My 2007 Babies So Far...
That won't matter in your first year at club level here, Paul, I don't think. We can certainly check. Feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
Same, Elly. As far as hens go, she is HUGE and has the best head I have seen on a hen. She is a buff bird. I was hoping for some good DF spangles from these two. Feathers.

Cod Liver Oil
My breeding room birds get seed soaked in cod liver oil and wheatgerm oil. The cod liver oil supplies vitamin D which is required for calcium uptake in birds. This is why it is so commonly used for breeding birds. My breeding room uses 500ml of seed per day, to which I add 4 ml cod liver oil and 1 ml wheatgerm oil, which is left to soak for 24 hours. Greetings
They are lovely birds, 2 recessive pieds and 1 dominant pied bird there. The greyish blue is probably a mauve bird, but we would need a picture to confirm that. Pet shops really make me angry. So many sell birds with totally inappropriate cages and then after paying out good money for them you are stuck with a dud. Not good. It will be fine to use while your new bird is in quarantine though. Feathers.

Forum Topic
Hi there! Welcome to the BBC forum. Nice to have yet another West Aussie here. They may just be settling in. Are they kept in a quiet room? You will find that the more noise around the noisier they usually get. We love photos here, so feel very free to post photos of your new feathered friends. Feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
I am going to start a new thread for Keely. I now have 4 pairs with a total of 12 eggs and 3 pairs with 2 chicks in each nest. The biggest news.. I now have a show budgie egg from this pair: The hen is a grey opaline spangle and the cock is a yellow double factor spangle. The hen is a VERY big girl and will go one round with this cock before changing to another I have in mind for her. This egg isn't any bigger than the other eggs in the pet budgie nests. Feathers.

Lucas Is Very Very Sick
Good on your hubby for shaving too. Losing his hair is a real reminder of exactly what he is going through I was losing my hair in chunks when I had a disease a few years back, and I remember how awful it was. I never went bald though, thank goodness, but I did put on 45 kilos (99 pounds) in 15 months from the steroids I was taking (unfortunately I didn't lose it before ending up in a wheelchair, so it is probably stuck with me now). Strength and love to get through this is coming to you all. Feathers.

Is French Moult Contagous?
Hi Nharvi, I have 2 birds with feather problems. French Moult is a nest condition and generally can't be passed to other birds, while PBFD is contageous. I have one bird like Konrad who has no flights or tail feathers. Like Konrad he did regrow some feathers only to drop them at his next moult, which is what I assume happened with Konrad. The other bird was fine as a baby, but during her first moult had a hard time with lice and mites and a respiratory disease, which caused a lot of stress. She went quite bald and has had problems with her wing feathers ever since. She still has tail feathers, but can't seem to keep any wing feathers. I think now that the skin is damaged where the wing feathers grow. Both of these birds have been kept with other birds with no problems. One was in an aviary with toddlers for his first 8 months, before coming to me as a 'special needs' budgie and the other was always kept with my budgies before I got my aviary. Now they share a cage and are the best mate and always do everything together. By all means, check with your vet, but unless your budgie has PBFD (he would have a soft or sometimes overgrown beak if he had PBFD) I really don't believe there will be any problems. eathers.

A Few Questions
Great looking cage Tal. I am one of the people with that cage and I set mine up without the roof. Instead I covered the top with aviary wire so that I could hang toys and treats from the top. Feathers.

Eyes
Hi, it coud be from many causes. Have you tried to clean the area at all? I would try a saline solution (salt in some warm water) or a teabag (tea has some healing properties). If it continues or gets worse an avian vet would be the way to go. You see Ray Butler, don't you? Feathers. Edit: I just checked to see if it was your bird with some missing feathers. This combined with the missing feathers could be a further sign of feather lice or mites. It would be a very good idea to use a lice/mite spray and if it continues definitely see the vet

3 New Birds For My Breeding Room
Hi Julie, The cock is an absolute beauty... are you sure he wouldn't prefer a home in sunny Perth? Both hens are nice too. I think the cobalt hen has some great qualities that outweigh her slightly smaller size. Feathers.

Not Interested In Nestbox
Neat, good pick up. Does the hen have iris rings? If not she is more than likely under 12 months of age. Feathers.

Update On My Hospital Cage
I think you have done an incredibly good job, well done. Feathers. ps. the base in mine goes all the way across, I have no gap, just a line of small drill holes in the bottom board - maybe that will help?

Feather Town Breeding
I am going to have to start a journal for Keely and Daddy soon. They now have 7 eggs, she is very keen... Everyone in breeding cages are looking great, very happy and well fed chicks tonight. Feathers.

Its Almost Mine!
It looks really good! I was the same when I got mine, felt like I had to get more stuff so it wasn't so empty Feathers.

Some Questions
He is such a cute little guy. Not sure why the feathers around his neck are missing. Try using a feather lice and mite spray to see if that helps. He isn't showing any signs of scaley face. Feathers.

A Few Questions
Hi Tal, move the extra male and put it in with the lone female, if there is enough room. They can still have out of cage time together if you want. Feathers..

Greetings
Hi Tal, welcome to the BBC forum, and feel quite welcome to fire any question at us that you like. There is always somebody here who will have the answer that you need. Feathers.

Forum Newbie
Hi, welcome to the BBC forum. When I looked at the first picture of your recessive pied, I thought male, then I saw the second and thought female. The fact is that some young recessive pieds are very hard to tell and it is not until they are older that you are sure. I have one in my aviary that I was unsure of until 12 months down the track. I would say that it is male, especially if it is older than 12 months, as the cere is a very dark pink. Feathers.

How Long?
Your birds should not breed until they are all older than 1 year and they need to be in breeding condition. There is a lot of great reading about this in the Breeding section of our FAQ area which is here: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...tion=show&cat=7 Feathers.
