Avigrain Budgie Blue Seed Mix
Funny thing about canary seed Peter. I was told yonks ago that the breeders especially need it in the mix. I use Golden Cob Premium mix right now................breeders and birds in the flight leave the canary seed every time. I am contemplating changing to a mix that has less canary seed in it My birds also get grey sunflower. I serve it in seperate dishes...doesnt last long

Hen Stopped Incubating Eggs
In most cases eggs stone cold the whole night long would be dead in shell babies. In saying this I had a whole clutch once that were icy cold from a whole night no0t being incubated but fostered them anyway in the hope. Two out of the six hatched.

What Happens To Budgies In Pet Shops If They Are Not Sold?
Maybe there is a glut over your way Macka. What do those petshops sell the birds for where you are. Over here they will pay $10-15 and they mark them up to around $30-35. We can sell birds from home in the paper for $20 or more depending. I wouldnt take all and sundry out the back of my place to see the birds. Any for sale ones will be seen at the door or around the side of the house where they dont see our setup. You have to maintain some form of security as we here in W.A. have had our share of budgie thieves.

Babies Coming Out Of Nests
I will check him Macka, but from what I recall he was turning this way and that as I tried to get him to keep still for a photo. I dont think its his normal toe postion. Maybe yes, maybe no with taping it up. I dont think this bird has a toe problem.

Need To Bake Eucalyptus Branches?
Thanks Shauna, the reason I ask about the bleach in relation to psittacosis and PBFD is we had psittacosis once with my husbands parrots and now we have PBFD in his parrots. Bleach can work and branches arent non porous at all. I was remembering that our avian vet Tim Oldfield said NOTHING would kill the psittacosis in the aviary at the time nor or PBFD at all. All being porous surfaces in the aviary. Solution re the PBFD in my husbands aviary right now after all remaining birds have been tested and cleared or tested and euthenased, is pull down the aviary and remove top foot or two of soil from that area. ( Soil floor aviary ).

Need To Bake Eucalyptus Branches?
Good advice Shauna One question............I was always under the impression that nothing, especially bleach will kill psittacosis or PBFD. Am I wrong ?

Avigrain Budgie Blue Seed Mix
I'd rather add oats at times of year or when it suits me or the birds, not have it in the mix....just my personal opinion.

Avigrain Budgie Blue Seed Mix
It seems to have canary seed and millets also oats. Doesnt look a lot different than an average budgie seed mix. You dont really need oats in the mix except for winter feeding. There would be better mixes than that one I would think.

Will This Have A Happy Ending?
Hatching on the cage floor would be fine if..... Theres only the one pair in the cage There is bedding under her and no bare grate Suggest subtly building up nesting material around her but only once she has completed her clutch. Will the chicks be warm enough > Yes...as its the mothers job to keep them warm Suggest there is no draughts....your job Should you move them > NO !! Definitely not.......once hatching begins do not disturb the mother or babies or fear her abandoning due to her feeling her nest is more vulnerable. Your job now is to assist her unusual method of nesting but not interfere so that she freaks out, feels unsafe or abandons. Your job is to be watchful

What Is This?
I do not agree with the white nostrils theory...nostrils only info can be deceiving. Basically any white on a budgies cere is female...thats the easiest way to look at it.

What Is This?

Greywings
I have a strong feeling this greywing mother wants another clutch. Two babies still in the nestbox. As they are in a bank of three horizontal cages I wish to disassemble ( and they are the last inhabitants ) AND it would be her third clutch, it wont be happening. What to do. Move them all to another cage with babies on the floor of the cage for dad to feed them, maybe Mum in a rest cage ? Decisions, decisions. The youngest greywing chick is going to be the better chick based on "feather" from what I can see. youngest older chick
