What Are We ?
Well, ages ago when I was trying to breed greywings and found it hard to find a greywing hen, I was told to use a dilute with a greywing cock as I would get greywings that way. The hen I used was a spangle dilute and possibly opaline. What I got from breeding them together was greywing chicks and greywing spangles. The topic http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=26390&view=findpost&p=352045&hl=greywings&fromsearch=1 showing grandparents ..... BUT these chicks are the result of breeding one of those greywing spangle cocks with a greywing hen, so what you see here is an opaline greywing spangle and a greywing spangle. Opaline has popped up as it seems the spangle greywing cock is split for opaline. No Yellowface involved and no mauves.....and I dont breed clearwings. Interestingly the quill of the spangle tail on these two is grey like you would expect with a greywing and not clear or neutral like you would expect with a spangle. Anyone get close ??

Sad Day
I so know how you feel....my best hen Omelette is in a plant pot with an Angel Peach tree on top of her. Remember anything we do to try and save the birds is all positive stuff and you cant blame yourself when it doesnt work out. I know the depth of feeling you would have had for him as I did for Omelette. Biggest hugs XXX

Is Cock Grey?
Cock is grey.........hen appears violet but pale so does she have cinnamon markings ? Chicks opaline like the mother so Dad must be split opaline also.

Are Purple Ringers Showable
A cock can be bred older.....they are still breedable at around 7 yrs plus, but most show breeders dont as by the time they get that old the style of the budgie we are showing has changed and the older cockbird wouldnt be improving your show birds all that much unless he is a real cracker Also it would be harder on an old cockbird to keep up with the demands of hen and chicks the older they get. PS as far as showing a purple ringer goes......here in W.A. a novice or beginner may show bought birds for the first 12 months of showing. It gives a newbie a way of getting interested in showing, getting an eye for selecting the right birds, giving the newbie a direction and enthusiasm and allowing them the first 12 months to breed their own bird for showing.

Are Purple Ringers Showable
Noone should sell a 6 yr old hen on the possibility she can be bred with...........she should be FREE and not sold to breed with....that part made plain and clear Next time you take money to buy birds, pay more attention to age of any hens you buy. I hope she was free and you didnt pay for her ??

How often are you checking as it takes three days to lay two eggs. Have you tried separating her so she stops her egglaying cycle ?

Your Permission To Copy Your Bird Pics
I agree Awhile back a previous forum member not only took my photos for use on her website but also gave permission for them to be used on another website as if they were her own. I was not impressed. However, this is different.........so use any of mine for your painting that you like Cheers kaz

Corn On The Cob
Raw...no need to cook as the vitamins are more useful when the vegies are raw. Serve whole or serve corn kernels. You can buy frozen corn and defrost too.

Swapping Aviaries?
I said cement slabs, not a slab.......cement slabs are often given away. They measure two foot by two foot ( 60cms by 60cms )
-
Swapping Aviaries?
IF ? Dont give them the opportunity.......make sure whatever you use stops mice getting in. You will find cement slabs get given away fairly regularly. There's also flat tin you can get from signwriters...............old used signs, and mousemesh you buy by the metre. If it means leaving the birds where they are for awhile to you get it right then thats what you will have to do. If you take shortcuts now its a whole lot more troublesome to fix it later or to take the time later. PS nice aviary.......sizewise....how much more space are you getting if any ? Its really only two spaces around 6 foot by 6 foot........are you keeping any of your existing aviaries too ?
