  1. The http://www.geocities.com/budgerigarprogram/ has a free verson that holds 200 birds. This is an excellant program that has reports, breeding records etc Many of the varieties and colours are already there in drop down boxes. Charlie
  2. Hi I house Bourkes with my budgies without any trouble. although you need to be careful to give them a whole day of daylight to get used to each other. Bourkes stay active well after dark & budgies may take a day or two to get used to the noise around sleep time. Again like Tiels you need a good size avery. I have 5 Bourkes with 14 budgies. I did house Tiels with my budgies but after I obtained a third tiel I thought they were picking on each other so I seperated them. Charlie

Thanks everyone, I started treating straight away with Dettol Antiseptic which is a little trick I picked up a few years ago. It gets rid of the Scaley Face when you treat every day for a week. Anyway she appears to be responding & is a little happier now. When I took the photos I thought someone would comment on the rust. Be assured I only left her there for about 30 minutes whilest I cleaned out my hospital cage. Charlie

Hi I do regular inspections of my birds but did not see this one coming. I thought this female was in breading condition until half her cere stayed the darker brown & the other half changed back to a flesh colour. Here is some photos. Can anyone confirm that this is Scaley Beak or is it something else? Also sleeps a lot & breathes heavy. Charlie

I have 2 Tiels in an outside cage with 2 budgies. The trouble with Tiels is that unless you are an expert it is so hard to tell if they are male or female. The male tends to talk more. One of my Tiels is hand trained and always comes over for a play when I am changing food etc. I tend to think budgies are smarter and they are certainly the agressor of the two types of birds. And I agree Tiels are big mess makers and I am for ever cleaning up after them.

Thanks for the advice. I will give some of these a go & see what happens. It worries me with ants around when the birds are breeding. Charlie

I have an invasion of ants in my cages. Does anyone know of something that will stop them without hurting the birds. These are outside cages and I clean them regularly. Charlie
  8. Looks great. The last one would be worth framing with the plain background. Charlie

I have never seen a stronger will in a budgie than Chipper. I found Chipper on the ground on the 2nd fairway of the Golf course one day. At the time he looked okay but could not fly very far so I put him in my bag on a very hot day (about 30 degrees Cecilius) We played the rest of that nine holes and I but him in a dark box behind the bar of the club house while i played the second 9 holes. After the game I took him home and placed him in a quarantine cage while I checked him out. What a site. Chipper had scaly beak so bad you could not tell if he was a boy or girl. He had scale on his feet so bad he could not hold on to a perch and he had some deformed and missing toes. He also had a slight case of diarrhea. I treated him for 4 weeks with detol on his scale beak & feet & they healed. Through all this he kept chatting away to the other birds in separate cages. How he survived we will never know. This is a photo just before I let him go in the aviary with other birds. He now has a girlfriend and looks set for a long life. Charlie

Hi from Hervey Bay. I joined this list about a week ago and have spent most of my time reading all the good info. I agree that is a great photo. You will find most digital still camera's today have a movie mode. If you take a movie of the birds flying you should be able to capture one frame as a still photo. My camera does this fine. Now some will be out of focus as they fly fast but keep trying & you will get some pleasing results. Charlie
