  1. I think he will be fine he doesnt look sick
  2. I actually said it shouldnt be the feathers that make his butt get all clagged up.....if it were so then every bird I own would have a poopy bum.
  3. updated news .......http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/numurkah-caravan-park-now-an-island-home-as-floods-ravage-town/story-fn7x8me2-1226289942512 and Splats latest chat last night The creek has swollen so much unbelievable, I think it has reached 2.4 mt now or more. The ses and town folk have been busy sandbagging and putting up huge barriers, town meeting in the morning at 9.30 the water is not far of the bottom of the bridge which is not good because we will be cut off from the street if that happens. The shire is very organised though, the barriers they are using have been made since 93 floods I think, Greg reckons he has never seen them, the levy bank near us will probably have the gate constructed tomorrow. Greg and I have been busy putting everything up. Clear wing has offered to come and pick up birds and take to his place if needed. and has offered us a bed also. GB has too lol but sweetie you are to far away. But any way Greg's dad reckons we should be fine , in fact he wants to bring his chooks around and fence off the back yard because he reckons he will go under and he is in safer ground that us lol. I just laughed when Greg told me. But the only way we will flood is if eh levy banks give as the have only had one trial before 93 and the the water was at the top. and the other way is if the water goes over top, but someone told me today the they did make them a bit higher a couple of years back , so hopefully we will be safe. Not like a few houses that have gone under and flooded. I am going to take some pics tomorrow but I have to admit I am a bit scared to venture out plus the snakes are coming out in their droves, washed out of their homes and it is breeding season so they will be nasty. they have been seen sitting on top of teh levy banks today. scary. any way that is my rant for today.
  4. Good on you for removing the nestbox Females who are young or older ones not in breeding condition will have ceres with both white and blue....its normal. Yes because it has white around the nostrils Violetpiedmad....forget what you have heard about white nostrils...its a commonly stated thing but the fact is its an overall white not a nostrils thing.
  5. I think your Vinnie is a gorgeous looking boy and he will work out well. The thing about show budgies is they are handled more in the nest and they are quieter and less flighty than pet types. I think he will tame pretty well. Poop on the butt down to feathering ? NO ....they should be able to shed poops without it clagging up his butt. The meds will either be a sulpha meds or a coccidiosis medication and should get him over any nervous state he may be in due to the move. Play a radio near him...bright and cheerful and medium loudish......he is used to flock noise and there isnt any. The radio will help
  6. male in the middle of the top photo and all the rest are females PS why do you have a nestbox on the cage ??? I would remove it immediately if I was you They are far too young to have a nestbox.......and force breed them.
  7. they do............ This is not what you said before research and photos ? some of the people who have answered including myself have first hand experience with french moult.
  8. Do it and do it quickly like ripping off a bandaid...........we breeders do it all the time and they dont seem to notice much....if you fuss and try one at a time you will cause more stress than grabbing a handfull and pulling quickly. I am :D
  9. It seems they have control issues and more so since you live in a property they own now

Is this one of the new budgies ? and if so was his foot like that before and you have only just noticed it ? and if you can check your posts before posting them for spelling and accuracy we wont have to try and guess what you are trying to say.....its pretty difficult to work out what going on with you and your birds sometimes because of your wording
  11. This is NORMAL and not late at all
  12. Very cute !!!
  13. Mirrors are always a bad idea and it isnt just about bonding.......mirrors affect their mental state and are on old wives tale about adding them to a budgies cage. The poop thing can be stress due to being caught up early and taken to the bird thing where you bought him, then caught and taken to your home etc. Important you clean him up even pull away a few feathers around his butt and then observe the dropping. Good to hear you have ongoing support from the breeder too even if he did get the age wrong
  14. its not french moult and budgies DO moult more than one flight feather at a time..................I have many budgies that can attest to that.
  15. I also find this a weird random statement................forcing a budgie to bond ??? What do we breeders do every time we select pairs for breeding ?? you are a breeder and of more than just budgies. Think about what you just said. Louise, proceed with your taming and training......I believe you can do it
  16. Flood east of Australia are affecting some of our forum members. Splat has water lapping nearby and has worries about the safety of her birds and aviaries. Her last reports ..... ‎"At Nathalia the current flood level is about 1.96 metres which was around lunchtime today, or 1pm, and is continuing to rise slowly. We expect it to reach about 2.4 metres late tomorrow and peak around 3.2 or 3.35 metres on Thursday, so a lot of effort is going into Nathalia sandbagging and preparing the leveee for the water to come later this week." anyone else being affected by the flood waters ?

CERE not crea. Breeding not breading. You should give them time to settle in and get used to everything new not put them straight down to breed. What do you mean by ?
  19. I totally agree with Robyn
  20. I bet you wish you hadnt "wondered" and typed this answer out BEFORE checking the facts first LOL :D
  21. He isnt three months.......the cere colour is far too blue for him to be three months. The breeder may have him confused with another bird. Cere colour that fully blue would come in at 6 months, and he has no bars left on the cap of his head. So DEFINITELY not 3 months. Taming him will depend on your techniques and time taken with him and the trust level you both establish...bird to human friend. Show budgies are handled a lot anyway from hatching and they are generally less flighty and less excitable than a pet type budgie. Please remove the mirrors or he will bond to his friend in the mirror and not you. This baby boy budgie is 3-4 months and you can see his cere colour is still pinky purple ( not blue ) and he is just breaking cap ( means getting his clear head cap feathers ). Your boy has 2-3 months on this fellow ( older ) .......Vinnie has both broken his cap and has a full blue cere making him for sure around 6 months.
  22. He's lovely. Vinnie is a great name too. He looks healthy. He's older than 3 months.....he has to be at least 6 months maybe more. Please remove all mirrors...they do budgies heads in and give them something to protect and "feed".....and the perch is rather thick too.....go for a diameter of between 12 mm and 16 mm for perches, plus the variation of diameters of tree branches too.
  23. Not a lutino....it has black eyes so its most likely a double factor spangle BOY
