  1. agree with Hilly.......white or whitish ceres female, purple ones male
  2. My aviaries have mixed sexes with no issues.
  3. Considering cage fronts can be bought between $9 and $12 depending on size ....I figure its not worth the hassle
  4. sounds more like french moult to me
  5. hardest thing is the range of colours in the photos you posted.....how about you take a good look at what you see and determine if there is a decent amount of white ...then its a female and if its bright pinky purple its a boy. I dont go by the nostrils shape and size theory
  6. You take really nice photos

Hi and welcome .....we have tried real hard to get a lot of info on the forum and in our FAQ section...anything you cant find do a seach through topics and if you still cant find an answer just start a new topic
  8. Looks like the beginnings of scalyface....mostly we use spot on ivermectin but since heres sint severe os advanced you can rub a little oil on that and you should be fine
  9. width 60cm height 40 cm depth 40 cm is a good breeding cage size

Very nice colourful flock you have there
  11. Hi Figgs and welcome PS about registering and the email thing....we have to block a few of the email groups like hotmail and such becuase a lot of them allow spam to come through unfortunately
  12. HI Elle.....you mentioned one of your budgies is an adult but what age is the other one ? Also nothing has been mentioned about them being in breeding condition and are they moulting ? What cere colours at the moment ?
  13. BOTH wings should be clipped. clipping just one wing is an old fashioned school of thought that has now been superceded by better knowledge and budgie observations PS cute spangle
  14. If you think you are able and up to it I would suggest removing them all and handfeeding the lot. She's not going to get any better based on her current behaviour and due to the move she may well be thinking of getting rid of her chicks from the nest and starting again. If Dad was a better father and not a deadbeat Dad then I would suggest he finish raisiing them but that wont happen. I dont believe in putting stuff all over the babies...half the time that just allows stuff to get stuck to them from the nestbox, and anything fumey isnt good either. As far as vinegar goes the chicks skin is already irritated and I wouldnt add to their misery by putting anything slightly acidic on them . If budgies can eat chillies with no ill effects I daresay anything slightly vinegar wouldnt deter them either. The fact she flung a chick sideways also makes me believe she will start attacking the chicks to remove them from the box pretty soo. So like I said if you can and are able to raise them pull them all out and do it now. Remove Mums nestbox so she doesnt lay again..........she may be doing this too because shes fed up and needs a good long rest

Hi and welcome Mark. Sounds like you know what you are doing and have focus with regards to your birds. I wish you well. Photos would be nice when you can
  16. more often than not breeding cages in an aviary with constant free flying visitors to the front of the breeding cages causes more distractions to the breeding birds and less satisfactory results ..the ones in the breeding cages are likely to pace back and forth and want to be out with the others
  17. Hens can talk...there are a few on you tube ( ignore the recessive pied they say is a hen but is a cock ) ........the fact that everyone says hens cant talk is why noone usually bothers to try and encourage them too
  18. the bird in the middle is DEFINITELY an albino........note the differing shade of eye colour compared to each of the birds next to her. AND she can also be anything hidden under that white albino coat including a spangle of df spangle
  19. you take the nestbox out becuase they will try and breed because its there....and if not in full breeding condition the attempt went go wrong Breeding condition means everything is right with them....and thats food supply, health, time of year and not moulting etc...... they have to go through this and no you cant really shortcut it in any way
  20. Not really Karyn but any decent handman worth his salt can do this for you if you provide enough info and the right materials
  21. your albino has to be a hen as its a sex linked gene and passed father to daughter since Mum isnt albino. Makes dad split albino other chick looks female as well
  22. Hi Flip calcivet as well as triple c will be fine. Triple C is very good too
