  3. " The Fancy " doesnt sit right with me either and I feel the same way you do. I call it a hobby and would be dead in my grave before the words the fancy came from my lips LMAO
  4. As Dave said.........a photo was requested
  5. Pet store staff are notorious for bad information. Please read an article in our FAQ section called Care of Baby Budgies in the Nest. It may help

So who is looking after the chicks ? They arent 3 weeks old Fero.
  7. This will keep you out of mischief for awhile Dave Best of luck with your breeding

Fero...........read this topic http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=13358 and KNOW that you do need to nestcheck twice a day ( morning and night ) once you have chicks in a nest. You nestchecking is not why your previous mother rejected chicks. A mother too young may not feed her chicks. A mother who is colony breeding can be prevented from feeding her chicks. A sick mother wont feed her chicks. As a responsible bird owner and breeding, you NEED to be nestchecking to prevent things like dead chicks ion nests, splayed legs, build up of food in the beaks, poop setting on feet etc. No excuse not to be checking your nests if you are breeding. If you havent learnt this important and vital part of being a breeder you should not be breeding.
  9. The first three budgies ( left to right ) in the top photo are over 10 months and may be 12 months. The end one seems a lot younger. By the way it isnt a lutino its a yellowfaced albino ( also known as a creamino ). 2nd photo..........bird number two and four from left to right are younger also.....the crested seems to be a baby.
  10. Welcome CheekyBudgies Good to hear your common sense prevailed over the bad bad advice of the person who sold you the budgies and advised you about breeding. Please make sure you never have any nestboxes anywhere where an underaged budgie is, and do read our article on colony breeding for extra assistance Here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=28294&hl= If in doubt over the age of your budgies.....post clear front on photos of ceres and some close up shots of iris rings( eyes ) and we should be able to advise. Cheers Kaz
  11. I still think she has french moult.
  12. She can be a pet of course but if she cant grow flights and tail she may die by jumping off a lap or person and landing badly as they do. They dont seem to know they cant fly or save themselves sometimes. Parents seem to have attacked baby in the nest to be rid of it for laying again but babies who suffer french moult will drop flights an tail overnight in the box too. Hard to know in your case which happened first. Chicks can lose flights and tail due to stress, but the fact its bleeding when new flights are trying to grow in says to me...french moult in my experience. If it was me giving a gift of a bird to someone, I wouldnt give a bird with issues.
  13. She is a french moult budgie. What made you think at fledging that it was the parents that made her drop her flights and tail. Dropping them is the sign of a french moult budgie especially at that time. Also when a lot of them try to grow new ones in they break off and bleed.. You have a french moult budgie. You had best choose another to tame.

Note Amy had a lock on the aviary but it was smashed off. If someone wants to get in they will. If they have the time and a pair of cutters they will just open the mesh. I have shared some facts with Amy via facebook about a bird thief in Perth. Sad is.........Amy feeling like she should give up over this heartbreak.

Well thanks Kaz, it's hard when there is conflicting advice around, my vet said it could kill birds if it's not the right mix , so rather than people losing birds I thought it better to warn people. I'll have to read up on Nubbly's posts to work it out further. I bumped up Nubblys topic for you
  20. A WORD OF WARNING GUYS. JUST CHECKED WITH MY VET TO MAKE SURE .IVOMECTIN FOR BIRDS IS BROKEN DOWN WITH OTHER THINGS, THEY DON'T USE POUR ON IT'S A DIFFERENT ONE SO YOU COULD KILL YOUR BIRDS IF YOU USE POUR ON. Please check with an Avian vet before using it. Robyn...........any advice dispensed by Nubbly re pour on ivermectin will be correct info. I believe she has done a topic on this. It is her field of expertise. Dont panic based on the info you obtained from your vet.

If a hen is in the habit of nibbling on her chick in the nestbox, I provide millet sprays in the nestbox and a block of safe wood to chew. If she gets to the point of severe enough to draw blood I look for another nest to foster chicks to.
