  1. Well, I've visited the Budgiebird Hilton today and must say I was thrilled to bits to visit this Hilton, it truly is a budgie paradise. I must thank Karen again for opening her home today. If anyone wants to see aviaries and birds all in their splendor. All these birds are beautiful well conditioned healthy beauties. It is a credit to you and yours Karen and hope to visit again one day. Three cheers for the Budgie Hilton
  2. It's okay to breed mother to son, daughter to father, but not sister to brother. Cheers

  5. Hi People, Here in Perth WA we are having some pretty cold weather. So far I have lost 6 babies at about the 2-3 day old mark. It is happening in each of the nest boxes which are all in breeding cabnets in my shed. What do you think? Could it be the cold. They have all the comforts of home, the right seed, soaked oats, egg biscuits, everything has been done as I have done before. This is the first time I've bred in winter, I don't know whats up but it is sad. Paul :budgiedance:
  6. What a great day you must have had everyone looked happy and once again Karen your birds look cool. Cheers Paul

Hi Guys, I have a new Candling Torch For Sale. It is a pen torch whicn is 15cm long with a 25cm flexable end that can bend to shape. It has a Krypton globe which is 70% brighter than normal globes. It has a rubber surround that covers the globe to stop any damage to eggs. These a great when breeding to pick out infertile eggs. $45 Cheers Paul:bluebudgie:

  15. Hi People, The latest news with this bird is starting to look better. This bird was a huge baby, and has a lot of problems that other babies do not have. At 5 weeks it was already alot bigger then the parents, which are both of the larger end of the scale. It could not sit on perches, walk properly and spent most of the time lying on he bottom of the breeding box. Well he or she is now about seven weeks and is showing slow signs of improvement. Each day I spend time help it to sit on the perch (which before it would just fall straight off) and now it can sit by itself for short times. I bring it inside where it exercises it wings but can only fly to the ground. It walks around alot more than before even the it does not stand upright properly. It still has a poopy backside, however I think alot gets stuck on it because it crawls alot. I have now put it in a small flight cage with 3 other babies, feeding itself okay. Heres hoping for the best. Cheers...look forward to your feedbacks.
  16. Thanks for that I will posts some pictures tomorrow, I have also put in a very low perch to encoursge her to start standing instead of laying down, I also have to clean her under belly often because she picks up the droppings as it doesn't walk tall. She does seem to be feeding herself, not a fast eater but I have also seen the dad feed her she doesn't swark but the dad corners her and feed at times. Thanks bliss3bliss for your feedback. Cheers
  17. Hi guys, hope you can help in one of my breeding cabnets I've 2 lovely nice size babies. They are about 6 weeks old, however the lovely grey one is so huge (much bigger than the parents and the are large birds themselves) that it can't sit on the perches it does walk around the bottom of the breeding cabnet but does lay down alot. It has a poopy but and thats been like that all the time. It is a magnifgent bird but I'm worried for its health. I t doesn't look that big in the pics but beleive me for a 6 weel old chick it's big. Will this bird survive........ Cheers people
  18. I think your right it can't fly at all.

Thank you very much for that important infomation Cheers Do you mean this stuff ?? I don't know how you would go with fresh treated pine...this lot has had years before budgies went in there. I do know that they don't chew on it though. I wouldn't drill into it for fear they may nibble on the sawdust from it. I really would worry about fresh stuff that hadnt been sun seasoned for awhile. Obviously the treatment is still in the timber, but I have had no problems with my aged treated timber and the budgies. Ta for that.. yes thats what I was meaning. Your aviary looks awesome. I was thinking wether painting them would help if you used a non toxic paint. I notice you are in perth as well. I live near joondalup so if you are ever selling birds could you let me know. Cheers

Just thinking about extending my aviary. I was condemplating using treated pine 150ml in diam. Has anyone had problems using this pine in construction of aviaries. I certainly would not use smaller pieces that they could chew on, however large diam pine might be okay. Any thoughts on this matter would be most welcome. Cheers
  23. This link wont work for me either
  24. Well I started my breeding season a couple of weeks ago and hoping things will go well. I have introduced a new nesting box design which seems to be going well, they are a larger box. I've made these ones 31cm long, 22cm wide and 18cm high, they have a removable block which is then covered with saw dust, which I find helps in keeping the babies clean especially their feet and around their buts. The boxes have been made to slide out as one unit for easy cleaning and managing. The boxes have an acrylic front with some holes in it them, which enables me to be able to observe the chicks with a minumum of fuss. So I have the main door which you pull up which reveals the acrylic front of the nest box. I have found that this give less stress to the hens when I open the doors to observe, the hens don't immediately jump of the eggs or of the chicks. Because the birds I am breeding are of the larger variety there is plenty of room for the hens to start laying again, so there is lest chance of the chicks causing problems. I hope the pictures I've posted show what I have been describing. The picture of the normal Grey chick is Four weeks old and already the size of its parents to give you an idea. I have also included a picture of my breeding setup. I would be interested in your thoughts. I've put in a picture of my orange faced Pied (orange faced Pied only joking) they all look like this when they have had a good feed of carrots. Cheers.
