Lost Flight Feathers ?
Hi Jess, the answer to your question is YES, the flight will grow back again and he should be fine. It seems strange that he is having difficulty flying with only 1 flight feather missing, maybe he is a little sore from the tumble. Feathers.

Chai And Khan
Can do, but I will have to find some "spare time" Kaz, If you got up just 1 hour earlier you could make me a cake if your REALLY wanted to!!! I don't want to hear your excuses and I don't care if you didn't get to bed last night. Is that really more important than making a cake for ME?? Unrelenting pain is just awful, trust me, I know! I feel so much for her. I don't know what they are planning next, but there are some really good pain specialists in Perth, including a great program in one of our major public hospital. Getting a referral to that program would really help in the cost side of things. Two of my pain meds cost $1,400.00 per month and aren't available on the PBS system, so there is no subsidy for them, but getting them through the public hospital all I pay is $5.00 per month, per medication, regardless of what it is. All her treatments would be free as a public out patient. It would also give her access to a whole pain management team, which is essential. I would not be here if it wasn't for my pain psych and as much as I hate it for the pain it causes, my hydrotherapy really helps. The only problem is the waiting list is over 12 months... the only thing good about my condition is that it is treated as an emergency, so I skipped the waiting list. *HUGE hugz* Miss Kaz, Aly now, what was it we were talking about again? Meow

Soaking Wet Budgies
Hey all, thanks for the replies... another scorcher, hotter than the last, so more spraying yesterday.. I resisted the urge to forever capture them at their most embarrassing moment with more photos. They were very happy about that. Hey Liv, you'll find them at your local $2.00 or discount variety store.... they are called skipping ropes, some are even dog toys! You can find actual rope perches made for birds at bird shops... I can even recommend a cheap internet bird shop that has them really cheap. But you can't beat a $2.00 skipping rope, or dog tug of war toy attached with a cable tie (zippy tie). Feathers.

My Ideas On Breeding Birds:
Hiya Norm, I too worry about the over use of medications, not just on birds but humans and all animals kept by humans. Overuse leads to resistant strains or "soft" stock as Kaz mentioned. I believe this is one reason why there was recent regulation on the control of anti pssiticosiss meds. My birds all go through a quarantine process, where they are all treated with ivermectin for mites, worm-out gel for (you guessed it) worms and internal parasites and coccivet for coccidiosis (a common disease carried by budgies). Once they have come through my quarantine process the only things they get are nutritional suppliments, because we can't mimic mother nature and the goodness they naturally get from the land. Still, they do not get these routinely. I give them as much as possible in their diet supplemented with native plant material. At times of stress , breeding (when calcium becomes an issue), moulting (when protein becomes an issue) etc I do use appropriate suppliments. Post quarantine I don't use any 'medication' or 'drugs' unless a bird is sick and requires treatment. Feathers.

Dj's Got An Itchy Eye!
Hi Toffee, feather mites can be seen as black spots on the base of the feathers near the skin. There is also a type of mite that attacks at night time so please treat all the crevices and cracks for mites as well. Feathers.

Budgies And Peppermint Tree Branches
You got the vision right I like it when they trim them, because I can get big branches for my birds to play on, but I don't like it afterwards because I can't reach the branches from my wheelchair to pinch some. I discovered today though, that there are some nice young pepermints growing near the pool I go to for hydrotherapy. I am all set for the next hydro session... I have put secateurs in my bag to cut some off Feathers.

Yf Grey
HEEEYYYYY NEAT... I am really good, thanks for asking. Budgies are all good too The genetics for a YF grey is really easy... you just need a YF bird and a grey... 50% chance that you will get a YF grey from the mix. So throwing a couple of birds together sounds like the way to go. Feathers.

Budgie For Kids Pet
Hi Deb, It is so great to have someone looking for information on the care of a pet before buying it! If you click on this LINK it will take you to a PDF file I wrote called "My New Budgerigar Care Leaflet" (It is down at the bottom part of the page). It gives you lots of information on the right type of cages and nutrition, whether you should get one or more and household hazards. Hope this helps Feathers.

Soaking Wet Budgies
Hi all, We are having a bit of a heatwave here at the moment.. it hit 40 degrees celcius (104 degrees fahrenheit) where I am this afternoon. Definitely the right time for a cooling shower! I filled a 1 litre spray bottle and headed out to the aviary and started spraying. A certain few took up the front row seats in the shower and didn't move, except to turm around or get water under the wings. 1 litre later they were definitely wet! What is cuter than a wet budgie (budgie jelly beans excepted). Here are a few wet budgie pics.. the last photo is just a shot from the aviary with slightly less wet birds. Feathers.
