Found one of our budgies lying on the floor of our aviary 2 days ago. It looked like it had been attacked as it had a nasty looking cut on the top of its head. Since then it has developed what looks like internal bleeding as both eyes are getting bigger and appear to be filled with blood. The head of the budgie has increased as well. We are hand feeding it but it doesn't want to take much. How it has survived this long god knows. Our local vets cannot do much for birds, has anyone experience3d anything like this before? The bird just lies in its box sleeping but is alive. Is it best to ask the vet to put it out of its misery or is there hope for it?? Don't want teh bird to suffer any more if its too late.......any help/advice gratefully received.

We have had to bring a small baby budgie in from our aviary as the mum has stopped feeding it. It is 3 weeks old but very small (there are 4 others still in the box but they are alot bigger). We have put it in a small box with a light above it so it gets some heat. We are feeding it every few hours waterdowned egg food through a syringe and it seems to be responding. Can anyone advise if what we are doing is right, and if so are there any other things we perhaps should be doing or giving it?

Thanks for the comments, i don't think they are that old and they did breed okay as a pair together with the person whom i got them from. She has started going back into the nest again so i'm hoping that there will be some new eggs soon.....

Thanks for the comments. We have left the eggs a few more days and the mum actually started destroying 1 or 2 of them herself. We removed the others once this started happening and they were all empty... Will the mum start looking to bred again straight away now? This is the first time we have started breeding and currently have 7 babies hatched (3 weeks or younger) from other pairs in our aviary!

Hi, Just joined the forum as we have just started breeding our budgies in our new outdoor aviary (built by ourselves!). We have had some eggs already hatch from 1 pair, however one of our hens is still sitting on her eggs (6 eggs were laid 18th-28th March). Should some not have hatched yet? We are unsure whether to start removing them? Any help would be greatly appreciated from you experienced breeders!
