  2. I bought Lots 38 and 111 ( both pictured )
  3. Hi Valerie. If the eggs are fertile and she had begun to incubate them, then the time she has been off them now will have let them go cold. That means the chicks are more than likely now dead in shell.
  4. :rip: I am off to Melbourne for the Western Suburbs auction in October so I needed to save some pennies for that Thinking like that, I let a few slip by that I would not normally.
  5. You also need to be able to block it off for winter :rip:
  6. I think your natural instincts about food for Jake will be fine Splat. You seem to know what you are doing already :rip:

Jeff Lloyd ( also BBC member ) did a good job at being the auctioneer EXCEPT partway through auctioning a dom pied of Jan McMahon's that I was bidding for and then Jeff decided to bid for her too and beat me :rip:
  8. You arent meant to add extra calcium to a dog or pups diet unless by vet prescription. Vitamins are in meat and vegies. Some vitamins arent good cooked. I also give my dogs egg flips..........raw egg in puppy milk with a spoon of cod liver oil....................twice a week. Our dogs also eat raw apple, raw corn on the cob, raw carrots. and I give them any of the clear budgie eggs..shell and all.
  9. We cook for our dogs and freeze it in tubs. We use 3 kilos of raw meat. ( we use kangaroo or a mix of beef and kangaroo ) ...some people use pet mince. to that 3 kilos of meat we use 1.5 kilos of large macaroni, and a kilo pack of frozen mixed vegies. We also add any extras from the fridge. Put it in a large pot of around ten litres and add lots of water. Cook till it reaches stew consistency, stirring as the macaroni may stick a little. This usually makes around 5-6 of the 2 litre icecream tubs and we freeze it. Costs us about $3 an icecream tub. One icecream tub lasts our dogs three days for three dogs. For one pup you are best putting serves in the ziplock bags and flatten it before freezing. If you flatten it out to freeze, it thaws quicker when you need it. You can wash out the ziplock bags and reuse them :rip:
  10. Western Suburbs Budgerigar Society Auction Saturday 16th October Laverton Community Centre Victoria Western Suburbs Auction Catalogue
  11. I think you will find that this rules has changed Clearwing. http://www.anbc.iinet.net.au/StandardAmendment1ANBC08.doc Trimming anywhere else and spots is allowed as far as most of us are aware.
  12. How close are the holes for the legs ? You have to have them closer together than you think. Post a picture.
  13. it doesnt have to show he is split blue because all of them will be split blue anyway.
  14. The sponges need to be the high density foam like makeup sponges are made from .....its firmer. http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/877648/85577...-latex_Puff.jpg
  15. There is nothing in the rules about not taking photos, so I will try.
  16. I only just noticed this on one of my baby spangle greywing babies..because the little fella got out of the kindie cage and was flying around the birdroom. I caught him by the window at the kitchen sink area and went to put him back but noticed lower abdomen on one side of the budgie has skyblue feathers as well as his green body colour feathers. Is it one of those baby feather situations ? or something else ?
  17. Squeak...........look up photos of birds for the nationals and you will see a HUGE difference between a bird whose spots have been pulled and one whose spots have been cut away. I like the look of a bird whose spots have been cut not pulled
  18. We all know this stuff ( this knowledge has been around for thirty years or more ) and also how it applies to humans .......like running to the docs every time someone has a sniffle etc. I would say though, it isnt about UNNECESSARILY dosing as much as it is about EXCESSIVE dosing. HUGE HUGE difference. Many of the more experienced breeders dont excessively dose birds at all opportunities as they know what you have said already and so many find the importance of a good immunity system being established in their birds a top priority.......they have to really as the birds hold a great deal of value to a show breeder.....both dollar value and value in each birds place in your breeding program. Many of the more experienced breeders have learnt to recognise the common and wider symptoms and illnesses and treat their birds based on day to day experience with their birds that quite frankly some vets dont have. We have medicine cabinets with all we need in case of emergencies. The vets rely on us relaying our observations when we take a bird in. Some vets are up to the task and other simply drop the ball. Too many times I have heard of vets who injected a bird with whatever for that bird to drop dead within 12 hours or less afterwards. What does that tell me ? I wont let a vet use a needle on my birds unless he is bloody sure it is necessary and not just guessing. I know how to treat my birds for a wide range of illnesses and situations, my vet recognises this and he knows if I bring a bird in, its important we get it right between us, by good communication by me to him and good listening and his education and knowledge back to me and the bird in return Good vets.........avian vets.........are hard to find. We all do the best we can within our range of expertise, within our budgetary limitations, and with having to rely on vets at times who may drop the ball occasionally too. When you find a good vet you stick to them. My vet unfortunately is only available part of the week and that part of the week he is only available mornings, and these appointments are always booked out. Sometimes you cannot get to see him for ten days or more. There really are no other choices.
  19. I do the same.......any bird with poopy bottom automatically gets a handful of bumfeathers reefed out Keeps the area clean against reinfecting as they preen.
  20. Does anyone want photos and prices from this auction tomorrow ?
  21. Cutting for spotting out is good as it only takes the excess spots and not the whole feather. Takes practice but and a lot of care making sure the birds head is still while you have sharp scissors near its face.
