  1. Here's some photos I took of your Cec Gearing hen when I got her GB
  2. To All Members.............posts saying "I PMed YOU" are not necessary and will be deleted. Anyone who logs in WILL get their pms as they pop up.........no need to make a post of saying you PMed someone ........reason for this post .........there has been a run on posts saying "I PMed YOU"
  3. Recessive pied males have pinky purple ceres. If a female and young there will be white on its cere.......mostly white. As a male recessive ages its cere stays pink.....will never turn blue. A female recessive at moulting age has the cere turn brownish as with all breeding age females.
  4. DF dom pieds only come from parents that are BOTH dom pieds. You can sometimes get a bird that looks DF dom pied but may be a badly marked SF dom pied or even sometimes a recessive pied that looks DF dom pied.

Good on you buddy I look forward to your photos. Sounds like you had some fun and wins amongst the anxiety of waiting your turn. Been there done that with that system where you take turns......can make the old heart thump a little in anticipation.
  6. This has not been my experience at all. One icecube in a drinker with the balance water creates just the right kind of cool water for birds. Dave McMinn was over here once and on a really hot day and was putting the icecubes in my drinkers for me and I am certain there was no ill effects. Quite the reverse...the birds drank more often, rather than rarely drinking warm water. No deaths, no tummy aches, no sickness. Some ready made shade sails may be suitable for your purposes...do a measure up and see whats available at bunnings or similar. Airflow gap is suggested minimum 6 inches to 12 inches ( 150 to 300 mm )
  7. this is my lacewing baby ...the one that was plucked... yes and you can see laceing and tail feathers cin im asuming ?? well my lacewing chick is not got a cingal sighn of cinnamon no spots no feather no lace what so ever but mabe their is hope yet as its patches are same of your and records got years of family history right back so... must be but looks like an average lute to me On my chick I see cinnamon in the tail feathers and she has cinnamon spots. I have had a white lacewing hen once that was sold to me as a albino and after her first moult suddenly showed the cinnamon of a lacewing.
  8. this is my lacewing baby ...the one that was plucked...
  9. The old style water coolers that many people throw away for almost nothing are GREAT and they cool down the room ( breeding room, birdroom ) ...........and Rob Dunstan used to just set his up outside the flight pointing in and the birds used to flock to the front of it to keep cool. On really hot days I also put icecubes in the drinkers.
  10. self filling device can consist of a garden hose in the back and dripping at exactly the right rate........Ken has this down to a fine art
  11. Dave Ganzer breeds greywings but doesnt use dilutes so I guess greywing has to be it.
  12. These chickies are beautiful GB well paired I was mistaken Renee....that YF was a Cec Gearing hen I gave GB
  13. Maybe a video clip would catch it better
  14. I am well aware that you CAN get Double Factor pieds, but it means pairing one SF with another SF, or a SF with a DF. If you look at the pics of the parents he has posted, the cock on the left is not a pied, therefore pairing a DF dom pied with any bird that is not a dom pied will only result in SF pieds. In actual fact when I go back and think about it, judging by the offspring that have resulted, the DF hen is no a DF hen at all, but rather a SF. If she was a DF, then all the young would be SF dom pieds. So taking that into consideration, breeding a YF2 Sky Cobalt Greywing Cock that is split opaline to a poorly marked SF Dom Pied hen that is split blue and is split greywing (maybe dilute) will result in the offspring you have. I agree with Dave
  15. I agree with Dave.
  16. Water filled air coolers are great for any birdrooms. Others have used them up to the aviaries and the birds flock around them. My new flights will need shade sails over top I expect almost as soon as the birds go in them in a few days.
  17. Its not $20 Shannon....its nearly 20 pounds.....that is $36
  18. Doesnt look dilute to me either as I have a dilute dommie pied hen and she is much paler. Also apparently Dave Ganzer doesnt use dilutes. My dilute dommie pied hen BEANBAG
  19. Email them and suggest it will sell better with a preview.
  20. I have an excuse. I was at my dads funeral. No preview of this video ????
  21. Splat has beautiful birds JB
  22. You will pay at least ten dollars more in most cases for a petshop bird. You will get lied to about its age. You will get lied to about its sex. You will never know its parentage or if it was mass bred sibling to sibling parentage for the market and not bred for health and vitality. You will buy a bird that has been put in with others with no shop quarantine...so may be incubating a disease already. A breeder will give you a guarantee of health. Knowledge of the birds parentage. Most often accurate sexing and age. Some direction as to diet and ongoing feeding regime. Most often backup support and phone number for questions after purchase.
  23. Two eldest greywings ( 2 different nests ) are now in the kindie cage. Two youngest greywings are in the bottom of their breeder cage in a mouse hutch.
  24. Losses of birds...YES. Lost two at home but ones I knew had issues and would not make it. One I took with me.....died while I was in Geraldton. Ken had earlier omitted to change water in one cage and that bird got sick from contaminated sludge in its water..............so I took it with me to treat it and give it extra care. I am taking a me day today....and leadlight work will have to wait until tomorrow....but I am doing things on the new flights.
  25. Yeah they will fit....best way to travel is to huddle together....less chance of damage, and they are quieter that way. You could travel them to melbourne in a normal cage and transfer them to the box in your car just before air travel I am getting there Feeling flat and feeling tired after all this....a little depressed....Kens dad and mine all in such a short space of time Got back from Geraldton late afternoon yesterday.
