That was a beautiful tribute to your lovely Tango. I'm so sorry for your loss. :budgiedance:

Loren, your birds are beautiful! Such brilliant colours
  3. That's a great sized cage! Your girls seem very happy in their budgie mansion I need to replace my old cages so I'm trying to figure out what size and style would be best. I have a VERY bossy hen that picks fights with whoever she's in a cage with, even when I leave it up to them to decide who's sleeping where. I keep threatening to put her in solitary if she keeps misbehaving! But maybe something the size you've got is the way to go ...
  4. What a happy family! They look like they're having a great time - good on you for giving them the love and care they were missing
  5. That last shot with Mickey is a classic! He doesn't look impressed with Oz at all
  6. I have five budgies, all different ages from 6 months to 5 years old, and they're all very different in terms of how much they want to play or interact with me. I've found that the more time I spend with all of them as a flock, the better they all are, but I tend to do the same as you and 'retrain' them individually from time to time. Its definitely worse after I've been away but they tend to get used to me within a week after I'm home again. I've been lucky lately in that instead of my more tame budgies getting flighty and nervous when they're all back together, the older, more reluctant birds have taken their cue from the tame ones. I was so excited to have the oldest one finally sit on my hand for the first time last week. Its taken a while to move from hand feeding to that, but it was worth the wait (even though I had huge bite marks where she made sure it was a safe spot to sit!). I think time and patience is the key. I'm sure if I could keep my babies in my office at work with me I'd have a much closer relationship with them all. There's just not enough hours in the day Good luck with taming your flock
  7. Another grey! We must be a wise bunch !

What a sad situation - I'm glad you were there to notice the little one before it was too late, not to mention saving the whole flock. I can't offer advice on caring for the baby but I can share gumby budgie stories with you when you get them all settled Best of luck with it all; you're in the best place to find all the help you need.
  9. :ausb: Heh heh, they're so clever aren't they! I had a similar problem before Christmas; I came home and one cage had only 1 budgie in it instead of 2! One of my babies (only 6 weeks old) had figured out how to lift up the doors over his feed and escaped. Luckily we noticed him before Mitzi the cat did, or it could've been ugly. After I caught the younger bird in the same cage trying to do it as well it was pegs all round! When it was time to hand Hedwig over to his new owner I made it VERY clear how clever he was and for Kyles to be extra careful He hasn't escaped again .. yet! Good luck with the shopping!

Yep, the gang just love these greens the best! I bought a packet of seeds from a nursery a while ago, and every now and then I grow some in a container in some cotton wool and water. I have to admit, I originally grew them to put in my own salad, but when I saw how much the birdies loved them, I tend to give them the lion's share (especially when they got into the container last time - I didn't feel like eating it after it had budgie feet all over it!) Thanks for posting the piccies of the baby greys Bea, they're so big now! And so beautiful too (but I'm biased!) We were over near your place recently and I was thinking about how they were so your post was perfect timing. They've got such a wonderful home with your aviary birds - I couldn't have asked for a better outcome Speaking of the gang, they're all out of their cages at the moment so I'd best get back to check that no-one's being picked on!

Hi everyone! Its been a while since I've had a chance to log on, so its been fun catching up on everyone's feathered adventures over the last couple of days. Thought I'd post some recent pics of my little ones (who aren't really little any more): Petey, and his sister Cinnamon Princess (or Shazza as I like to call her). Isn't he so handsome? What a cutie They absolutely *loved* the snow pea sprouts I grew for them. The good stuff's at the top I love this one where she's trying to pick up the seed in her beak - its far too big but that wasn't stopping her! The best thing about these gorgeous young ones is that because they're so curious and are quite happy to sit on my hand or come over to talk to me, Charlie, the old battleaxe who's resisted my love for the last 4 1/2 years is slowly coming around! Each day its something more - so far its just been a little nibble of my hand, but its better than the flesh tearing chomps I used to get! I love my birds
  12. My latest babies are all grown up and look just like their siblings, Bea's Jenga, Domino and Yahtzee. They even have similiar temperaments! Must have something to do with the order they hatched in Blue boy Petey's not too sure about them though and prefers to keep his distance (unless there's something yummy to chew on, then he's quite happy to socialise ). They're unnamed for now because two of them are going to a new home in a few weeks (although which two I don't know yet!). Jase has a soft spot for the cinnamon wing so she may be staying, but they're all so gorgeous it'll be hard to decide no matter what! Here's the youngest looking cute and festive, and young cinnamon hanging out on the floor with my lovely old Charlie-girl, who's been a bit of a recluse after Mavvy died so she's out of practice with her flying. Can't wait to see them all playing in the Christmas tree when I finally get it up!
  13. Zanthie and Dekota are my favourites, but they're all such beautiful birds

