  1. Hi, poor Baby. I have no answers as to why it keeps getting broken, but I just wanted to make sure that she is getting a lot of protein in her diet. Protein is an important element for any bird that is moulting, or rather, growing in new feathers. Make sure she is getting some eggfood or another protein suppliment. Feathers.
  2. I have noticed that at least 1 avatar is oversize as well. Feathers.
  3. How old are chico and Kiky? They both look like barheads in that picture as well. Feathers.
  4. I hope that she has a quick trip back to good health, Riebie. Feathers.
  5. ditto Thanks, Feathers
  6. Reibe, I got the same cage, but with only one door, from a discount store (Gone Bazaar) and I also found another like it on line. Keeping your eye on ebay would be a good way to go Marlon. Nathan, where did you get yours from? Feathers.
  7. Hi There, all of your babies are looking fantastic. All the crops I saw (the sack under their head that hold their food) looked full, so the parents seem to be doing a great job feeding them. Keep checking on them, especially the littlest ones, and if you see any that don't seem to have a full enough crop, try moving them closer to the nest entrance so that they are noticed more. So far, so good though, the littlest one that I saw had been fed. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask about them. We have lots of very experienced budgie breeders here, like Kaz, who can answer all the questions you may have. Feathers. ps. loved the pics

Hi Mandy, With such great resources your husband should have built you an aviary long ago As Kaz said, you need to wash down the aviary, mesh included, with a solution that is at least 1 part vinegar to 9 parts water. This will help eliminate 'new aviary disease', which is caused by the birds chewing on the zinc plated wire. My aviary is on concrete pavers, which has been fine, but I got my son to seal under the bottom with a type of building glue to fill any gaps between the pavers and the aviary. These are the best 2 avian vets in Perth. I don't know of any that are in the Northern suburbs. Well done. Feathers.

So gorgeous, Pascale (Pastiel) loves to snuggle up under clothing too. He wriggles around until he finds the perfect spot Feathers.
  11. Your budgies will thank you for it :hap: Feathers.

Hi Susannah, welcome to the BBC forum. It is a great place to be, which hopefully is what made you 'come out' and start posting. There are lots of lovely people here and many more budgies :hap: I look forward to seeing pics of your babies. Feathers.

Hi Beks, you need to find an avian vet. They are vets that have specialised in birds. Most 'normal' vets do not have the specialised knowledge that you need to treat birds correctly. It is a good thing that she can still fly, so she is not too weak, but she must be well underweight for you to be worried about her. Keep a close eye on her as budgies can go downhill very fast. If she starts to get very sleepy, depressed looking, looks all fluffed up, tail pumps when she is breathing or sits at the bottom of the cage, get her to an avian vet as soon as possible. They are all signs that she is unwell. Feathers.

That's okay, easy mistake to make. Sounds like all is well then :hap: Have you checked to make sure that the new bub has food in it's crop? Feathers.
  15. Hiya Marlon, How did the vet check go? Who did you see? Feathers.
  16. Very lucky little birdies that you found it so fast. I bet Ken is happy that no more died. Feathers.

so very cute. I can picture them all whispering to each other, "What is that big thing" "I don't know, but he has feathers, that must be a good thing". "Yeah, it's a bit ugly but" etc :hap: Feathers.

The hen will sometimes abandon an egg that she feels is infertile or she may have accidentally moved the egg with her tail. You can push the egg back into the nest with the others. The reason the first egg didn't hatch when you expected it, is because the incubation time for budgie eggs is 18 days from the time the hen starts to sit on them. This normally doesn't happen until the hen has laid 2 or 3 eggs. The hen will keep the babies under her after they are hatched to keep them warm. Feathers.
  19. Ahh, well, Cosmo does obviously approve of the ladder, very good Great to hear that things are going so well as far as your relationship with him goes, too. Feathers.

Mammoth is definitely looking like a boy budgie.. a very good looking young boy at that! I love the last picture and laughing at you Feathers.

Way to go Mammoth The cere does seem awfully dark now, doesn't it? Nice blow on a couple of those new ones, Kaz. Looking good. Feathers.
  22. Hi there, I agree with Elly and Kaz, only because it doesn't make a lot of sense that the cere would turn brown to show the new ones he wasn't a threat. The females are the bossy birds in the budgie world. If would make more sense for it to go blue, as males are generally much more laid back budgies than females. Feathers.
  23. Kevin, I totally agree. I wouldn't put my budgies in there. They need a flight cage. The one you are looking at doesn't have anough space to fly from side to side. You are 100% correct, they do like to be up high, so a long cage makes sense! It would be better if the length was 92cm. Please don't go by the seller saying it is a budgie cage... I have seen a lot of cages and 'budgie starter kits in shops that should never ever be used to house budgies. You need to find one more like the shape of this one: Feathers.

Hi Mandy, yes, I think the aviary is way too small for that number of birds to happily co-exist. This could account for some of the missing feathers too, if they are getting agro with each other and competing for nests. You have done a great job by the sounds of things, getting it cleaned out for the birds. I agree with Kaz, as far as the nestboxes are concerned. I would take them all out for now and not replace them. Feathers.
  25. That is brilliant, hopefully they just get better and better from this point on. You are so lucky that you found it when you did, or it could have meant the loss of so many more poor babies. Feathers.
