Breeding Pairs 2009
How many days between these two ? Looks like Mum is plucking the down off the youngest too Dave, put plenty of millet in the nestbox to distract her. Thats what Omelette does too.

Breeding Pairs 2009
That albino baby is very very nice Dave. Can see directional feather and that longer furrow of feathers going out and over the eye like an eyebrow going back to the back of the head ...................one way to get a Cec Gearing albino, they sell for $500 to $1000 upwards and the waiting list is 2 years

Eggscelent....
Girrawheen is still as you remember it But this club may be moving to same premises as the metro budgie club soon....bayswater. One of the hazards of colony breeding is, although a hen lays eggs in her nestbox, others in the aviary can stop her from returning to her nest and eggs. She can want to be a good mother, but other birds can prevent this

Hi All
Aviary.......fantastic Unfortunately what isnt fantastic is adding Foofie to an aviary with other birds that have not been quarantined away from each other. Also if the aviary comes with nestboxes.......Foofie will breed at too young an age merely by the presence of the nestingboxes. Foofie needs to be removed from the aviary. Foofie is still young and has not built up any immunities yet, and the new birds could be carrying hidden disease, despite what the neighbour may have said. Sorry to burst your bubble Putting birds together with no quarantine is bad bad news.

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
If you pair a greywing cock to a dilute hen or a normal hen split for dilute, you can produce greywings in the first generation, and this is because greywing is dominant to dilute. If a Greywing is paired to a Dilute all the chicks will be Greywings but split for Dilutes.

Hi Brett and welcome Good to have you here. We have a few show breeders on here who live up your way. You will find though if you are planning to breed show types then you would be best breeding them in breeder cabinets and not colony style in the aviary. When you need to know for sure the parentage of your show birds, you cannot be sure of parentage in a mixed aviary.

Angry.........
There's no way of telling how long the sick one was in contact with the others, and if the illness was contracted by any others. HOWEVER, petshops always put their new guys in with existing birds the moment they get them...........well, most petshops I know anyway. Why dont we all make an effort to address the fact that petshops either dont know about or dont have spare cages for QUARANTINE ? and of course some dont care either to change their practices when bringing new "stock " in. We can all make a difference. Print up some quarantine info aimed at both pet shop staff/management and also for those buying a budgie. Whats it going to cost us ?? Some time and effort and some photocopy money. Maybe approach a well known printer and ask that they donate your printed sheets with acknowledgement to them also ? Make it two articles per A4 page to save costs, cut the sheets in half and then either keep them in your car or handbag and distribute to every petshop we either go in or go to or go past. Be proactive......make changes. I have tackled many a petshop on their caging, sick birds, and feeding methods. Speak out and dont be afraid of consequences. Be loud so customers in the shop also hear what is being said. Petshop staff and management will tow a line if they think their work practices are likely to be loudly proclaimed to their prospective customers. Make the petshops aware that the info being given and the watch being taken on their stores is based on a wordwide budgerigar welfare group ( no need to name names ) and that you will be back. .......make being angry work for you.

Definitely ......good job LBB- Infertile Laying
Oh I feel so mean! What do you reckon, take all out at once, or some today, some tomorrow? No do it all at once and change her cage around at the same time....birds do not operate off the same sets of feelings we have so the guilt we feel will not translate onto the bird. People often get second budgies because they say their bird looks depressed....but depression is not a feeling budgies have but they do look depressed when sick. So, just bite the bullet and make the changes. better today than the same time she gets moved for birdiesitting while you are away. DIVERSION therapy works, change the cage around, give her some food she likes to distract her, and try not to feel guilty about it. Like they say about family with drug addicts......family can ENABLE the behaviour. Feeling sorry for her means she has sat too long on useless eggs already. Good luck- Omelette's Babies
