    Welcome
  3. You dont put a nesting box in a communal cage unless you want fights, bloodshed, smashed eggs and injured or killed chicks. You dont put a nestingbox in any cage where any of the budgies are under 12 months of age. Males are not used as a stud service to three females. One only male to one only female as the male is m,eant to care for his female and all the babies all the way through. You dont breed any new budgie you buy as they need time to settle in and get used to everything...and again I say they must be over 12 mo0nths. If you arent sure of their ages wait long enough till you can be certain they are over 12 months. Breeding budgies isnt all about a boy and a girl and a nestbox. You need to have them long enough ( once they are over 12 months ) to be sure you have prepared them by putting them on the very best diet in readiness for breeding. With so many gaps in your knowledge so far, it may pay to be patient, wait, research and ask lots of questions here about anything you arent sure of. Welcome to our forum. Can we see a photo of the cage and your boy ?
  4. I agree with GB...............quail need ground and soil and sand floors not grids. Those cages aren't the best either. The quality is pretty bad. I have seen some of those ( after a year ) with rust and those cages werent even outside in the elements. Roof on those wont keep budgies from getting wet. If you enclose it to fix that you defeat the object of having an outdoors aviary and the birds lose important airflow too. Dont get me wrong, birds cannot be wet outside as it brings diseases like coccidiosis. The thing is most of the cages that are sold with wheels are cheap construction and also the wheels even seize up before too long and they will no longer wheel along. Then the wheels hardly ever are replaceable as the construction mostly doesn't allow for replacements. If you are handy and it seems you are. Why not plan for something bigger and better and just buy materials and see what you can acchieve ? Or a proper aviary off ebay. Wider rather than taller being the best way to go. Happy to help you search Set a budget and your general location and we can hunt for you.

hi Dario Welcome to our forum
  6. He will do it while the mood takes him. How long for is anyones guess. Even female budgie hump objects ..... You will have to just ignore it
  7. Are you sure you saw an actual AVIAN vet or a vet who just said he sees birds a lot ? The hen could be an internal egglayer and have had an egg yolk she has since absorbed back into her body. Internal egglayers are at risk of egg peritonitis. Possibility.
  8. yes i wanted to do that how do i change it? Click on your profile and choose settings and then down the left of the page it gives you an option to change your user name
  9. Suggest you change your user name
  10. Just an update. I have moved into the new house and am busy both unpacking boxes and also doing leadlight work. Birds have settled in really well. They are pairing up in the aviary and I may put some pairs down to breed after the weekend.
  11. I certainly hope you guys over there arent about to get one of those horrid mouseplagues that have happened before
  12. Sounds like a plague and I'll bet they are breeding up in numbers in that woodpile too. I understand your frustration. I wouldnt stand for mice running through like you have. I would do all I can to stop it too. Its stress for the birds as well as contaminating their food source too. Bad news all round.
  13. Please clarify the size of your aviary
  14. How can we help you Splat ? Can you post photos of the aviaries so we can help you problem solve ? Any gap 10-12 mm will let mice in
  15. Because its recessive it can.
  16. Good and mature decision Maddy Her cere also looks like its soon to peel as well, to show she's not in breeding condition.
  17. Well that mousetrap catches multiple mice at the same time. Its good
  18. Bumping up my recommended mousetrap
  19. but have you covered the front of the cages ?? or are they behind a proper door ? As we so often advise no birds outside without supervision........this is no different ..........birds in cages in the yard are at risk of a cats paw reaching through, rat attack, and butcher birds and the like. At least in an aviary they can get away from the front of the aviary in most cases but in a cage like that they are within reach of predators.
  20. Pegs are to stop escapes. Predators will get at those birds as the front of the cages are not protected.
  21. I was at our avian vets one day when a man raced in with his dog in his arms. Snakebite. The worst part of this was he had brought his other dog in just an hour earlier from snakebite. He went home to find the second dog had been bitten as well. When we had the dugite in our yard the dogs went for it and it was their unusual barking sound they made that alerted me to the fact they werent after a mouse this time. Lucky for us the dogs werent bitten. Snakebusters came out and removed the snake after I made a phonecall. The thing with our aviaries is...............too many aviary owners dont think of the mesh going to the ground and the mesh is usually widthwise across 25mm wide by 12 mm deep gaps in the mesh. Mice get through this and so can snakes. I always now make sure there is metal from 2-3 ft high all around the mesh aviaries by adding it and screwing it or pop rivetting it on. I have the metal to do the new aviaries and will acchieve it really soon. Mice running through aviaries is stress and disease causing as some of us know. Not everyone thinks about modifying their aviaries to stop it being mesh all the way down to the ground. With my flights and aviaries back in the house we are selling NO MICE got in once it was done. So cool
  22. Rats and mice breed in woodpiles......the snake will be there after them. Its when he runs out of food you have to get worried. BUT since you have a dog and since you lost the dog before to snakebite, you have every reason to be concerned.
  23. They look nice ....good price too PS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no pegs on those doors and open to attack from predators...........take care, Think of EVERYTHING !!!!!
  24. Possibly melanistic spangle as well use the search function for melanistic spangle...we have topics on here. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=15339 http://www.bcv.asn.au/Melanistic%20Spangle.pdf
