Hi Briohny I was having the same problem with my Chico, he is coming onto 5 months old now but about 4 - 6 weeks ago he was UNBAREABLE !! and I know what you mean when u say it hurts !! he loves biting our lips and nose but he has calmed down a bit thank goodness, like Boomberry said he is hormonal and u will find he may lose some more feathers than usual too ... its kinda like the terrible two and teething stages in kids I spose ... I learned all of this through the very helpful and way more experienced than me on this site ... most everyone has an answer to everything here re budgies ... its great
  2. hey guys ... well Chico is on my parnters shoulders as I type, he was a little hesitant at first but now he cant get enough of it here is the link Via Ebay, says there is only one left, but I think she makes them herself and they are made to order ... it cost me $15.60 and $4.80 for postage, but worth it she also sells Bird Diapers !! I wrote something about them on another post .... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...41342&rd=1&rd=1
  3. I just recieved this in the mail , its an ebay purchase, and its a shawl with bits dangling off it to wear around your shoulders and for your little one/ones to have their own entertainment centre ! not to mention the fact that you dont get poop on you either ... I cant wait to road test , or should I say Budgie test Chico with it when I get home tonight , here is a pikkie of what it looks like

Doncha just LOVE it when they start chattering away !! congrats to you Our little Chico is only 4 months old and he can not only speak English but Spanish too !! hehehehe , my partner is from New York City but Puerto Rican background and he has taught him a few words .... the day he said "I LOVE YOU" was so cute tho and he also LAUGHS !!! he has this habit of when I laugh, he flies onto my chest and just looks at my mouth and when I move my head from side to side he follows my mouth .... so the other day, we heard this laughter coming out of him, it was amazing .... he freaked my guy out when he landed on the chair behind him ... laughed and then said "I LOVE YOU" toooooo cute !! :dbb1:
  5. Would you believe it if I told you that you can actually get Bird Diapers ??? I am an ebay addict (now going through cold turkey) and I found Bird Diapers on there ... I bought one for my mums Cockatiel and when it was sent to me it was small enough for a budgie ... they are really cute and they sent "liners" as well which were just make up remover pads , but anyway, I found a picture of one, and as u can see it looks like a 1920's style swim suit !! .... it is cute but I havent put chico in it, for the mere reason that getting him IN there would be traumatic for both him and myself .... and his poops arent that bothersome anyways .... but yes, there you have it folks , Diapers for birds
  6. I can imagine how much you are missing your babies .... I have a solution to our holiday probs and that is if we are driving we take chico wherever we go a bit harder though if you are flying ... but he LOVES his holidays with us ... I think sometimes he has more fun !! I hope your little ones arent missing you too much either ...
  7. oh and thanks for the link to that site Lovey, very informative ... have learned a lot from it , thanks so much ...
  8. Hey Cindy ... Yes that could be whats happening with Chicos Brother Lucky , just that time of the their growing cycle ... what do they call it ...?? growing Pains ...?? thing is its mine and my guys PAIN moreso !!! hehehe ... anyways, we still love him to bits but jeeeeeeeeez , our patience is being tested !!
  9. Hey Lovey you said in your post he may be starting to molt too .... I noticed a LOT more feathers around his cage and the house ... and My Partner showed me his two large tail feathers had fallen out too !! is this normal for him to lose those ....??? My Harley lost his two large ones as well but thats when he had cancer .. I would hate to think little chico was sick I actually had to trim a tiny bit off the end of his tail cause the little bugger flew into one of my Xmas baubles I was personalising with Hobby text stuff ... so I didnt want him to preen himself and poison himself so I found the little spot where his tail flew into it, and it was the tiniest trim ... my Partner keeps ribbing me saying THATS why his tail feathers fell off cause I trimmed them !! but I know that cant be the case, I explained that feathers grow back, look at peeps who clip their birdies wings .... but anyways ... so its all part and parcel of their behaviour at this age I take it .... how long does this phase take ...??
  10. Our Little Chico .... OH MAN what can I say !!!! he is EVIL !! but we still love him ... we think he is going through the "terrible two" stage that kids go through , he is short of 3 months old .... he bites our fingers SO HARD and sometimes doesnt let go .... he also has a habit of biting me under my chin and flying on our faces ALL the time .... he even took my nose stud out of my nose the other morning, he was SO QUICK at doing it ... I panicked thinking he would swallow it and he finally dropped it .... I am not sure if we have just spoiled him , like I said we love him to bits but he is really a hand full at the moment is he going to grow out of this ...??? WE HOPE SO !!! My partner feels like he is going be carved up by Chico if he doesnt stop his behaviour .... One thing he does thats SO cute is when I laugh , he flies onto my chest and watches my mouth, and I move my head from side to side and he follows my mouth, not sure if he likes the sound of my laugh or what but thats too cute .... if only he could be angelic like that all the time !!