That's gorgeous! I've never seen a bird fall asleep like that - how cute :(Laughing out loud):
  15. I thought that might be the problem too. The picture isn't too clear because of the way it was lying when it died but I turned it over to have a look and it did have food in its crop, although not as much as I'd expect and not as much as the other babies. Ah well, I've been keeping a very close eye on the remaining three and they're all very vocal and getting plenty of food, although the oldest is such a boisterious thing I still worry about the smallest one being trampled. Thanks for your comments and advice, lets hope I don't have to bury another budgie for a long time to come. :angel1:
  16. I just went in to check on my babies and was really sad to see the 3rd baby wasn't moving. It was 10 days old and had died in the few hours since I last checked in on them but I don't understand why. They all looked fine earlier this morning. Paris is a tired but good mum and feeds them all regularly so it doesn't make sense. I've been a bit worried about the oldest chick (17 days old) stomping on the younger ones heads but it just looks like this baby went to sleep and never woke up. I'm in tears and didn't know whether to post this as an ' in memorium ' or breeding issue, but I guess that I didn't really get to know the little guy as a pet yet and something's obviously gone wrong in the nestbox. Its not fair.
  17. If only I'd read this a month or so back I only just posted a message about my Paris who got straight back into things while she still had chicks in the nest. At first I just assumed the eggs would be no good (well really, who has time to mate with 4 babies to feed?!) Silly me. (obviously I'm just an amateur who loves her pets). There's one egg left to hatch but its looking pretty crusty so I guessed its no good, but I'd rather Paris chucks it out herself when she's ready - is this wrong?
  18. Congratulations!! I know exactly how you feel - my little Petey let me scratch his head for the first time a few weeks ago and I was so excited that my husband thought something was wrong! Petey wasn't too keen for a scratch last night but the millet spray bribery arrangement we have seems to be working well :hap: I'd have much more success if I could play with him all day but he's just too noisy (and messy!) to bring into work with me (but wouldn't that be fun )
  19. I'm watching my birds very closely at the moment so I can take the nesting box off as soon as possible. A month or so ago I thought Paris was still feeding her younger babies in the nesting box, but she was actually nesting again. The poor thing hadn't even finished rearing her first four before she started laying more eggs - is this normal??!! I didn't think she'd be so keen to get back into it. Then again, maybe it was her boyfriend Flash that couldn't resist... Anyway the first lot of babies are now between 10-12 weeks old, and her current babies are 1-2 1/2 weeks old. I really don't want any more babies (for now anyway!), not to mention that my beautiful girl is looking really tired and skanky. Where do tired budgies go for a holiday?! :hap:
  20. That's gorgeous! Love the close up ...wish my birds would sit still long enough for me to take some great shots like the ones I see on this site :hap:

Must be the season for it - a bit nasty one turned up at my place on the weekend! Today it was on the balcony looking in at my babies, but on the weekend it was hanging around the backyard when I had the birds outside with me. It wasn't easily scared away either :hap: (...even with my useless cat trying her best to look menacing )
  22. How gorgeous! They really are such pretty birds. They'll love being out in the aviary. It was always an adventure rounding them up to get them back in the cage when they were little; they just loved hanging out together on the curtain rod or harrassing my older birds. Their beautiful blue sibling Petey is doing great. He's tame, but with a bit of an attitude problem that I'm still working on! Some days he'll be my best friend and others he doesn't want to know me - depends how much time he's spent alone with Charlie
  23. Hmm, neither have I ... Is it something you use to supplement their seed and fresh foods?
  24. Here's a picture of my beautiful baby Petey Nermal Chuckles (Petey for short!) calmly sitting on my hand outside of his cage last night for the first time since he was about 5 weeks old (he's only 9 weeks now). I was so excited! He's pretty good in the cage, but gets a bit of attitude if he's been around Charlie all day (she's a cranky old thing, even before she lost her longtime partner Maverick a few weeks back!) And here's what I wasn't planning to find one week after I found homes for Petey's brothers and sister: After reading some other posts about handling babies I thought I'd be brave and pick this little one up this morning - its a week old today and just sooo cute! Poor Paris-Courtney hadn't finished feeding the other bubs when she got cracking and started on these. No wonder she's looking tired! I'll be making sure the nest box comes off before she gets a chance to do this again! Luckily I've already found homes for the 3 that have hatched so far, but I don't want to encourage her to be a baby machine
  25. Hi there! Winter and Stormy are beautiful birds. I have two greys and had a beautiful white boy until a few weeks ago - they're such pretty colours. I found this site fairly recently too and am surprised at how much time I spend here poking around learning things I never knew I should've known - even after having pet budgies for 20 years!
