birds was, "I love your violet spangle" But, OOPS, yes, she is opaline So all split cocks. feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
I didn't have any breeding cabinets so I used some flight cages that I already had. I cut some aviary wire to fit in the middle of each cage. The only place that I could put the nestboxes was in the feeding doors. I did that by tying the doors up and then used cable ties to hold the nestboxes on. They are lower than I would like, but at least 3 of the pairs look like they will be laying very soon. The other 2 cabinets are compliments of Kaz. She is going to be doing new cabinets for her bird room, so I am quite happily taking her 'discards' It sure is the bird from Hans. As of this morning, I have 17. I got 3 new ones this morning. A mauve spangle cock, a grey spangle hen (magnificent) and an 07 rung cinnamon grey spangle hen. feathers.

Greywing Or Dilute ?
Hiya Kaz, I'd say greywing. As Elly said it is a recessive gene, so mating her to another greywing would give you 100% greywing offspring. If you mated her with a normal split greywing, you'd have a 50% chance. The other way to go would be to mate her with a good quality normal and line breed with the best granchild. feathers.

I had forgotten that I had a skyblue normal that was split for ino. I am a bit excited about the prospects of this pair.. whether or not I get visual ino's. I don't expect the same. It will be very exciting to see what I get.. I have the possibilities of inos, df spangles, YF2 and GF's, all sorts. With any luck I will soon have some eggs, which will go on to become little pink jelly beans, which will feather up nicely and reveal their genetic makeup. How exciting. feathers
