  1. he he...I have delectible budgie hands It's just Anthony, everyone has all that...but I guess it's that Anthony is just extremely happy to be with other birds and have some freedom. He was never let out of his cage before he came to our house. I think he's just totally overstimulated right now and in time he will calm down..but everything is so wonderful and new and there's all these birds and people and flying...
  2. I've posted this video (hope it's working) to show him in the "act" but I couldn't stop giggling.
  3. Really cute! First one looks like my Monkey Bird. Your budgies are both beautiful!
  4. okay now the toes would freak me out! Don't think I could handle that at all....ewww
  5. Hi One of the other topics prompted me to inquire about a harmless but weird behavior that one of my budgies, Anthony, has been showing lately. We got Anthony from the Humane Society and he's about 3-4 years old and throughout his quarantine when I'd be trying to get him tamer, he would bite viciously. He drew blood. We were concerned he'd hurt the other budgies but it turned out to be quite the opposite and he's very happy and well adjusted with the other birds. As a matter of fact, he's crazy about another male budgie, Monkey, and the two are inseparable and groom each other, exchange food and one cannot be without the other. The latest weird and embarrassing thing Anthony has been doing is instead of trying to bite me like he used to, I can pick him up and he's absolutely in love with my hand and refuses to get off of his own accord. He fluffs up, gets all bug-eyed and starts wiggling his butt on the back of my hand or fingers along with nibbling and cooing. I have to actually get him over to a play stand perch and gently push his belly towards the perch to make him step up on it and get off my hand. I aught to get a video of this, it's too funny. I was getting paranoid it was just my hand so I made my boyfriend pick him up...turns out it's hands..doesn't matter whose. Does anyone else have such a gay and hand-loving budgie? http://maureena.net/Images/Anthony.wmv
  6. I'm glad for this post...I feel a little relieved. My Anthony and Monkey are totally in love and inseparable and there are 2 females around but they don't care one whit.
  7. Oh they are a lot of fun...the word around here is DUCK!
  8. Here are some in flight pics...one all 7 of my birds bolted... (Anthony chasing Monkey) (all 7 hanging out on their window perches) (Anthony & Monkey sitting this one out) (Anthony) (Jada and Bluie free falling) Berdie and Jada
  9. Hi I have a smaller travel cage for such trips. Make sure all the doors and entries are tied down securely though. MJ
  10. awwww...so sweet. I only have 1 out of 7 that will let me do that. The rest will take a swipe at me if I try..he he

Hi Briohney...welcome! You've come to a great place. Hope someone here can advise you soon. Congrats on deciding to get a budgie!
  13. oooooh I love the pics...that first one especially!!
  14. It's a scary prospect isn't it...my three are finished their quarantine and I moved their two cages in beside my larger aviary and there was a lot of interest in the new guys. I intended to just leave them all in their separate cages and introduce them slowly, allow them out to play together. But after they had played together for two days, I let them all go together in the same aviary. There were a few perch squabbles last night concerning who was sleeping where, but mine did that all along every night anyway. Other than that, they were all fine together.

    oh they are so pretty!!
  16. Ahh...perhaps I have hope then that Alex well get into the act soon!
  17. Thanks for all the comments! Anthony is extremely excited to be around other budgies and he's extremely active and chases everybody right now. Which I guess is good as far as them getting their exercise...he keeps everyone on their toes. He's also a biter...nasty one. But I'm hoping over time he'll forget about chewing up humans. It looks like Caesar and Alex have never been allowed out of their cage before, nor does it seem they were ever handled. It's been a lot of work just to get them this far where I can even get them outside of the cage. They can't fly well and they can't land well...but I do notice improvement. They probably didn't know that they could fly and I think they are a bit overwhelmed by all the activity of my other birds who are quite insane as far as noise and abrupt take offs and landings...you know how it is..one moment everybody is sitting still on the perches calmly and then they all bolt leaving you to wonder how they all knew to go at the same time...what was that signal...was it a look? Caesar will at least fly around a bit and he's learning from the other birds where to land etc., but poor Alex refuses to budge from the play stand. She will just sit there and watch. And she's the one who needs excercise the most, she's a whopping 52 grams. Thanks, Maureena
  18. I was finally able to take some photos of the budgies that I got from the Humane Society. And also photos of everybody. This is Anthony (pale blue) that I got from the Humane Society and my Monkey Bird. They were crazy tonight: This is Alex, I got her from the Humane Society: This is Caesar, also from the Humane Society: All 7 of my birds: Assorted pics:
  19. Oh they are all awesome..great photos!

Oh boy, can I empathize on this! One of mine, Anthony, who I rescued, is absolutely vicious. No problem to get him back in though...I just draw the curtains to make it a bit darker, get everybody else in their respective accomodations...and then pick him up and then he doesn't bite. But oh, if I tried that with full lighting and everybody out...my hands would be chopped liver! Good luck!
  21. Hi everyone Just an update. I received my megabac-s and have started treatment as of yesterday. I feel I'm better safe than sorry by treating everyone for the 10 days before I put them all together out of quarantine. The other three budgies that belonged with Cleo are almost up with their quarantine of 6 weeks and none of the three have shown any symptoms. But I think I will make their quarantine until at least the end of the treatment time before I gradually introduce them. After that, like Daz said, I will use apple cider vinegar as an ongoing maintenance. I weight everyone almost daily lately, but I'm a little paranoid right now. Then to make matters that much worse, Berdie, my little white female, her xanthomas have come back...she now has two small ones. They aren't ulcerated and I'm watching her closely. Trouble is, since quarantine, Berdie's flight has been limited to one room flying instead of free flight across the house. So hopefully, soon as quarantine is over, we'll chase her around more. TTFN
  22. thank you all. I'd really like to hear from someone who uses/used megabac-s. Thanks for the tip on apple cider vinegar, I have a supply and it's a good idea for maintenance but right now I need to be more aggressive.
  23. Hi again everyone This is a request for advice. Cleo's necropsy report came back and the vet told me it was megabacteria. Cleo and the other 3 budgies which I had got from the Humane Society were quarantined from my other 4 birds in a separate room. The vet's advice was to watch them all closely and weigh them regularly and watch for any changes. I don't think this is aggressive enough and I want to order a supply of megabac-s and treat every bird in the house. Please, any advice on this? Am I safer treating them all even if they do not have any symptoms, rather than be sorry later when it is far too late?
  24. my buzz me a lot...I think they greatly enjoy it
  25. Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes. This has been very difficult for me and aside from my BF and you folks on here, there are very few people in my life who understand the depth of pain this has caused. It was extremely difficult and heart-wrenching to watch this little guy dying in my hands on the way to the vet. Most people that I know, don't understand spending money like I did and certainly don't understand the depth of feeling that I have. Even my friends who have cats and dogs, who should understand how I would feel, don't get it. But I have been down this road before with other pets, and I would do everything in my power to care for them. I firmly believe if you bring an animal into your home, that is your responsibility to make sure that animal has the best life you could possibly give it. I am very fortunate in the fact that my boyfriend is as emotional about the budgies as I am. He felt the loss as much as I did and he cried on the way home from the vets.
