  1. well from what I have gathered from this forum my hen is indeed a poorly marked spangle, whether the white cheek spots are cause by pied or spangle I dont know, but I went back and found the post about my hens cheek spots from back in april. here are a few quotes from that thread; http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....wtopic=9295&hl= anyway about the chicks pied patch, I know I have seen DF dom. pieds with recessive pied markings, but is it possible to get a DF dom pied from australian dom. pied and clearflight dom. pied?, I am sure that a bird can carry both genes but what would that be visually? Chick #3 is mostly white with a few blue flecks on her abdomen, a blue rump(thats just between the flights around the oil gland) and a blue bib across her chest and back.
  2. I meant the lack of barring, I've never seen a dominant pied marked the way she is, I've seen them with a pied patch that goes from one eye to the other but she has some barring that divides the pied patch into 3rds(is that is indeed what is causing the bare facial area), I will try to get a better picture with my film camera and post when I get the film developed.
  3. what color is the barring on his wings? in the first picture the top of his head looks green which makes me think opaline
  4. I reserve the right to change my guess on mutation.. just because they are so young. Shadrach; dominant pied opaline, and the feathers on the wings look white so maybe a blue. Meshach; looks normal to me Abednego; I see little black dots on the back so I dont think he's opaline.
  5. #1 left the box yesterday, he spent the day out and went back in before lights out, and he was back out this morning. #2 hasn't left the box yet.
  6. she's a YFT2 dominant pied opaline(probly spangle as well) hen, Sire is an opaline australian dominant pied sky blue, dam is a YFT2 clearflight dominant pied spangle(poorly marked) greywing. I am just curious if maybe this isn't cause by the two different pieds? she is aweful cute and I may just keep her.
  7. chick #3 has white cheeks, I know white cheek spots can be caused by the spangle gene, but how about a lack of barring behind the eye? Sorry for the picture quality, it's very hard to get any decent pics from a web cam, all pics were taken 5 mins ago.
  8. do you mean you want to remove it from the nest, and take over feeding?
  9. have you candled to see if they are still alive?
  10. Just a touch of blue on the wings. well then she may be an opaline as well.
  11. I agree 1st and 2nd are opalines
  12. Nerwen, I had the same idea about a care sheet, you are welcome to read mine, may give you a few good ideas. http://www.angelfire.com/indie/budgies/bc.html my diet list http://www.angelfire.com/indie/budgies/diet.html both need some work but no one I have asked is willing to give me input.
  13. now for a step back in time.. #'s 3 and 4 's Fall picture # 1's Fall picture # 2's Fall picture #1 with #4 #2 with #3 group shot!
  14. am I seeing things or is there body color on the wings/in the barring?
  15. do you still call them spots even though it's just a faint lacing on the edge of the mask feathers? my male chick has a spot on either side and the lacing. I'm just confused as I've never seen chicks before now with markings like this on the mask. :ausb:
  16. I edited your picture so you can sort of see what I mean. it's real light lacing on the mask, I wasn't breeding this past clutch for spangle, but I would have been happy to get one.
  17. there's clearflight pied and austrailian pied. clearflight pieds can have some clear plumage around the neck but the body should for the most part be solid, this is the difference between the two. Austrailian pied; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rouenduck/boidie4.jpg Austrailian pied wing markings(he's opaline as well): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...ck/MVC_016S.jpg Clearflight pied; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...littlegirl6.jpg Clearflight pied wing markings: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v215/rou...tlegirl2rsz.jpg
  18. daz, are mask bars common with spangles? my yellowface sky blue chick has faint bars on the mask and a few on the rump area, he's a visual normal though, and he's lacking most of the forehead bars, my hen(the dam to the chick) is a poorly marked spangle.
  19. some pics of #1 and #2 with better lighting. #2 has 2 blue tail feathers on the side, thats the only way I can tell her and #3 apart. #2 with my finger in her mouth again, she's likely a yellowface type II as her tail feathers and some of the wing feathers have a yellow tinge.
  20. well I took the film to get developed and the store sent me home with the wrong CD, so.. I took a couple with the web cam, they aren't anywhere near as good as the film camera pics are but it's all I can supply for now. #1 normal blue yellowface. #2 knawing on my finger, yellowface dominant pied opaline #'s 3 and 4, Same mutation as #2 #2's wings, all 3 of the opaline pieds have almost exact the same wing markings.
  21. I just finished a roll of film the other day, just need to find the time to get it developed.
  22. Dingo replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
very cute, they look alot like my 4 except in color, yours all have more black on the beak/cere than mine do. your #1 looks like a violet yellowface to me. your #2 looks like a normal sky blue greywing to me. I think the last two will look like #2 am I seeing things or are they really yellowface? thats kind of funny because my #1 is a normal blue yellowface and the my #'s 2, 3 and 4 all look the same.
  23. Thanks Thirtyfive Black. well, #2 is a normal blue yellowface cock, # 2 I believe has white on her belly so.. sky blue, opaline dominant pied yellowface hen, and #' 3 and 4 seems to be the same as #2, one of 'em may still come up to be a clearflight pied, belly feathers haven't really started yet on the last 2. #1 is the sweetest #2's has begun learning that biting is fun! #3 is probly going to be a nipper, like #2 #4 seems to be the calmer of the hens, that may change though. #'s 3 and 4 are two weeks old as of yesterday and today, #'s 1 and 2 will be 3 weeks old on the 3rd and 4th
  24. are you sure he doesn't have some sort of avian epilepsy?
  25. Thanks »-(¯`Una´¯)-» #3 is starting to get grey like #2 has so s/he is more than likely a pied as well, I'm not sure what exactly #1 is coloring out to be. this is a picture of #2 at 5 days old just before his/her eyes opened.
