Ohhh Cuddles
Ahhh Missylu, So cute, aren't they? Gotto love the way these tiny guys cuddle each other. You usually find the big ones with a protective wing over the little ones Feathers.

What Should I Do?
I often ask myself when buying new birds ... Why are they Adults For sale .... Could t be that they are infertile.... Afterall why would one get rid of a perfectly good bird ..... Food for thought ...... Maybe a pet no longer wanted but not after 3 years ...... Yes, neat that crossed my mind as well. But as I bought it from a club sale and spoke to the seller personally about the bird, I trusted him to tell me the truth about him as he knew I wanted to breed from him. Hi Jenene and Neat, It is usual practice for an exhibition breeder to use a cock for 1 - 2 years before they get 'culled' (sold). I also prefer trimming to plucking. Feathers.

Opinions Please
Hi Derek, sounds like I am going to need to congratulate you on your first (?) budgie purchase, getting you back into the hobby. As you said, it is a shame you can't see the budgie on a perch. Feathers

I Did It ! All 3 Babies Are Doing Well :)
Hi jsldb, I am so happy for you. That is an absolutely fantastic outcome! We do have a lot of members with huge amounts of experience but they couldn't have helped had you not asked the right questions. Well done. Feathers.

What They Look Like Now!
Hiya Libby, They all look absolutely fantastic. Are you planning to get into exhibiting? If so, I hate to say, but Precious currently has a major fault with the wing tips crossing, instead of 'meeting' over the tail feathers. They all look healthy and happy! Feathers.

Nesting Boxes
Derek, Daz could tell you, he makes nestboxes. There is a certain tool that is used, but the name escapes me at the moment. Feathers.

Smudge (got Him March 29, 2008)
Hi Renna, Smudge sounds like he is happy and healthy. The avian vet will give him a thorough check over when you have your appointment. As was said in a previous post there is a preening gland at the base of their tail that they use to keep their feathers in good condition, absolutely vital for a wild budgie. Kazumi (one of my budgies) preens a LOT!.. He just like to look nice Before preening other feathers they rub their nose vigorously on this gland at the base of their tail This is a picture of Kazumi rubbing his preening gland. It is always a good idea to worm a new budgie and treat them for scaley face mites, just something else you can chat to your vet about. Feathers.

Feather Town Breeding
3 chickies in the nest! Midori is turning out to be a very good mummy and Beau is being his usual great self, in and out of the nest helping Midori feed the chicks. Norm, Beau IS split for opaline, so maybe we will get more chicks with the great opaline definition Midori has. I have another baby that will hopefully be as gorgeous as Beau. He is in the nest of Dekota and Oh-Oh. This little chick is a skyblue opaline spangle... I do LOVE blue spangles... Feathers.

What Does My Ring Mean?
Definitely, Maesie. Most breeders, unless the bird it out of the ordinary, would only use them for a couple of seasons before selling them. There is only a certain amount of birds that can be kept due to the space they have. Most exhibition breeers have an annual cull. Feathers.

Amira And George... Arranged Marriage/ Joint Custody
Wednesday is good... but I know what your crazy schedule is like Feathers.

What Does My Ring Mean?
Hi Maesie, I can't find any BGV club, so I'd be with Daz, have another look, could it be BCV? If so, you could contact them to find out who the breeder was if you wish. He is a decent looking cock and may well have been bred in the last 2 years and is a now 'cull' bird. Feathers.

Amira And George... Arranged Marriage/ Joint Custody
Hey Kaz, I must come 'a-visiting'. My aviary birds looked on jealously when the breeding cages got budgie starter with vegies, so I did a heap of vegies for the aviary birds afternoon tea. Graye (YF boy) was sitting on the bowl before I even had a chance to put any into feeding dishes! I think he knows that he needs to be building strength for a visit to Aunty Kaz's aviary! Feathers.

Help Please!
Hi Dakyle, Poor Miss Olly, it really does sound like a vet emergency. By the time most budgies actually show signs of being ill they are very ill indeed. Budgies hide signs of illness as a survival strategy. I really hope she gets through this. The bird place you mentioned may have avian vets on staff, so that could be a good option. Feathers.

My Hillarious Social Budgie
Hi MissyJax, Welcome to the BBC forum! Both of the budgies, including the 'ratty one' are gorgeous. Overcrowding could well be the reason she looks like that. Don't some pet stores make you a bit angry about the way they treat their animals? It certainly sounds like you do have a zoo in your room. I'd be worried that she will end up the snakes dinner.. I also must admit to grimacing a little when I heard that your bird drinks water from the fish tank. Over time this could make the birds ill. Ricky is gorgeous and obviously was tamed when you found him. (Either that or he was ill?) I love dilutes, they are so pretty and it looks like he likes Trisha too! Feathers.

Thinking About Getting A Budgie But Working Full Time
Hi Faepirate, that looks like a fantastic flight cage. The budgies will be very happy there. I wouldn't worry too much about the sex of the budgies, as without a nest box it is very unusual for them to lay eggs. Not impossible, but unusual. I have around 50+ birds of mixed sex in my aviary and have never had an egg laid in there. The other 20 birds in breeding cabinet, however, are a different story I look forward to seeing the beautiful birds you will acquire. Feathers.
