  8. QUESTION My bird just laid eggs, only have one so shes on her menstrual cycle and..? i know i need to feed her calcuim supplements or she may end up dying or having a shorter life, what foods are calcuim supplements and why is she sitting on them like theres babys inside? why does she think theres babys in her eggs? 3 hours ago Report Abuse MY ANSWER Veronica..............if you believe birds have ,menstrual cycles then you havent a clue about breeding birds and you should stop what you are doing right now !!!!! You have major gaps in your knowledge and its time to take a few steps backwards and do some study. AND THE BEST ANSWER SHE CHOSE Alice Morgan Best Answer - Chosen by Asker actually the person above me is wrong, birds do have periods during the warm months. if your bird is laying eggs without a mate then she is on her menstrual cycle. her eggs won't be fertilzed though. its disappointing how a "bird expert" doesn't know this about birds. Source(s): currently has 10 birds, used to have more... professional vet 12 minutes ago Report Abuse 0 Rating: Good Answer0 Rating: Bad Answer Asker's Rating:Asker's Comment: your right!!!! a vet told me that my bird is on her menstrul cycle and that the eggs are infertle as well http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArAWFQvbFxRnY5FyO6qNF1zsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110616172552AAvJJLP and another QUESTION My parakeets nose is white? My girl parakeet used to have a pink nose. As she was supose to. But today, I saw her nose. And it is very noticably white. What does this mean? Is she okay? Is she going to lay eggs? HELP QUICK!!!! ANSWER yes, she is okay, it is okay for a female bird to change colours, some females, even change to blue, purple, light blue, a female isn't going to lay eggs, unless she has mated with a male, or she is old enough to have period, but only a few has period. if you see that she is losing feathers then she is probable molting. Source(s): bird owner of many birds includes parakeets or budgie or buderigar, lovebird, cockatiel 2 weeks ago MY ANSWER Best Answer - Chosen by Voters Its irresponsible for anyone to advise putting a nestbox in cage at this point. A white cere ( not nose ) is a sign the bird is not in breeding condition and not healthy enough to be breeding. These are times you do NOT add a nestbox. A female budgies cere will change colour on a cyclic basis through the year depending on her state of health, and if she is coming into or out of breeding condition. ****Birds do not have "periods" ! An owner of many birds should know this to be FACT.
  9. Hi and welcome We arent in to telling people they are evil However, with advice most of us are straight shooters and will tell you like it is for the bird's sake But could you try again with the photo as it didnt work. Theres a link in my signature on how to post pictures....give it a try.

    Welcome
  11. I agree with Splat......hen is usually the case as its a sex linked gene, but could be a male if both parents were opaline or Mum opaline and Dad slit for opaline. So a front of clear cere shot and we can tell you what sex for sure
  12. Welcome
  13. Breeding cages are best housed separately to your aviary. Most people set up a breeding room or space from a shed or room thats suitable.....leaving budgies in the aviary to fly and have fun and you then select the breeding pairs from the aviary to put together in your breeding cabinets. Trying to have breeding cabinets in an aviary and spare budgies flying about wont work out.
  14. I agree with Maesie.................... and whats the point in you ordering online meds which are not specific to what ails this bird. This bird is WAY OVERDUE for a proper veterinary diagnosis. If you were to go on your course of action its no different to doing what your friend did by buying over counter meds and treating at random. You will not buy meds online for megabacteria or canker.
  15. Sorry to say this but I think she is lying about taking the bird to the vet.
  16. Considering all the variables that makes breeding successful.............you thinking its all about cabinets is so far wide of the mark its not funny. This isnt about cabinets.
  17. Rats and mice can climb up walls, especially brick ones. And they can leap quite a way. The injuries to the bird is exactly what a rat would do. Sorry for your loss
  18. Your friend has faith in over the counter petshop medications when she should be taking her bird to a decent avian vet. Not all generic medications fix everything. The bird could have canker or it could have megabacteria. Both of those require specific meds to fix it. Tell her to stop wasting time ( which birds dont have once they show signs of being ill ) and stop wasting money on pet shop meds and stop believing that pet shop staff know what they are doing ( because they dont ) and get along to a vet who can take some swabs of the crop and ascertain the correct diagnosis and get the bird medicated for what it ACTUALLY has and not guesswork.
  19. I agree..............female. Cage looks small ? Also remove the mirror ( does their head in and affects their mental stability ) and the grit ladder is not a good idea also.
  20. I agree with GB about not letting this one go and thats why I asked if you had another bird to sell. Chances are high this one will go backwards when it leaves for its new home. When they have a start in life like this one has they need careful watching by an experienced eye not a new owner.
  21. Preening not pruning. Pruning is for trees As fas as antibiotics goes....you can use betadine on birds, but there is also a dry anitbiotic powder you can get from chemist shops called Medi Pulv that you puff into wounds too. Some people use that mercurochrome too. The cheesy gunk cant be allowed to build up. Firm pressure at the base of where it is will push it out and then you medicate the hole where its coming from.
  22. Updated catalogue.............new link in first post.
