Well after a night inside bub appears fine! Maybe it was just the cold. He had been fed- he was just fed when I brought him inside last night. I've just put him back in the nest as it's warmer now, and will see how he goes.

I have 3 baby budgies in one nest. 1 fledged yesterday, 1 is about to, but the youngest is skinny and fluffed up tonight, but was fine this morning. Any idea what could be wrong? They are in the outdoor aviary and its getting colder, so I'm thinking maybe thats the problem? I'm going to go out now and bring the little one inside for the night to keep an eye on him and keep him warm.

I thought I'd give an update The 2nd egg was empty, and the 3rd and 4th were dead in shell I am so dissapointed my first attempt ended this way, but these things happen. On a happier note, my other pair have 2 eggs I've been spending alot of time reading up on budgies and breeding, so am prepared this time :hap:

He's gone I went out to check him, but I was too late. She is on three more eggs- so do I assume she won't feed those either(how long after hatching should she feed?)? I am prepared to hand feed- I have hand fed other animals successfully- I know birds are different but I am more than willing to dedicate the time and patience required. Can they be hand fed from hatching successfully? Thanks for the advice Daz, I'm just disappointed I checked back a bit late..

Hi Before I start, I just wanna say yes I am a new to breeding, and didn't fully research, so please don't have a go at me I had my first chick hatch late yesterday/early this morning. As yet, it has not been fed. Should I be worried, or just give them time to become accustomed to the new addition(dad has bred before, mum hasn't)? I am worried as the baby is singing out, and has nothing at all in its crop. Thanks in advance
  6. I am one of those people with a few budgies(4), and am currently awaiting the arrival of my first clutch. And yep, I came here and asked for advice! Not because I don't know about budgie care(I have had budgies almost all my life and remember helping mum breed them when I was a child), or because it's a case of 'whoops, my birds did the deed now what?', but because I suck at genetics and wanted to know that side of it, plus incubation time from experienced breeders(because everything I have read says different things!) I went out and purchased a breeding box knowing full well what would happen, not just for the sake of it. I am also not breeding for money- I also breed rodents and know full well that there is no money to be made in animal breeding, every cent I get for my rodents goes straight back to them, be it food, cages or vet bills! I intend to keep every bird that hatches- we are fortunate in that we own our property and have the room for our aviaries, and the time and money to spend. I won't be breeding all the time- I am removing the boxes after this clutch then may breed again when their young are old enough). I don't see any animal as a throw away pet- I have and have had numerous animals and each one is treated like the living creature they are, not a disposable play toy that so many seem to think of their 'pets'. okay, I'm just raving on now...

Hi All, I have 2 pairs of budgies, and the first pair started laying on the 13th, and she is now sitting on 2 eggs. This is her first clutch- is it normal for her to only have 2? And how long are the incubated for? I am not a complete fool so don't need a lecture about studying before attempting to breed- I have had budgies my whole life and bred them when I was younger(along with my family), but just can't recall incubation or ever having a clutch so small. Oh, any websites about budgie colours and genetics? Besides any info I find on this one? As I am so impatient to see these chicks, if all goes to plan and they hatch, I'd be interested in a prediction of colours(sorry, I bred rats and mice and like to know what to expect (Laughing out loud) ). I don't even know what to call the parents- the hen is yellow with faint white wing markings, the cock is blue with a white head and wings. Thanks!
