  1. Then do not put any budgies that are underaged ( under 12 months ) in any cage that has nests or nestboxes in it. If you want to breed, buy or get older breeding aged budgies and only breed with them until the others are over the age of 12 months.
  2. Both those budgies are too young for breeding. If you intend to breed they need to be mature....over 12 months.

If you are joondalup based the closest club to you is the Rare Budgie club that meets first sunday of every month in Girrawheen. It is a small club. Next closest would be the Metropolitan Budgerigar club that meets approx every third saturday in Bassendean, the Southwest budgie club meets in mandurah approx every third sunday. If you would like to go along for a look to any of these let me know and I will help with info and introductions.
  4. How does it look now ?
  5. Oh my, that poor bird in that picture! Thankfully it looks nothing like that but they are just sufficiently different from my other females to make me wonder. Thanks There is always an extreme version, some affected birds do not look like that either but somewhere in between.
  6. Canary seed or canary mix ? There is a difference. There is actually a seed called canary, but there is also canary mix. Finch mix is a perfectly fine blend for budgies...they eat it all.
  7. Not everyone who has this kind of experience is ON at the time you may need help. When you posted this maybe noone who handraises was on and your topic slips down. I understand your frustration but sarcasm is no way to get help either The lamp idea for incubating eggs wont help as eggs need to be turned and under a warm mother. Looks like your budgie mum doesnt want to continue and maybe thats why she threw the eggs out. If a chick hatches too soon or is out of the egg too soon they will die. What does the chick look like that "hatched" ? Is its belly off colour ? More info will help us to help you.

Very nice. :rip: Are you aware that proper quarantine means AWAY from all other birds........not the same airspace ? Do you have another place to quarantine your birds ?
  20. Shaggy had a better life with you than anyone else I could imagine......I am sorry you lost him. I know you would be in a very low place in your heart over the loss :rip:

  22. Using the search function on this BBC forum will unearth you many previous topics discussed here on aloe vera from BBC members who have used it.
  23. I am sorry you lost your chick One comment based on what you said about the eggs. Budgies warm them in and under them and out again all in sequence. Often an egg that seems pushed aside isnt, its just out for awhile while others are warmed. You often see a mother ...when you look in the nestbox, reach out for these eggs that are further away and she pulls them in under her. By us interfering we change the order of the eggs being warmed. There is a sequence that shouldnt be interfered with. I do understand also, its hard to guage what to do with a hen that seems to not be with it as far as automatic mothering skills, so you are just doing the best you can. For the future, breeding with multiple pairings helps at times like this as we can then have more choices as to fosters for eggs or babies. :rip: PS it is also possible from your first description in this topic that the mother may have pierced the egg with her claw and caused an ealry hatching or the chick just hatched too early ....in which case the chick would most often die due to an early hatching.
  24. There is a condition called hypertrophy of the cere that causes a projected build up of the keratin that makes up the cere. Read this http://www3.sympatico.ca/davehansen/obstruct.html
