  1. I moved here to this house with 17 budgies....we now have over 300. Its infectious and you are hooked
  2. Heavy marked recessive pied
  3. Fingers crossed its just going to be the best chick you have bred so far
  4. Turning into a little saga..I look forward to the updates
  5. well thats encouraging as a lot of mine do this, but in the junior flights
  6. I dont have any who prefer the floor unless its one of the gimps that have another issue....some of them get left to live their lives here and others are "rehomed" . I do have birds that fly into me when I am in the flights, so I would guess thats die to feather ( or just bad flyers ? ) and lately with the hot weather a lot of them stay at floor level. I did have some from the same family that seemed unable to fly even though they had their full flight feathers.........I culled that family.
  7. why do you say this is not avisable ren if you have two very well marked good sized birds with good carictoristics and you pair them up and get df doms mabe they not showable but when put with a normal all chicks will be dom so this getting you ahead in your dom pied breeding most times the markings come out perfict as they carry the perfict marked gene Agree with GB. Not everyone breeds for show and you must remember that when advising about breeding.
  8. He is a sf dom pied from what I can see.
  9. She seems to be a feather duster and as with others, time will tell for sure.
  10. also vinegar is used as a blood vessel shrinkage method to get tight legrings onto a baby budgie so maybe could be used as a bath to free the gunk and reduce swelling before drastic measures are taken ? In saying this....................by the time we notice a bird with swollen leg and legring issues its often far too late and ring removal seems to be the only option.
  11. I worked for a vet once whose philosophy was " you don't give up on an animal until it has given up on itself " This way of thinking and actions showed me her saving many a creature that others would not have attempted to save. Miracle vet, she was and very revolutionary in her time. I am saddened to hear the easiest thing is to put them to sleep when others woulod happily step forward to home them or do the aftercare. A " middle man" is needed here...........somewhere for the aftercare when decent vet has done what he can to save them, crippled or not.
  12. Feather cysts can be triggered by an injury, or even by mites. In these cases with treatment of various kinds they eventually go away. If a bird or its family were prone to multiple cysts then I wouldnt breed with it. A "one off" due to injury or triggered by mites would not stop me using it for breeding. You cannot fear cysts and have a blanket ruling. You need to have all the facts and know what started the problem or if its a hereditary thing. I once had a nice cock who produced a whole clutch of babies with feather cysts ( showing as infected flight featrher and tail feather shafts at age 14 to 20 days of age ) and the chicks had to be eithenased. He was never bred with again. I know it was him, as the hen had never passed this problem on in any of her previous clutches.
  13. it was that massive set of tables over by the windows and about three full tables long groaning under the weight of products
  14. MBC products table is worth waiting for at each meeting. You will save a lot of money buying from MBC than any pet related store.
  15. Reorganising the photos will stuff up any ones you have posted on BBC. Any topics with stuffed up photo links we usually delete.

  17. Hi

**KAZ** replied to Houman's topic in New to BBC
Welcome We have a breeders list in the wanted to buy section I think .....if it helps
  18. Not next door to the others at all
  19. Well, as I said....you cannot put the two new ones straight in with the others.
  20. New birds have to be kept seperate from existing birds in another cage in another room at least 5 metres away in seperate airspace for a minmum of 30 days quarantine. So do you have any others or are these your first budgies ?
  21. More depth than 18 inches would have been great. All depends on how you set up the cage. Post some pictures and ask for suggestions.
  22. I was beginning to think feather cyst or similar as it has the appearance of one. Bugger of a place for her to be affected....poor hen Hope she makes a full recovery.
  23. How did you dose them ? The magpie would have be carrying red mites maybe,,,,,,,treatable with A.I.L.
  24. More common for hens to get swollen legs and need ring removal. Did you replace with split rings so you can maintain records.
  25. Can sometimes be due to scalyface affected scale growing on the legs .
