  1. Too soon to be noticing a change in colour of the egg indicating fertile or not Put food in the nestbox for the hen.....millet sprays, pour seed in there if you have to...........make sure she can eat while she sits. Nothing messy, no containers. Lift her up and check her butt in case she is sick or eggbound.

    Welcome
  3. Sexing at the age they would have been when your Mum bought them should have been done by dna test..........costs around $30 each and a certificate is given. Sounds more like someone guessed. Best size aviary for a breeding pair of princesses would be 3m by 3m. LINK for DNA test http://www.genescience.com.au/ $21.90 per bird.
  4. Is she sure of their sexes ? The Male has Blue on his back and Tail the Female is Green with no Blue, he also sings How old are they ?18 months plus and what kind of space do they have ?The Avairy is 4ft x 4ft That is not how you sex a Princess parrot. At the age of 2 and a half a male will get whats called SPATULES on the end of a flight feather......like this Way too small for a Princess parrot and you have two in that space Its not different size-wise to putting a pair of budgies in a cage 12 inches by 12 inches. Females sometimes breed younger than 18 months ...some males take longer to mature. I think you need to be more sure of their sexes and you need a much larger space. For your Mum to expect breeding when sexes arent determined and the space they are in is cramped and not suitable for a pair of princesses is expecting way too much
  5. Chest feathers would be related to egglaying and nesting. Head feathers above the cere is moulting. She may not want to see the raising of chicks all the way through if she is moulting.
  6. Amy is right and the mother is also split for blue
  7. They would only moult if put down to breeding at the wrong time. A female may pull some of her feathers out to keep warmer contact with her eggs and babies. Perhaps if you post a photo we can determine which it is Moulting or pulling feathers
  8. The bottom beak is kept the size and shape its meant to be by the top beak being over it and moving against it. When the top beak hasnt grown as it should due to the food rotting thing then its inside the bottom beak and allows the bottom beak to continue to grow more than it should.
  9. Very unusual. I recall Gina mentioned once about chicks with no toenails. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....amp;hl=toenails Note the chick of yours is quite white.
  10. Is she sure of their sexes ? How old are they ? and what kind of space do they have ?
  11. Food caught in the top beak as a baby. Breeder didnt notice and didnt pick the food out. Food rots in top beak and stops growth. Meanwhile bottom beak continues to grow and grow out past top beak. It isnt a genetic issue and it can be bred. Need to trim the bottom beak about every two weeks its whole life.
  12. Very cute My Mum used to breed mini dachshunds and she showed them and one was the first HEARING DOG trained in W.A. to go live with deaf people as a service dog.
  13. Baby Princesses are growing fast this hen ( Velcro's other half we call BLUTACK ) is sitting on six eggs This is the nest of a yellow cock and green split yellow hen New babies today to "BABY"
  14. A very important piece of information may have been overlooked here. What killed the mother may have gone through the chicks..............an illness that the chicks are also carrying. A sick chick wont feed well either. You need a poop sample tested at the vets. What happened to the father ? What symptoms did the mother have ? Where were they before all this began to occur ? Aviary ? Cage ? Conditions ? Please give more information BUT PLEASE PLEASE get the baby's poop tested to at least eliminate the possibility of a disease or illness causing all this.
  15. Dont put anything inside the aviary. try this for an idea. Find one of those mosquito nets that are arranged on a hoop, attach to the ceiling and go over a bed http://upload.ecvv.com/upload/Product/2008...89111007074.jpg attach it outside your aviary door ( not budgie side ) and step through it to go in and same when you come out. When not in use throw it up on top of the aviary :hi:
  16. I am in Perth. I am a show breeder. But I also know many people who keep pet type budgies for their own enjoyment. I am sure I would know a few people who would be interested in taking your boy budgie. PM me with your locality and I will advise. Cheers kaz
  17. I am not attempting this./////// Why ? I think the light conditions for these photos is all over the place. New photos natural light would be good :hi:
  18. More photos Baby next to foster mother In nest another in nest more babies only one viable egg left in that nest...mother addled the others there's heaps more :hi:
  19. Am I seeing things no one else is? I think this cocks looks like a yellowface. Maybe it's just my monitor. Doesnt look yellowface to me.
  20. The feathering on the chick looks normal thus far..............you tend to notice french moult at the age just before leaving the nest or upon leaving the nest. One minute feathers..flights and tail, the next minute none.
  21. Then chick looks three weeks not four. NO. Feather plucking would show on head and wing butts. This chick hasnt been feather plucked.
