Today's The Day!
There are no sandpaper trees in the wild. There is never a need to have sandpaper in a birds cage. Research how sandpaper is made too and you will see why it isnt a good thing for budgies to be chewing or ingesting. Marketing these things relies on peoples paranoia about budgies claws getting too long. Not necessary. Sandpaper perches has been known to cause foot injuries such as bumblefoot................... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumblefoot_(infection) put sandpaper perches and sandpaper sheets on your list of things not needed for budgies.............things harmful to budgies.

New Rings For 2011
Some people use their blue rings up until the end of the year. Others go straight onto the purple rings. Your choice :rip:

Yippy I Think They Are Working On My
Really good news

First Double Yolker
NO. They dont hatch mostly because the growing chicks run out of space and nutrients in the egg.
-
First Double Yolker
So is this a ( I can't think of the right word....) like history/parent gene passed through to relatives, that we are dealing with? I dont know for sure. Could be a coincidence
-
First Double Yolker
I have a double yolker in a nest too, to a first time Mum. Candled it today and its fertile and developing then I remembered that her mother also had double yolkers in the odd nest or two before

My New Breeding Season
Another baby has fledged and found the perch fairly quickly more babies in nests and the aviary birds enjoying some fresh seeding grasses ( roots and all )

Sex Determination
Someone once told me and said on this forum that poorer feed means more hens. My reply was I was getting nothing but hens in nests and my birds eat better than we do !!! FACT we had better add some of this stuff into the OLD WIVES TALES category

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
I am going to plant her in a very large plantpot and put a fruit tree or something similar in the pot. If anyone has any ideas on what kind of plant or fruit tree .....happy to take suggestions. Thankyou for the well wishes and thoughts. She was very special and will be missed greatly.

Omelette.....my Foundation Hen
Omelette passed away today. She had tried to continue laying eggs albeit in a sporadic timeframe after being in a resting cage for 5-6 days. With no warning signs, she laid an internal egg and then haemorrhaged and bled out. She died in my hands with no time to get to the vet R.I.P Omelette. Best budgie I ever had

Yellow Belly?
Which one of your aviaries got wet ? Have you started them on coccivet ?
-
Injured Hen
I agree :emoticon112: I'm happy for both of you that your hens are better! And especially that Kaz did not put hers down when she might have done. (Now if only there was an emoticon for "Whew! That was close!") kaz would only do that if bird was in pain this hen was not in pain their for as it was eatting drinking pooing fine she would have persisted in finding a solution unless bird deteriorated or was in pain im sure of that however their is a limit of time a bird can be in this state before it needs to be put down True............my hen looked perfectly happy sitting there, and thats why I didnt euthanase, besides the fact she was a hen I was extrememly fond of. The vet I used to work for always said to me you dont give up on an animal until it has given up on itself........... So I looked for other answers.

Making A Birdie Swing
I have put a few in my breeder cages to keep the cocks busy while the hens incubate, and of course a few in the kindie cage too.
