A Chick Has Me Confused
Clearflight Pieds (don't need to have the banding) you are thinking of a Dominant Pied This chick is a Clearflight Pied and it looks like an Olive to me personally. Both parents looks like they carry a dark factor which would explain the olive. I do see the blue on the back of the tail which can make one believe YF2 (and maybe it is?). Olive Clearfight Pied split to Recessive is my answer.

Do Budgies Ever Drink?
Don't forget budgies live in the desert they actually need very minimal water and can go days without it (not that our budgies should) but this helps explain it too along with being vulnerable. If you want to encourage water drinking fill it up fresh and clean and splash your fingers in it, Merlin is so tempted he runs to get a bath or drink some water.

Squeaking Sound
I wouldn't mess around and I would call an avian vet to be seen, birds can go down hill very quickly. Keep him covered on 3 sides, very warm at least 75F and call the vet

You won't get any violets unless you have a sky violet or a cobalt violet if they are straight sky and cobalt you will get 50% cobalt & 50% sky

Two New Birds, My Present To Myself
Here is information on breeding them, I put my source Crest × Crest matings will produce the highest proportion of Crested progeny plus some Crest-breds. However, I feel that there are no advantages to be gained in such pairings as almost invariably they will produce Crests of poor quality and little substance. Crest × Crest-bred matings will produce the next highest proportion Crested progeny plus Crest-breds and pure normals (with no Crest background). This is in fact, the type of pairing that is most recommended for the maintenance of size and type. It is important that when using this pairing, the Crest-bred should come from a pairing in which as least one parent was visually Crested. Crest × normal matings will produce a few Crests but mostly Crest-breds and normals. However, this is the sort of pairing one has to make now and then to improve the size and quality of the Crests and Crest-breds. The normal parent used, however, needs to be of outstanding size and type. Crest-bred × Crest-bred and Crest-bred × normal matings have been known to produce the occasional Crested bird. (This proves that the Crest gene is more than merely dominant in character). However, this is not a recommended mating for Crest production, unless one is breeding for the pet market, as a lot of "wastage" is produced. http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/specialist/crests/crests.html On Topic: they are beautiful birds, good luck with them.

Normals
Wow I think I actually understand that. So... one more example... I have a pair down that is a cobalt normal hen and a sky blue normal male.... in this case the normals can be male or female but any other mutation that shows up will be hens and given by the father??? Right?? Below is not a complete list but examples. Your sex-linked genes are: - so example if your cock is or is split and is paired to any hen bird (that is not those mutations) and you get these mutation then they will be hens. So example: you can have a Spangle Hen mated with a Spangle Cock split for Opaline and any opalines you get will be hens, in this pair you would have 100% 75% single factor spangles and 25% change of double factor spangles but if you have an opaline spangle it would be a hen. I hope that helps. opaline Lutino/Albino cinnamen TCB Lacewing (which is a combo of 2 sex-linked genes combined) Your Dominant or Recessive Genes (examples) Normal can be recessive to a Spangle bird but Normal is domanant to a Recessive Pied, so I can't say Normal is a dominant gene all the time only part of the time. Recessive Pied is not always recessive it can be co-dominant so example a recessive pied and a clearflighted pied combined will give you the Dark Eyed Clear. I hope that makes sense. Normal Recessive Pied Clearflight Pied Spangle Dark Eyed Clear Fallow

$$ Compare Your Vets
I find that our vet prices will vary from city to city also, it is actually sad to see such a huge difference.

A Special Christmas Message
I have read thie before it always brings tears to my eyes along with pride in my heart for our countriesmen. Thank you Neat for reminding us how special they are this time of year.

Normals
As splat said above it is this general rule of thumb any sex-linked gene will work the way splat explained it if the cock is or is split for a sex-linked and is paired to a normal hen then all the ones that visually express the gene are hens. Normal is a either dominant or recessive to other genes not sex-linked.
