One of our budges Simon died yesterday after not feeling himself for a few days. Very runny green poo at first and we also think he got an obstruction through a blocked vent. He died while I was trying to clean him up. Very sad....lovely bird

Hi, We have found that our birds like dandelion leaves. Are there any other garden plants that budgies might like. Some of the books say they can be offered chickweed, but ours do not like chickweed. Lynn

Hi everyone, Some of you have asked about the sex of the three birds. The first trio was two females and a male, the current trio is two males and a female. Both combinations seem to be okay. Just as a matter of interest, we have had an unusual visitor to our garden; an Eastern Rosella. We think he is a male. He seems quite shy. We are not too sure if he is a recent escapee or has been out for a while. Lynn

Hi everyone, Some time ago I asked a question about keeping three budgies together. A number of people replied. We have a thriving community of three birds and havign seen how they relate with one another, I wouldn't go back to keeping two birds again. This is the second community of three birds we have had (two birds having passed away one through old age and one because the vet made a mistake). The birds seem freer to make alliances - which with budgies is frequently! Also they seem lees stressed. We have had no squabbles over food, no pecked feet, just a lot of noise sometimes when they all decide it's evening roost time. Anyway it has been a great success and we intend to keep a community of three. Lynn
  5. Hi, The vert wasn;t an avian vet - they are nt easy to find. Lucy died this evening. We took her to the vet in good faith and it was the worst thing we could have done. Does anyone know of a good vet who is knowledgable on birds in the Croydon area? Thanks Lynn
  6. We have a budgie which has mites. I took Lucy to the vet today and she was given Invermectin by injection. Now Lucy is showing all the signs of overdose, neurological problems, weakness, paralysis, stupor. We have since found a lot of literatutre which says how aweful Invermectin is and how difficult it is to control the dose in birds. I would never allow a vet to inject again. How do we get Invermectin spot treatment that we have read about. This was an otherwise healthy and happy budgie. I am not blaming the vet. Many thanks Lynn
