Grey green opaline spangle hen Dilute ? or greywing ? hen Cinnamon opaline grey hen grey green opaline hen and youngest and Omelette's two grandchildren
  2. As others have said they should be fine, especially if sheltered from cold winds. Very important is if you get any water come in on the ground, to put a course of coccivet in their water to prevent coccidiosis....only if the floor gets wet.
  3. She would be about 9 months. What is her name ? :offtopic:
  4. Any white on a budgies cere including if its with blue, means female. A lot of "breeders" still havent worked that out. A great many people think any blue on a cere means boy. But anyway, you have the prettiest FEMALE budgie :offtopic: Breeding condition YES....breeding age NO.
  5. A recessive pied budgie will NOT get an iris ring.

Fingers crossed then. About the opaline...I know you didnt say opaline. I brought it up because its usually associated with flecking
  9. Hi Kush and welcome. Unfortunately, the problem lies in the way you are trying to breed your birds...you are doing what is called colony breeding and it is the hardest way to breed budgies. The females are not throwing out their own eggs. Other females are choosing the nest another female is laying her eggs in. In choosing the other females nest they then set about "cleaning it out" ready for their own use. Cleaning it out means throwing out any eggs in it. If there was chicks in the nest they would be killed and thrown out too. They need twice as many nests as there are pairs of birds. The cage for 14 breeding budgies would need to be HUGE...more an aviary rather than a cage. Best and safest way to breed birds is to have a cage they live and play in with no nests and remove a pair to a seperate cage to breed....just two budgies with one nest in a seperate cage. There will be less stress on the birds and less deaths and broken eggs this way. Stress means sickness to birds...they get ill with stress and stress is breeding and stress is fighting for competition for nests and space and over partners. How old is your baby boy ?

Are you sure he is dom pied spangle ?? Are you aware that spangles often have a patch on the back of their head due to earlier pied involved in their breeding many many moons ago If you think he is dom pied just becasue of the patch then you may find he is really just a spangle with the "spangle patch" . QUOTE>>>>>>>>>>Another anomaly is the appearance of Spangles with the head patch, similar to that of the Dominant Pied variety, further indicating that a link between those two varieties might exist. http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/specialist/spang/spghalib.html QUOTE>>>>>>>>>>>Another problem we are facing with some Spangles in their appearance with a Dominant Pied head patch. Although history tells us that Pieds were involved in the Spangle production, the Colour Standards has made no allowance for history unfortunately. So should Spangles with head patch win on the show bench because of the bird's quality? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/k_jones/clwyd...gle_variety.htm PS By the way..........he is gorgeous

three eggs so far to this pair I like this pairing, Kaz, especially the grey normal. Hope you get some good chicks. Will the potential flecking show after the first mault in the chicks? Ah, just read the rest of the post. It's a shame to have only 1 chick this round. Hope you have more success next time - but you know what they say about the best pairs being the most difficult to give you chicks. Chick quantity is inversely proportional to the cost you paid - the more expensive - then the better the bird - the less chicks that you always seem to get (in my humble opinion anyway) Oh well.........as long as the chick turns out...thats the main thing. Its a little grey HEN Here she is and her name is UNO ( means one in ITALIAN....my family heritage ) and her mum watching me..........
  16. There really is no way to tell how much time it will take. They are all different. Distraction therapy as suggested may be your only way.
  17. Good to know...you can also cut the perch section off.

I have found a tiled floor in the birdroom makes cleaning up so much easier, less dust etc. Love my tiled floor

She didnt actually have any flecking and she isnt opaline. Its just that when I got her she was a baby just out of the nestbox so she had barring not flecking.
  20. Dave is right. I currently have one flight as I am amidst rebuilding. I will then have two flights nearly 6 m by 2 metres each. I will not be seperating male and female. I will have a youngsters flight and an older birds flight.
  21. NEW NEWS There is a whole lot of opaline spangles coming through now that have normal spangle markings in them. It is not widely known apart from show breeders who talk of it and its a very well known new development. I have a few as does other show breeders. It confuses people as they dont expect the black spangle markings though the wings when its an opaline so they think it isnt one when it is. The moult has made it clearer thats all. Here is one of my opaline spangle babies