  11. We just came back from a 4 day trip to the beach in which Chico came with us ... he enjoyed watching the huge crows and magpies on the verandah while in his cage inside ... he also came to the beach with us and sat at a picnic table in his cage while we fed seagulls and LOVED that too .... I figured that if peeps can walk their dogs on the beach, why cant we have our little chico with us !! anyway while we were away he picked up this new cute little sound he often does now ... he never ceases to amaze us :hap: :budgiedance:
  12. hey thanks for the feedback, I had a feeling it may have been a courting kind of gesture , he does do it on his cage as well, so funny u mentioned that ... he has started fluffing his little butt on us as well ... but how are they meant to know... and another thing is with him is he will fly on my or my guys hand and bite the BEJEEZUS out of our fingers...and yet when he flies on our face and pecks around our eye area he is SO gentle .... smart little bugger he is .... Oh another strange thing he did last night was hook his feet up into his ball thingy with the bell on the end of it and the cage, like he was doing some sort of Gymnastics splits kind of thing, and he was like that for ages ... anyways, I thought he was stuck , and when I went to see if he was okay and tried to move him, he got the poops with me !! (Laughing out loud) like a really annoyed little screech thing... he looked SO uncomfortable but he seemed okay after he got down from it .....
  13. A budgie bobs his head up and down periodically , our little chico has started to do this, only the last day or so ... I thought it may be him trying to regurgitate, but I dont think this is the case .... also he has a habit now of flying onto our faces, is this like a dominating kind of thing he is doing ...??? any answers will help !
  14. Thats funny about the regurgitating on the finger cause when it happened with my first budgie I thought it was grose too !! and didnt know what it meant .... then the vet told me with him being male he was courting me ! now I have a new little one "chico" who is about 10 weeks old ... and he is trying to regurgitate but hasnt figured it out yet , but he has figured something else out !! :ausb: (I think he is too young for that for now (Laughing out loud)) we have had him for 4 weeks and from being freaked out in the first week, to flying onto our heads and preening us and dive bombing and stuff its been amazing !! they are so much fun
  15. Hi Jules I am pretty new to owning budgies myself, I am not sure what Pulpitis is but I was lucky enough to get a little one who flew ... we just put our hand in Chico's cage to get him used to our touch and smell too I spose, and he gradually calmed down, then we put our finger in front of him and nudged his belly saying "up" a few times and now he gets on our finger ... he still doesnt land on our head and shoulders but I spose that will come in time ... and we repeat words to him that we want him to learn first ... still no luck there but he is only young .... not sure how long it takes for them to talk , but patience is a virtue ... :hap:
  16. Haha.. as much as I would love to take Chico to work, I'd be afraid he'd get eaten by an errant teenager. Chico's not to keen tonight either. He's currently busy glaring at me. He seems to have little moments where he wants attention, but it's all very much on his terms. He did some biting at me tonight, but I did the pressing back on his beak thing, at which he stopped trying to get me and just looked confused! Hey Jannette, I just bought a little Dominant Sky Blue last week and his name is Chico too !! he settled in much quicker than what we thought, by the third day he was letting us pat his chest, and he even went on my finger when I placed it in front of him .... he is already starting to get his own little personality, he is only 7 weeks old but progressing well ... I had one named Harley that was already 5 yrs old when I got him a while ago, he was FULL of personality and did crazy stuff, but Harley died earlier this year thats why I had to get another .... hopefully Chico will be just as crazy as harley was! :dbb1:
  17. I thought it meant that he was trying to feed your hand like my cockatoo and amazon used to do. Shell hi luvn Couldnt help but respond to this one cause my budgie did the same to me, I aquired him from a friend who had him for 5 yrs, they moved and didnt take harley with them, I have never been a bird person cause I thought if it had wings it should be free.. but when I got him, I fell inlove with him !! and apparently he did me, he was a recessive harlequin so his beak bit didnt show blue but my friend assured me he was, anyway he got sick and I found a bird doctor for a check up, I told him what he was doing as in vomiting on my finger and he said "he is courting you" ooookkk i thought thats cool ... but then he did the fluff thing which I thought was SO cute, but what he left on my finger wasnt so !! so that behaviour does mean that they are in love with u ...harley has since died , he got cancer in his tail bone, apparently 30% of Budgies are cancer factories, (all learned by bird doc) I only had him for 8 months and he had personality PLUS .. so now I am on the lookout for another ...
